Food for Thought

Summary:

You wake up late at night, to the of Percy still working. He would never go to sleep unless someone else tells him he has too. He's too caught up in his revenge to care about his own well being. When you go to talk to him an argument ensues and you let out more emotions than you planned to.

Notes:

There's no escaping the angst when it comes to Percy.

Work Text:

You wake up to the sound of clanking metal. A familiar sound in the Keep. Especially for someone who's room is so close to Percy's. With a tired groan you drag yourself out the warm bed and across the hall into the aforementioned room. You hear more sounds from the inside along with mumbling. Upon opening the door every so slightly you see Percy sitting at his desk, the room dimly lit up by candles.

"Shit." You hear Percy curse as he pulls his hand back, a burn mark forming on his fingers.

You sigh heavily and open the door. The sound startles him, so much so the points his gun at you, wincing at the pain from his fingertips, even though he there's no way he can fire it the way it is now. It's a defense mechanism he's developed even before you met him.

"Again?" You send him a scolding look, "You know that working yourself to death is an actual thing that can happen don't you?" You close the door and walk to him, one hand slowly lowering the gun while the other reaches up to caress his cheek, "You look tired Percy."

"Well I'm not. I'm... just too busy to sleep." Percy looks back down at the gun in his hand before placing it back on the desk, which you can now see is cluttered with all kinds of tools, spare parts, gunpower and fuses. You see him frown as he clenches his now empty hand, the brining pain in his hand not that easy to ignore, "There's still a lot of work to do tonight."

"The fuck there is. You're hurt." You take his hand in yours, careful not to touch his fingers as you turn his palm upwards, "Percy I've known you for years. I've seen you at your worst, your lowest. I know you have your demons but this..." You look behind him, at the gun you know is the List, unable to keep the frown on your face, "This revenge quest is going to ruin you."

"I'm prepared for that. I always was." Percy's voice is quiet but angry, or at the very least very, very frustrated, "It's my price to pay. And I don't mind."

Your eyes widen, a look of hurt flashing across your face for a brief moment, before it's replaced by the one of anger, "God you're beyond stubborn! What about everyone else? What will everyone do when you're gone? You talk about being hurt, but you're also the one hurting others. For gods fucking sake Percy don't you think about the people that love you at all?!" Given the late hours of the night you're doing the best you can to keep your voice down, which resulted in you whisper yelling the gunslinger before you.

Percy chuckles, a sad chuckle, "Everyone who loved me is dead. And those monsters killed them. How is it wrong to want to kill them in return?"

"I didn't say that, I'm saying to be mindful of the people around you, the people who still love you and don't want you to get hurt by pursuing revenge. Please Percy..." You lean your forehead against his, hearing his breath hitch at the sudden close proximity and intimacy, "I love you, I can't stand seeing you do this to yourself." You see his eyes widen briefly before you lean in a kiss his cheek.

As you pull away you see the same stunned look, only now it's also accompanied by a heavy blush across his cheeks and his mouth hanging open. In a way you feel accomplished that you could stun someone like Percy, to render him speechless like this.

Next you lift his palm to your lips, feeling his hand tremble as you press a slow kiss on the inside of his palm and wrist, "I know I can't stop you but I hope I gave you some food for thought."

You let go of his hand while your other hand briefly caresses his jaw before you turn to walk away. You pause at the door, "And get some sleep." You mumble before you walk out.

Percy stands in his room for a few more moments before he collapses back into his chair, one hand falling to his side and the other over his eyes. He takes a few deep breaths, trying to get the flush across his cheeks to go away, a small smile making its way on his face.

He let his hand fall from his face. He looked back at his desk, sighing to himself and shaking his head. Percy slowly snuffed out candle after handle before lying back into his bed, head full of thoughts, mostly the words of your confession replaying over and over again. As he closed his eyes he found himself, for the first time in a while, in a nightmareless sleep.
