Chapter Text
As usual, Meta Knight stood on top of his pillar at the colosseum in the newly made Waddle Dee town surveilling the area, making sure that no threat came towards it and its residents. Lately though, it has been quiet. Not that is a problem as maintaining the peace is Meta Knight’s job, but the knight itches for adrenaline. The colosseum has mostly fulfilled it, but that has become more predictable each time he has challenged it, and while Kirby gives off a good fight, he is currently out exploring the forgotten land.
Meta Knight still stayed vigilant regardless, just in case of the slightest chance of evil coming its way. He noticed a Waddle Dee, more recognizably the Waddle Dee that works at that works at the cafe ran up to him frantically.
“Sir Meta Knight! Sir Meta Knight!” They cried out.
“What is the problem?!” Meta Knight asks as he grips the hilt of Galaxia ready for battle. The worried expression on the Waddle Dee's face tells him that there’s something definitely wrong. What dares disturb the peace of this small town? Another attack from Gorimondo? A charging pack of awoofies? No matter, he’ll defeat it and make it regret stepping foot on this peaceful town.
“It’s almost noon! That means rush hour is around the corner! The Dee took a moment to catch their breath. “My manager suddenly got ill and there’s no one here to help on such short notice! And well since the town had no incidents lately, the two of us were wondering if you’re able to help us for the hour.” Cafe Dee’s voice grew quieter as they finished their last sentence and patiently waited for a response from the other.
So that was the issue? The cafe is low on staff? Meta Knight flew down from his pillar and landed in front of the cafe Dee so that they could both talk eye to eye.
“So you require assistance at the cafe?”
“Y-yes sir! That’s right! But if you’re unable to, that's fine, we’ll manage.”
“I’ll take the challenge then.” He said flatly.
“Eh?!” The cafe Dee was ready for the decline, to their surprise he agreed to help. Meta Knight was not going to let the poor Dee overwork themself to feed this town, despite his own self care habits, but how hard can it possibly be? He had seen Bandana Dee and Kirby work there from time to time, if the knight can wield a sword then surely a part time job wouldn’t be much of a problem.
The blue orb began making his way to the cafe as the Dee followed suit to show him how it’s done.

“And this is your uniform!” The Cafe Dee has handed Meta Knight a hat, and a blank name tag with a marker. They just went over the procedure to the part timer, it doesn’t sound so bad. Just take the order and give the customer their food. “Alright I’ll be in the kitchen preparing the food. As soon as you fill out that name tag you can start working!” The Dee then proceeded to go to the kitchen and that left Meta Knight alone in the front.
The knight wrote out his name on the little name tag and went to take orders. It wasn’t long until his first customer came.
“Hello! I would like a burger!” Meta Knight simply nodded and went to grab and handed their order. The Waddle Dee thanked him and went to enjoy their meal. And so another one came, and another, and another, Meta Knight fulfilled their orders swiftly without fail.
That is until the clock struck twelve.
A herd of Waddle Dees came out of nowhere swarming the cafe, now all wanting their orders to be made.
It is now rush hour.
The new wave of orders does not overwhelm the knight, in fact Meta wanted to face a slightly bigger challenge. As a part timer, he will make sure he’ll earn a perfect score from these hungry customers! His hands clenched as he got ready to tackle the herd.
As the clock ticks, Meta Knight thins out the herd as quickly as he can while maintaining to meet the standards of a good worker. One by one a new opponent was met and left with satisfaction to their needs and had gleeful expressions. There wasn’t anyone that could break him a sweat.
There was only one more batch of Waddle Dees to be served and that will make Meta Knight victorious, but as he was serving the final few a stray Dee came cutting in front of the line plopping down their burger on the counter with an unhappy expression. The part timer quietly excused their rudeness and continued to serve the other Waddle Dees on the side as the angry Dee spoke.
“Excuse me-” The Waddle Dee quickly read his name tag. “Mark.” Mark? Meta Knight cursed at himself in his mind for his cursive handwriting. No matter, his name does not matter in this situation anyway, and he has a feeling that the Dee wouldn’t care either.
“Yes, is there an issue?” The knight politely asked, the only people left now are the angry Dee and himself. Rush hour is finally over, and the final few were happily served. Normally Waddle Dees are polite and helpful little fellas, but it seems that this one has woken up on the wrong side of the bed today.
Or was unfortunately born with a bad attitude.
“This burger stinks!” They exclaimed.
“Excuse me?” The knight asked again in a calm manner. He must maintain good service.
“There’s too much lettuce in it!”
“Right.” Meta Knight took the burger, went to put less lettuce in it, and served it back to the Waddle Dee. Who in return doesn’t look pleased.
“More cheese.” They demand.
The Knight rolled his eyes, but obliged.
“More Lettuce.” But didn’t they- Whatever, he’s here to serve them after all. Even if this Dee is getting on his nerves.
“Less Cheese.” If Meta Knight wasn’t working here part time he would’ve stabbed the burger with his sword right here and now so he can end it all.
“More Lettuce and Cheese.” and once more he did as he was told and served the burger with a deadpan expression. The Waddle Dee inspected the burger.
“You know what, I’ll have a drink.” Meta Knight slapped the burger off the counter and slammed down a drink in place of it on the spot. He was ready for another unsatisfied reply but then he spotted something in the distance at the edge of the town, running towards it.
A Waddle Dee, running to the safety of the town in fear.
“AWOOFY ATTACK! EVERYONE HIDE!!” And with that, the whole town went into panic. Locking up their stores, and hiding in secured areas so they won’t be harmed, a few had even tripped in the process.
Except Meta Knight, he ripped off his hat, pulled out his sword while flaring out his wings and swiftly jumped over the counter and flew into battle to challenge these beasts. Finally some real action!
He swung and thrust Galaxia into the pack of awoofies and knocked them out, as more came after him, Meta Knight does a tornado spin and gracefully flew up into the air to see the chaos he had unleashed onto the sorry pack, and proceeded to go back to fight off more All while wearing his nametag proudly.
Meanwhile the angry Waddle Dee was still at the cafe standing there in shock but was snapped out of it when they noticed something had spilled onto their foot. It was the drink they ordered.
“I want the manager!” They cried out.
