Work Text:

Rain pitter-pattered down outside of the Starmony Dorms. Water droplets hit the glass of windows before they raced down the smooth, clear surface. Occasional flashes of lightning lit up the night and the deep rumble of thunder broke up the otherwise hypnotic, continuous sound of a rainstorm.

Yuuta loved the thunderstorms and would usually spend them reading under a small light in his room. On the other hand, his brother was slightly less fond of them and would rather spend his time somewhere flashy and loud to drown out the rhythmic taps of rain.

Today, Hinata was at the nightclub with Rinne. Yuuta’s dorm was usually quiet and the three of them would read, talk about rocks, or play board games during thunderstorms. Kaoru and Nagisa weren’t here, though, and Yuuta felt particularly lonely that night, sitting on the couch in his turquoise practice hoodie. It was… empty without anyone else in the dorm.

The blue twin quietly left his dorm with a book and reading light in hand and into the somewhat loud hallway of the 2nd floor. He could hear sounds of Hokuto and Keito shouting about something (whether or not gaoler was a word? What was that about?) and the cheering of Niki and Hiiro down the hall.

He made his way down the stairs and onto the, somehow, quieter first floor, and made his way to one of the rooms. Yuuta lifted up a hand and knocked quietly, not sure if it was even loud enough to be heard over the storm.

The door opened and the twin was greeted by a taller male with bright blue hair whose cold yellow eyes seemed to be able to freeze anyone in their tracks with just one glare. His expression softened when he saw Yuuta, inviting him into his, Arashi, and Tetora’s dorm without a word.

HiMERU’s dormmates seemed to be absent as well. He invited Yuuta over to the couch, who followed him and sat down next to him. The room’s lights were turned off, leaving the pair of blues in a comfortable darkness, only penetrated by Yuuta’s reading light. HiMERU turned on the TV, its light joining forces with Yuuta’s. The blue twin hummed, content, and leaned his head against HiMERU’s shoulder to read.

Moments past with the pair sitting in a comfortable silence, the only sound being the TV and rain. They didn’t speak much on nights like this.

“How was the live?” HiMERU asked, not expecting an answer.

“It was pretty good,” Yuuta responded simply. After a moment, he sighed, “I wish there were more nights like this. We don’t spend enough time together…”

HiMERU chuckled. “Perhaps you and HiMERU could meet up at Cafe Cinnamon tomorrow. HiMERU’s sure Niki would appreciate someone who isn’t Rinne.”

“Heheh, yeah, that’ll be nice,” the twin giggled, turning away from his book to look at what HiMERU was watching and finally registering the ignored voices from the TV as the sounds of an animal documentary. Yuuta smiled, head still on HiMERU’s shoulder. A hand gently combed through the soft, ginger locks and the blue twin leaned into the touch.

The pair fell back into a comfortable silence as the night went on, watching whatever documentary or cartoon that was being aired this late. Images danced across the screen with quiet voices, nearly drowned out by the hypnotic pit, pat, against the windows. The sounds from outside of the room seemed to dim as well. The sounds of Sora’s roommates gaming died down, along with the sounds of Tori demanding something from Yuzuru.

At some point, their own door opened and Arashi returned, giving the two on a couch a glance before crashing in bed with a seemingly new, abit patchwork, plushie. Tetora returned later, although Yuuta didn’t hear much else other than him falling into bed and softly snoring.

Yuuta yawned, his eyelids feeling heavy and the gentle sound of rain lulling him to sleep. He tried to fight it, wanting to spend just a little more time with his friend, but he gave up under the influence of the rainstorm and the night. The last thing he saw was a cute duckling on the TV screen before he fell asleep on HiMERU’s shoulder.

Notes:
