Work Text:

"What do you think about our relationship?" Dave suddenly asked, "it is neither a romantic relationship, nor a strictly platonic friendship."

Bambi huffed, crossing his hands. "I do not know, neither i wanna think about."

Dave looked at him.

"Bambi, i need things clear to know what to do. I need you to tell me what you want from this, otherwise i might not continue feeding something that doesnt mean anything at all."

Bambi frowned further, looking at the man. He didnt wanna lose whatever they had going on, they weren't exactly dating, neither just friends, something Bambi was comfortable in that he doesn't know the word of yet. It had started quite simple and naturally, thanks to how touch deprived they both were thanks to their living conditions.

Also Dave cannot get bitches, that's a fact.

"Let's start easy, what do you think about me? what do you like about me?"

Bambi was quiet for seconds, before looking away.

"I like you."

The brown haired man sighed, a stern expression washing over his face.

"Be more specific."

"Alright fine!" The farmer sat on his legs, still refusing to see him. "You first person that didnt hit me when first seeing me, you nice to me, very smart..."

This was process. Dave smiled. "Go on."

"You..." Bambi looked at him, taking a quick glance to his body. "Weak."

"..."

"Weak and skinny. Do you eat enough?"

"You're not— stop trying to make this go somewhere else that isnt related—"

"Dave, do you eat?"

The disabled man sighed, leaning his back fully to the couch.

"Its, kinda hard for me to gain weight." Bambi got closer to his torso, watching him intently. "Its not like i dont like eating, maybe the stuff i cook doesnt have enough calories, i dunno."

"Anyways, you like me enough for me to touch you, which as you said before, you never let anyone do. And, i like you too, even though you're a pain in the butt you have your moments, like you worrying about me and bothering to even visit me in the middle of nowhere."

"However—" They connected eyes, Dave's face going serious and he slowly continued on. "It is very clear that, while in good terms, you dont like Tristan enough to care about him. You might have your reasons, whatever, i just genuinely cannot see you being a good father thanks to your fragile temper. I've seen the worst of you Bambi, and i dont like it, enough for me to be sure i wont be tolerating any of that."

"... So, going with this, i think its better for us to continue what we currently have. Im up for this to go further in a way you're comfortable with, but unless you work on your temper and show me that you care about Tristan the same way that you care about me, its going to be a clear no from me."

"This is not me saying i don't love you, im just saying theres some stuff you gotta work on yourself, and clearly a 'relationship' is not going to help you with that."

"... Yea." Bambi replied to all that without thinking much, shaking his head, looking down as his face started to heat. "Yeah. I uh- i like what we have now... So..."

The hugs, the cuddles, the touching, the occasional kisses that Dave gave him on his face, the times where Bambi helped him get around even for the smallest of stuff, sometimes sharing a bed and nuzzling each other especially when it was cold. It was nice for the both to finally have foreign touch that wasnt familial, and maybe after this talk was over, they would be more comfortable indulging in those moments without worrying the other would take it in another way.

"Then it's settled, we're keeping this."

The farmer whined, feeling relieved when he felt a kiss on his forehead, telling him that the worst had already happened and that it was over. It felt quite fast too, which kinda made him regret not having this talk sooner, but it was done now, so he had not much to regret for anyways.

He would think about what Dave said about him later, he honestly had no intentions to change his attitude that formed thanks to how terrible other humans treated him, but who knows, maybe with time his mind would change on the matter.

"I wonder if theres a word for this type of relationship, we're definitely not the first ones to have this... Maybe after i get Tristan to bed we can search around."

"Sounds nice."

And with that, both got comfortable on the couch, both feeling as if this changed something for the better while to outsiders it didn't seem like it.

To the unknown, they were just very good friends. To them, something different and intimate.
