Chapter 1: The Runaway Miracle

Chapter Text

Mirabel runs away from home. She failed to save the family's Miracle. Tears stream down her eyes

After running past the people and through the border, she kept running and running where her feet would take her.

After running through a forest of trees. She stops at a river. And cleans herself from all of the dust on her.

Mirabel is completely alone, But her own thoughts were her company.

Or so she thought...

A bubbling and haunting sound fills the air. It grew louder and louder. Mirabel stood up from the ground as it grew even louder. Then the sound stops.

There, stood across from her... A police box.

Standing across the river.

Mirabel took a step forward as the water beneath her soaked her shoes and her skirt, which she didn't mind.

Soon she makes her way up to land, and stood in front of the police box.

She looks at the box. It was so simple, but yet there was something about this box that look peculiar.

Then she reaches for the door handle, she hesitates for a second. But she opens the door, it was squeaky. But that didn't catch her attention.

It was bigger.

on the inside....

It was futuristic, and it looked unbelievably... Real. There was a top floor. And a weird looking table thing in the middle of the room. And there was a small set of stairs. And two other control panels from the sides.

"Amazing..."

"I know"

Mirabel gasps.

She turned around and stood in front of her, a man we'll dressed, wearing a coat and a bowtie. With a smile on his face.  His arms were crossed.

She looked around the whole interior taking in the scenery.

"You seem happy." Said the man.

"Of course I'm happy, this is breathtaking. Out of all the rooms I've seen in my home. This is far more amazing than any other room." She said.

"Well thank you." He said.

"You know, most people would be surprised or have some sort of negative reaction when entering in here, but you, sound like you are used to it." He said.

"Yeah I am, it's just where I'm from, our rooms are like this." She said.

"Really?"

"Mhm."

"Well then, I guess I'm the first that is not in the walls of your house." He said in a happy tone.

Mirabel giggled.

"Can I ask you something?" She said.

"Ask away." Said the man.

"Who are you, and what is this place?" She asked.

"Oh right, not that you mentioned it. Let's backtrack for a bit."

He straightens his bowtie.

"I'm the Doctor. And you are inside the TARDIS." He exclaims.

"TARDIS?"

"It's stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space."

"Oh."

"And you are?"

"Mirabel Madrigal."

"Wonderful name, you have."

"Thank you."

Mirabel put her hands on her hips.

"So if this is a time machine, are you from another planet?" She asked.

"Yeah"

"Okay..."

"So what do think?"

"What?"

"Other Planets you want check some out?" He asked.

"Wait, we can see other Planets?" She asked

"Yes."

"With this ship?"

"Absolutely."

"What are you saying?" Mirabel asks.

"I'm saying is... Well... Come with me."

"Where?"

"Wherever you like." He said. "I have a Tardis."

"So what do you say?"

"Will you come away with me?" He asks.

Mirabel paused for a moment. She turned around and think for a moment. The way he says sounded bonkers, but she believed him.

All her life she wanted to make her family proud, but to actually travel outside the Encanto. This could be a second chance, to see what's out there.

She looks back at him.

"You are so sure that I'm coming with you."

"Yeah, I am."

"Why?"

"Because, you. The girl with the green round glasses have endured enough suffering from your family's village, and I know how that feels." He says.

"Do you?" She asks.

"Yes, All these years living most of your life. Not knowing what's out there." He explains.

"So if I go with you, then does that mean I won't go back home?" Mirabel asks.

"Well, I can't say I'll keep you in here forever." He replied.

Mirabel bit her lip.

Did she wants this? To leave her family and run away with this man she hardly knows of. While it's comforting that she'll remains with him for a while. What about them?

She knows, deep down, that her padres, hermanitas and Antonio will miss her dearly, but…she had been selfless her entire life. She never considered to care about herself. She always put her family before her own needs and wants. Doesn’t she deserve to be selfish for once? To put herself first before others? She had given her life to her family, only to get very little in return.

And besides, it’s not like her family won’t be able to carry on without her. Their Gifts will be restored, Casita will be rebuilt. They will be able to continue on with their lives. Furthermore, they got on just fine without her help. Hopefully, this second chance will allow them to understand, by themselves, what needs to change. For Abuela especially, she needs to let go from her need to be in control of everything. Her family needs to establish open communication with one another so that everyone is kept in the loop, and that there aren’t any nasty surprises.

If they are able to do all that, which she is almost certain that they can, especially after everything that has happened, then there is no need for her to be around anymore.

Her family will largely miss her, but time heals all wounds, as the saying goes.

They’ll be fine.

"Can I ask another question?"

"Go on"

"Why me?"

"Why not?"

"No, I mean I just left my home after what happened so it's a fair question to ask you, why me?"

"I don't know, do I have to have a reason?"

"There must be a reason, People always have a reason."

"Do I look like people?"

"Yeah."

"Been knocking around on my own for a while, my choice, but i've started talking to myself all the time."

"You're lonely. I know how that feels." Mirabel interjects.

The Doctor was silent.

"Really, my Tio Bruno has been on his own for 10 years and he feels what you feel."

"A lot of people have that struggle. You're not alone."

He stops for a moment before continuing. She is a really interesting person. Then he snaps his fingers and the doors shut.

"So you're okay then, cause this place sometimes it can make people feel a bit you know."

"No no, I'm completely fine. I have no problem about it whatsoever. I just thought you were some madman with a box." She said.

"Mirabel Madrigal, there's something you better understand about me cause it's important. And one day your life may depend on it." He said.

She looked at him with anticipation.

"I am definitely a madman with a box."

"Alright then, I'm in." She said.

"Haha, alrighty then, come along." He said cheerfully.

Mirabel chuckled. This guy definitely has some spirit in him.

They both head to the console as the doctor start to flip switches and buttons. Mirabel looks around the valves and gizmos around the TARDIS. Soon she joins beside him and brace for impact.

"Goodbye old life, Hello everything."

The doctor flipped the switch and the TARDIS started. They both laughed together as the both of them started a new adventure to whatever takes them.

As for the exterior, the TARDIS begin to slowly disappear into thin air and to never been seen again.

To be continued...
