Work Text:
The door to Carlisle's office opened and he looked up, expecting to see one of his many (many) friends step inside with some question or concern regarding the impending confrontation with the Volturi. Instead, Esme slipped in furtively, glancing over her shoulder.
Carlisle opened his mouth to greet her, but Esme hurried to him and made a shushing motion, one finger laid across her lips, the other, across his.
Eyebrows raised, Carlisle nodded, curious what put that particular sparkle in his wife's eyes and more than willing to play along to find out.
With careful movements, Esme opened the window, barely making a noise. Tangling her fingers with his, she pulled him to the window and pointed at the nearest tree, tilting her head.
Nodding again, Carlisle let go of her hand, and she climbed onto the sill and leapt, hands and feet -- bare, he only just noticed -- making soft rasps as she caught herself against the trunk, then scrambled upward. Toeing his own shoes and socks off, he copied her example, following her into the tree.
Both perched on a branch in the tree's crown, invisible to anyone outside their little sanctuary.
Carlisle opened his mouth to speak, and again, Esme silently shushed him. Brow furrowing, he tilted his head in unspoken question.
Smiling mischievously, Esme curved both hands around the back of his neck, pulling him to her for a slow, deep kiss.
By the time she pulled back, Carlisle was half-hard in his pants and gripping her tightly against him, his mind empty of any thoughts other than his wife.
Lifting her mouth to his ear, Esme breathed, so quietly that even if another vampire had been standing next to them, they wouldn't have heard, "I needed a moment just for us, without anyone else knowing."
Carlisle nodded and kissed her again, tender and soft, before whispering back, "Any time you need me, I'll always be here for you, Esme."
She didn't reply, simply kissed him again.
After several minutes, they sat, Carlisle with his back against the trunk of the tree, Esme in his lap, held close, enjoying the gentle intimacy as they ignored the rest of the world for a while.
