Work Text:
Momonga’s favourite time of year were the harvesting season of strawberries because that was his favourite food and fruit. Well now that included his favourite person in the entire world he supposed as he had recently just gotten into a loving relationship with none other than Strawberry. They had actually been pining for one another since they met one another back in the Academy and they become quick friends. They dodged around any idea of a relationship for years only talking during the odd drink at the bar and official functions but all it took was one drink in a bar alone together and they woke up the next day in bed together.
They were both obviously quite embarrassed, but after some serious conversation, they agreed to start seeing each other, something their co-workers thought they were already doing. That was why he was bringing his lover to visit his family for strawberry season. He goes back home every year to help out with the harvesting season as he was a dutiful son and also free produce. Momonga hails from a farming town where they were world-renowned for their strawberries. They were of high quality and especially tasty, which made the orders they got insurmountable. Therefore, harvesting time was one of the most important events of the year. That was why it was important for him to be there, as he was a strong deterrent to anyone looking to do nefarious things with the strawberries, but it also meant he was using none of their holiday days for the trip, despite the fact that they had a lot of them as vice-admirals.He was over the moon as he always wanted to bring his lover along to experience something he loved associated with his lover’s name.
Momonga and Strawberry took a small battleship and about twenty of their most loyal men as a small holiday and a work force too, because STRAWBERRIES. His homeland was in the South Blue, and they made their way through the Calm Belt before arriving at their destination. The twenty men weren’t wearing any proper uniforms, and the two vice-admirals were just wearing shirts and shorts with the signature coat. 10 of Momonga’s men started heading towards their usual spot, with Strawberry’s men following behind them as the superior officer walked towards their family house.
The place looked straight out of a postcard with the sun bathing the fields with golden light, giving everything a golden sheen. Acres of rolling fields were absolutely packed with bushes and bushes of strawberries prime for picking. Strawberry was shocked to see the most vibrant strawberries he had ever seen in his life. There were people drenched in sweat working hard in the field picking strawberries. They obviously saw both visitors as they were some very visible people, with Momonga growing to an absolutely insane height for their village and Strawberry’s insanely long head.
The villagers were quite teasing towards Momonga as he had finally brought a man back home after so many years. Everyone knew he was gay because he did not even attempt to hide himself when he was discovered with his neighbour’s son. Strawberry, on the other hand, had a less than average reception and rightfully does not talk to them anymore.
"How are the strawberries so red??? They're redder than your hair," Strawberry said in awe.
Momonga knew he was going to stay with this man for the rest of his life. They finally arrived outside of a picturesque farm house with a humongous farmhouse right behind it. They carefully made their way to the front door so as to not knock any of the garden gnomes that were displayed on either side of the path. Strawberry was seriously creeped out by the numerous stares from the cheery clay sociopaths. The door was slammed open by a plump, cheery woman with hair as white as snow.
"Monga! You’re here! And look who you brought with you!Hi, I’m Monga’s mom, and you must be his boyfriend. How are you? Is Monga treating you ok? Have you eaten? Monga, how about you? Have you eaten?"
Strawberry noted that the doors were slightly pulled from their hinges, which made him quite nervous. They entered the room, and Strawberry was pleasantly surprised by the high ceilings that made sure his head didn’t touch the roof. Momonga caught up with his mother as they walked towards the kitchen area for some refreshments; to be honest, it was more of an interrogation. Strawberry was ‘strongly suggested’ to sit down and wait for the refreshments as Monga helped his mom because he’s a good boy.
They came back out with a pot of strawberry tea and strawberry tarts because Monga had to ensure the love of strawberries for the man called Strawberry. He bit his lip as he creepily watched Strawberry eat a tart. Strawberry’s face physically brightened, and his mouth contorted into a smile.
"You’re right! These strawberries are so good," Strawberry said.
He grinned and took that as a win, as Monga’s mom watched with amusement.
"So, your name is Strawberry? Maybe that’s why Monga is so smitten," Monga's mom grinned.
They chatted for about an hour, making their subject squirm in his seat, but an hour was all he could last for and Strawberry was hurriedly pushed into the room they were going to stay in. They agreed to come down in an hour for dinner, so they had some leisure time in their room. Momonga grabbed their belongings as Strawberry was shown the room by Mom. The room was the guest bedroom, which was tastefully decorated and located outside, like a guest cabin of sorts, at the side of the main house. The walls were made of glass and the interior was all wood, which meant they could watch the sunset as well as anyone who happened to walk along the dirt road.
"How do you like my mom?" Momonga asked nervously.
Strawberry stared at his boyfriend’s nervous face as he was very attractive when nervous, but then he realised he hadn’t given an answer.
"She’s great, Monga," Strawberry answered happily, "but I didn’t see the rest of your family."
"They’ll be here for dinner as they’re all picking strawberries," Momonga said. "You really think so?"
Strawberry nodded and gave his lover a peck on his cheek.
"I really do."
Momonga smiled. He loved harvest season alright, because he’ll always be surrounded by all the people he loves in the world all in one area. And just like that, it’s time to harvest the fruits of his labour. He gave Strawberry a small smile.
"Oh no you don’t! We just got here! "
