Work Text:
Penny Lamb, sophomore. Choir member with juniors and seniors. Small. Forgetful. Quiet. Weird.
Penny didn’t pay much attention to what others thought about her, why would she? She had her friends in the choir; the loud and amazing people they were. Constance, the kindest soul she had ever met. Ocean, who was loud and creative. Noel, a romantic that Penny quite enjoyed hearing the stories of. Ricky, who was always there to listen and Penny tried her best to listen and understand him. And Mischa, the aggressive bad boy who was a softie at heart (even though he’d rather die than admit it). Every person in the choir was special in their own way and the group was extremely kind to Penny. They made her feel special.
So it didn’t matter to her what others whispered behind her back. She didn’t mind being called a freak for panicking when her food wasn’t quite right or an idiot for needing extra clarification with some things. If someone were to push her into a locker or wall, she’d just pick herself back up and go to class. Penny thought that it was going to stay that way and she was fine with it. No one was going to change what people did to her, right?
Right?
It was a Thursday. Penny’s classes were fine, say a quiz in English that she was unprepared for. Other than that, the day blurred by, all the way up until she was walking to choir. Before she could think, she was shoved into the lockers. Looking up with a gasp, she saw a tall blonde; someone who tormented her often though she never remembered his name. It didn’t matter. She held her breath and stared.
“Hey, freak.” He grinned at her, toothy smile flashing. Penny bit her lip. She was tired of him; how he pushed and shoved her for no reason and told her to do horrible things in her ear. When he leaned close, she closed her eyes and waited.
Nothing. Penny opened her eyes to see…
“Noel? What are you doing here?” She asked, realizing why nothing had happened. The guy has left. Mischa walked from around the corner, smiling lightly.
“Did not need to do anything. Сука ran off.” He let out a hearty laugh and someone else popped up. Ricky, AAC device in hand and smile on face.
“We got concerned and Ocean saw you. Mischa went after him and he ran.”
A sheepish Ocean waved from behind him and Constance appeared, taking Penny’s hand. She smiled and led Penny away from the wall, walking towards the front door of the school.
“Let’s go get food. We can do an extra rehearsal tomorrow, yeah?”
Penny smiled softly.
“Yeah.”
