Work Text:

Marinette Dupain-Cheng had a secret- she was a superhero.

Unfortunately, while it was a secret that came with many benefits, it was also one that came with a distinct lack of sleep. And as her alarm rang after yet again getting less than three hours of sleep, Marinette wished she had never heard of her miraculous earrings, much less decided to become a superhero.

Tikki flew in front of her, holding her alarm clock. Marinette squinted at it blearily and wasn’t surprised to learn she had less than ten minutes before class started.

As she resigned herself to yet another tardy, a genius idea hit her, and her eyes lit up.

“Hey Tikki, cutting out transportation time would let me get to school on time, right?”

“Yeah, why...?"

Adrien was not having a good day.

After the third akuma occurring in the middle of the night and a photoshoot that for some reason seemed to have been scheduled at the crack of dawn, Adrien was more than ready to take a nice nap, or better yet, sleep for the next year.

Unfortunately, it was not to be, and Adrien groaned as he hit the snooze button on his phone once more, unwilling to get up from such a warm bed.

“Get up, sleepyhead. We don’t have all day.”

The black kwami was hovering in mid-air, and as usual, was munching on a block of his favorite cheese, camembert. Adrien groaned and turned over, mentally resigning himself to another long day.

Glancing over at his clock, he wasn’t surprised to learn he had less than ten minutes until his first class. Yet another tardy for the books, it seemed.

Or maybe not… Adrien’s eyes lit up.

“Hey Plagg, how do you feel about skipping the car and just going the high way?”

The black kwami groaned. “Do I really want to know?”

The two teenagers, transformed into their superhero selves, landed on the top of the school building simultaneously.

“Chat Noir? What are you doing here?”

“I could ask the same of you, m’lady. Couldn’t stand to be a-paw-t from me?”

“That was awful.” Ladybug shook her head and groaned. She was too tired for this right now. “You don’t ask me and I don’t ask you, deal?”

“I’ll take it.”

Marinette and Adrien stumbled into the classroom nearly dead on their feet just before the first bell, slumping into their seats.

“Woah, dude,” Nino remarked, lightly punching Adrien’s arm. “Rough night, huh?”

“You have no idea,” Adrien mumbled into his desk. He was way too tired to come up with a good excuse right now.

Alya chuckled, lightly poking Marinette’s slumped-over form. “Looks like he wasn’t the only one.” Nino chuckled lightly as the teacher walked into class.

Alya briefly wondered if their exhausted states had to do with one another somehow, then brushed it off. She would ask Marinette later.

Adrien was jumping from roof to roof, avoiding the beams of light the supervillain sent at him.

“Give me your Miraculous and I shall spare you,” the supervillain snarled.

“Blah, blah, blah,” Chat Noir said cheekily, twirling his baton as he landed lightly beside the red-clad heroine. “What’s the plan, m’lady?”

Ladybug didn’t pay attention, but strangely, he swear he heard her words anyways- “I thought I told you not to call me that anymore.”

Chat Noir thought that was a little strange, but ignored it as she continued. “We need to destroy the laser pointer, it’s the most likely place for an akuma.”

Chat Noir smirked. “Purr-fect idea as always, m’lady. I’ll distract her, you grab the object.”

Ladybug’s voice held a hint of a smile, though she still wasn’t moving her lips as she spoke, “Sounds good. Go do your job, kitty.” She mechanically swung out her yoyo, quickly moving towards the villain.

Chat Noir frowned momentarily, wondering why Ladybug was acting so strange, and why everything seemed to be overlaid with a strange sheen of light-

He blinked as his mind blanked, leaving him staring dumbly at the roaring villain destroying Paris. What was he thinking about again?

Right, distraction. Chat Noir leapt towards the akumatized villain, propelling himself with his trusty baton as he prepared to use his cataclysm.

Alya and Nino stared as Marinette and Adrien continued to mumble to themselves in their sleep, occasionally shouting strange commands to each other.

“Go right, kitty! We have to steer him away from the tower!”

“He’s all yours, m’lady! Quickly, capture the akuma!”

Alya and Nino both gaped at the two teenagers as they rose their fists simultaneously. “Pound it!” they shouted, their fists echoing on the desks with a bang that shook through the room.

Adrien and Marinette jerked up, startled awake.

“What’s happening? Kitty, where are you?” Marinette muttered confusedly.

Adrien frowned. He heard Ladybug, but where was she? “I’m right here, m’lady.”

Marinette gawked at Adrien as the classroom gaped, deathly silent. “But- that’s- you’re-”

Adrien didn’t understand what was happening, but he did understand one thing- Marinette seemed to have somehow stolen Ladybug’s voice. How did she do that? It was a neat trick…

Adrien smiled lazily at Marinette, imagining Ladybug in her place. “Nice to see you again, m’lady,” he muttered lazily. “You’re so blurry…”

Marinette stared at the boy she had had a crush on for a full year before silently putting her head back down.

Whatever. She was too tired to care at this point. “Great, goodnight, kitty,” she mumbled. “See you tomorrow.”

Both superheroes blissfully fell back into a peaceful slumber as around them, the classroom broke out into complete and utter pandemonium.

Alya and Nino stared at the teens, shaking their heads.

“Those two were really made for each other.”

Notes:

This was kind of a rough draft of a story that's been on my mind for a while and my first attempt at a fanfiction story, so hope you liked it. Thanks for reading!
