Work Text:
"Be my boyfriend."
"What?" Weather stared dumbly at Anasui. He had shown up in the ghost room out of nowhere with this out of pocket statement. Weather didn't know how to react. There surely was some context he was missing.
"Just for today, be my boyfriend." He repeated.
That didn't clear much up. Instead a lot of questions ran through Weather's mind. Where did this sudden request come from? Anasui was a very attractive man, attractive enough to sleep with most prisoners in their facility, so why had he come to Weather instead? It could be that he needed an excuse to turn down a particularly stubborn person, but that wouldn't make any sense as he had a quick temper and never minced his words. Any person whose advantages he rejected were always met with sharp insults or a new joint in their legs where there wasn't supposed to be one.
And then there was the biggest question of all: why did he come to Weather? Compared to Anasui, Weather was boring. Case in point, at the moment he was flicking through a television guide while lying inside a grand piano. Though he had frozen in motion while he was processing what was asked of him.
It was probably for the better that Emporio was god knows where, or else this would have been even more awkward. After half a minute of them staring at each other from across the room, Anasui sighed and approached the piano. "Right now you're the only person I can stand to be around and," He paused, looking away as if he were embarrassed, "I'm really touch starved. I just need someone to hold me."
It was unusual to say the least, to see the man that radiated self confidence on any normal day so small and vulnerable. Here he was with his bright pink shielding his face from any curious eyes. A strange sight indeed.
"Why do I need to be your boyfriend if you just want me to hold you?"
"Because it's gay."
"Okay." Despite saying that Weather had no clue how that made it gay. Or why you needed to be in a relationship just to cuddle. Most men would go into detail to prove how it wasn't gay, but Anasui had proven to him many times that his logic was rather flawed, so he choose to do like he often did, and just went along with it.
He scooted over to make more space for the pink-haired man. Anasui took the invitation and climbed into the piano, the instrument making slightly concerning noises under his feet. Then he took his place curled up to Weather. The younger's body felt warm and pleasant pressed up against his side. Anasui tangled their legs together and shifted around until he was happy lying half-way across Weather's torso with his fingers hooked onto dark fabric.
It crossed Weather's mind that Anasui had never been this close to him before. They always kept a small distance, except when speaking. Although those interactions were also rather scarce as well, Weather liked to limit his words and Anasui was content to spend his time in silence, since silence was a rare thing in prison. Deep inside he could feel that something was off. Not in a 'affected by a stand attack' kind of way, but something he didn't have an answer to yet.
Anasui twisted his neck so he could get a look at the television guide he was still holding. "Anything good coming up?"
That was even more suspicious. Anasui didn't make small talk. "I don't know. I never end up watching anything."
"Then what's the point? There's enough books in this room, why not pick any of those?"
"Can't concentrate on longer texts." Weather answered simply. "I like looking at the pictures."
"I'm sure there's some picture books on that shelf over there." Anasui gestured to another side of the room, but made no move to get up.
Weather threw the guide on the floor behind him. He wasn't planning on reading more. Now that his hands were free he could use them to hold Anasui closer, a gesture the man immediately melted into. It was as if he was fine with pretending to have someone attracted to him for a day, as if he wanted to lie to himself that everything was fine. Touch starved really was a fitting term here.
"What's wrong?" Weather finally asked. They made eye contact and he could tell that the other knew what he was getting at. After the years they spent around each other, closeby or not, they learned to read each other very well.
Anasui sighed and let his guard drop. "I talked to someone this morning and... it's been bothering me. It's... everybody in this fucking prison is awful, every single one of them. Every guy is either a wimp or they want to try to kick your ass and I swear every woman is the same here! It's gotten to the point where I wonder if it's the same one every time but just with a different wig! They're all the same. They all act the same, they all look the same... they just want to fuck and then they're gone, none of them even try to have some kind of conversation or connection. Like, I know I'm not the easiest person to get along with, but I just want someone for myself. A relationship or something..."
Weather knew of his habits, hell the entire prison knew. Anasui used sleeping around as a coping mechanism and so he attracted people with similar habits. So in a way every person he met had the same fucked up personality as the next, since people with half a functioning brain knew to stay a safe distance away from the man with murder charges and a short temper. If you'd ask Weather however, he was a lot more complex than that. He was more than they made him out to be.
Though, it felt like Anasui was purposely leaving out important pieces of information. You don't go from being a ladies man to asking your only friend to date you in the timespan of a few hours. There had to be something else. Something he had struggled with for a long time. But Weather stayed quiet, combing his fingers through pink strands of hair until Anasui had everything out of his system.
It took a surprisingly long time. All of his frustrations came pouring out like he had kept them bottled up for ages with no intention to ever let them see the light of day. It visibly tired him out, as his head came to rest on Weather's chest and his eyes slowly fluttered closed. It gave Weather a chance to get a good look at the man. Eye bags were covered up with concealer and his pink mascara had started to smudge a little on the outside edges of his eyes. These minor flaws made him more human, touchable. Beautiful.
Just when he thought Anasui had fallen asleep, his eyes blinked open.
"Can you..." Anasui started but he cut himself off immediately. "No, I'm not even gonna finish that sentence."
"Tell me."
"It's stupid."
"I'm sure it's not."
"How is 'can you pretend to love me?' not a stupid question?" As soon as the words left his mouth, Anasui shot up straight and covered his mouth with his hands. His bright pink eyes went wide in shock and the same expression was most likely mirrored on Weather's own face as well. He felt his otherwise steady heartbeat speed up. The puzzle pieces fell into place.
Not only could he now see why Anasui had acted in such an odd way, he could also piece together why he felt so protective over him and why the younger could do just about anything and he would still be fine with it. It had been so obvious. Why did he only notice now?
"I don't have to pretend." Weather whispered in a softer tone than he already used.
"You're joking." Anasui whispered back.
"No."
"Are you sure?"
The word 'yes' had barely left his lips before Anasui's were on his. Anasui kissed him desperately like he was a man coming up for air after nearly drowning, like Weather was the only one keeping him alive. Weather tried to match his pace and brought his hands to roam across Anasui's stomach and back. Anasui in turn tried to repress a shiver, but couldn't help but let out some appreciative noises.
The kiss went from heated desperation to languid loving kisses over time with only short moments to catch a breath. Weather felt alive, like he too, was a man that had been drowning but had finally found the surface.
When the sky had gone dark and they had to go back to their cells, they found themselves not wanting to leave. But not going back to their cells would only lead to issues later on. Issues they did not want to deal with.
"Goodbye boyfriend for a day." Anasui said with an almost somber smile as if crossing the border from one room to another would break the bond they had built up between each other. He lingered around the gap that led to the hallway outside.
Weather couldn't help it and let his feet carry him closer. "If you need help again tomorrow..."
Anasui's eyes sparkled and he guided Weather towards himself for one last lingering kiss.
"I'll let you know."
