Chapter Text
Tommy blindly reached his hand over to his nightstand and smashed his hand over his phone in attempt to get it to stop screaming in his ear. He blearily squinted at the time and subsequently groaned. After summoning enough energy, Tommy pulled on a sweatshirt and made his way downstairs.
Framed photos and artwork decorated the walls he walked past. Most of the pictures hosted a young blonde with a bright smile and a few with a tall, green haired young man. Those frames held images of birthdays, vacations, and just casual happy memories between the pair.
There was only one exception which excluded the older- the only picture that they had of Tommy before the age of four. The worn photo depicted a three year old with chubby cheeks and a beaming smile. Tommy stopped in his trek downstairs to gaze at the picture, more specifically, the dark haired woman with sparkling eyes. Those dark eyes that were perpetually stuck gazing at the person who took the picture, while she held Tommy in her arms.
Tommy didn’t think about his parents often. At least, that he would willingly acknowledge. He honestly didn’t know that much about them, hell, he didn’t even know what his dad looked like. But why would he need to know? He had Sam.
Tommy sighed at that.
Sam was all he could have asked for in a guardian, and don’t get him wrong, he loved Sam to death. But that didn’t change the fact that he’ll never have a chance to know his parents. Tommy would never admit it, for Sam’s sake, but it hurt to be the only one in your class who didn’t have a mom to give his Mother’s Day cards to in elementary school. To have to imagine what his dad looked like, because he didn’t know. Forget not knowing what he looks like, Tommy didn’t even know how his parents died.
Tommy knew that he could ask Sam if he really wanted to know more, but whenever the topic got brought up Tommy noticed the older’s anxious fidgets, and how Sam’s eyes would reflect mournful thoughts. And so, after a while he just.. stopped asking.
The questions obviously made Sam uncomfortable, because after all, Tommy lost his parents, and Sam lost his friends. He took a deep breath, and Tommy continued downstairs. No need to get depressed before the day even started, no thanks.
He went down the stairs skipping two at a time. Unsurprisingly, Sam sat at the kitchen table, working away on his laptop with a mug of cold coffee next to him. After hearing Tommy’s not-so-quiet entrance, Sam looked up from his screen and smiled wearily at the teenager.
“Hey Toms, up early today? You’re not due to get up for an hour.” Sam said. Tiredness was evident in his tone, pulling down his syllables and dulling his voice. Tommy raised his eyebrows at the older.
“Sam it’s like, ten to 7.” If Tommy didn’t know the reason why Sam was so surprised by this, he probably would have laughed at the look that Sam dawned as he checked the clock above the oven. Tommy wasn’t oblivious, he noticed how hard Sam worked to provide for them, and that included staying up late into the night, or in this case, until morning.
Tommy pulled out a dish from the cabinet and poured himself a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch (the superior cereal) and sat down at the seat across from Sam.
After rubbing his eyes, Sam looked from Tommy, to his bowl, then back to Tommy, who was eating the dry cereal.
“What are you doing?” The green haired man asked, his accusatory tone went along perfectly with the look of disgust on his features.
“Eating cereal.” Tommy answered with a deadly serious expression.
“You’re eating cereal,” Sam stated, as if trying to fathom how someone could even consider doing… this. “not even regular cereal, you’re eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch, dry. With your hands.”
“What’s wrong with that?” Tommy replied, not relenting his serious mask. Sam started to slowly shake his head, a ghost of a smirk gave away his amusement. “I thought I raised you better than this.” Tommy scooped up a handful of cereal and shoved it in his mouth in retaliation, not once breaking eye contact. Sam simply chuckled and changed the topic of conversation from food.
“What’s your day gonna be like today?” Tommy shrugged and finished chewing.
“I have my AP calc. test today,” Sam nodded and Tommy continued, “should be easy though, it’ll boost my grade up a bit.” Sam stood from his chair and stretched his back. He walked towards the kitchen, then dumped the cold coffee into the sink.
“Not that you need it. Somehow you managed to inherit a math gene. Don’t ask me how, your father took algebra 1 twice.” Tommy looked up at his guardian, who stared at the mug he was rinsing out. Sam wore a tired smile at the memory of Tommy’s father, seemingly unaware of the look he was getting from the younger. Huh. He thought. Alright then.
Tommy stood up, which seemed to stir Sam from his mug-washing trance.
“I’m going to get ready, big man.” The blonde stated as he rinsed out his own bowl.
“That’s a good idea, the hair is at it again.” Sam failed to suppress a smirk as he playfully ruffled the mess on Tommy’s head, to be met by Tommy narrowing his eyes and smacking the hand away. Green bitch.
“Do you want to stop for bagels or something before school today?” Sam asked, glancing back at the boy. Tommy turned around, stretching his arms above his head as he answered.
“Sure, let me just get changed real quick.”
“Alright toms.” Sam returned with a smile as he moved back to his laptop at the table.
*~*~*~*~*~
Tommy didn’t let his eyes linger on the photo of his mother as he walked up the stairs and into his room. He pulled on the school uniform, maroon sweater and khakis, along with the necklace Sam got him for his birthday one year.
As he brushed his teeth, Tommy’s eyes took in his appearance. Thick fluffy blonde hair greeted him, and light bags rested underneath his bright blue eyes. After trying (and failing) to run a comb through his hair, Tommy settled for a brush, which admittedly gave his hair even more volume, which is exactly what he didn’t want. There weren’t any knots though, so Tommy took it as a win.
He walked back to his room, grabbed his books, laptop, and phone, then went back downstairs to wait for Sam. He plopped down on the couch and against his better judgment, Tommy checked Twitter. The only news that Tommy was remotely interested in was hero news, even though he didn’t live in the city the organization was based in. But still, anything to do with superheroes and villains beating each other’s asses has got to be more interesting than whatever politics was going on.
Particularly the Sbi, which was currently the team that held the highest ranked heroes, Daedalus, The Blade, and Descant. Even though they were cool and everything, Tommy didn’t like most heroes. A majority of them used their publicity to get away with things that normally people wouldn’t be allowed to get away with. Heroes like Dream, who probably wouldn’t be able to stop a mugging without leveling a city block. But then again that’s even considering that the hero would care about someone getting mugged. The 2nd ranked hero stuck to preventing crime in the richer areas of the city.
Aside from Dream, Tommy had respect for the sbi. Despite their high amount of success, the group mostly kept to themselves. Tommy has even heard accounts from employees at a McDonald’s that the group regularly went to after most fights.
He laughed as he remembered hearing about what had happened when some dude tried to rob the place, only to be met with the superheroes sitting at one of the tables, dressed in full get ups and all. The Snapchat video of the dude getting pummeled by Descant had circulated Twitter for a good two months, and Tommy still laughed at it every time he came upon it.
Yes, anyway, every other hero besides the sbi? Bullshit. Sam walked down the stairs properly, (opposed to Tommy’s method) and stood at the doorway while Tommy gathered his things. Sam’s eye caught the pendant around Tommy’s neck.
“I didn't know you still wore that.” he said, smiling a bit. The teenager nodded, “The one time I will agree with your style, old man.” he quipped. Sam scoffed and muttered something about “kids these days..” as he locked the door behind them.
They got into Sam’s car parked along the street, and the pair headed off for their bagels.
*~*~*~*~
Techno.. didn’t really know why he was here. Well he knew why he was here, but not really. Phil was being oddly vague, which, as someone who had known the man for years, techno could say was quite concerning. It didn't help that chat kept spamming sus. Fuck them.
After being on the sbi team with him for a while, techno was accustomed with all types of Phil- worried Phil, fatherly Phil, “let’s overthrow the hero organization from within because they forced us to be government workers against our will” Phil.
The older man was always detailed. He was clear with what he wanted, and even clearer with his instructions. So when he told techno to visit a random guy’s house and bring him to one of their safe houses, techno was a little hesitant. Phil himself looked.. shaken up(?) in the moment, now that he thought about it.
He also told techno that this was *ahem* not an “on the books” situation, which essentially meant that techno wasn’t going into this as, The Blade- the hero who worked for the hero organization.
He was going into this as The Blade- the hero who was forced to work for the organization and is a part of a coup to take down said organization.
And so, techno took the day off, and was currently driving three hours outside of the city.
He watched as the tall buildings and large towns slowly turned into a more suburban look, and two hours later he was pulling up across the street to the address that Phil wrote down. Sighing, techno put his hair into a low ponytail at the base of his neck.
He was dressed in his civilian clothes, and felt oddly defenseless. His sword was still in the backseat, along with other weapons, but he was missing his mask and armor. He still had his hair too, but being bright pink and waist length didn’t exactly aid in the intimation factor.
Stiff from the ride, techno stepped out of his car and stretched his arms. The hero crossed the street and before long stood in front of a medium sized house. He honestly didn’t really know what he was gonna say, but he was kinda past that point by now, seeing as he just knocked on his door.
Techno awkwardly stood on the stoop of this random house, waiting for a random guy to come out, so he can take him to a random safe house, for some random reason-
His thoughts were cut short when the door swung open, and revealed a very very tall dude with dark green hair. Techno wasn’t even short, but this guy was a good few inches taller than him.
Tall, a voice in chat interrupted
guys.. he's taller than us
this is awful
i like his hair
i wonder what brand he uses
stfu
He smiled at techno, “Hey! Can I help you?” Techno was wishing he was anywhere else but here, when he said,
“hey, I’m techno, um, Phil sent me here?”
This seemed to have been the right thing to say, because the guy’s face went through about 5 different emotions before landing on.. Fear?
he’s sketchy
sus
sus
not again please
His friendly smile immediately dropped as he peeked his head out the door and motioned for Techno to come inside. After following Techno inside, the man closed the door and locked it, and spun around to face the hero.
“What do you want? Phil didn’t actually send you, did he?”, he demanded, hands on his hips. Techno raised his hands in surrender.
“Listen dude, I’m just doing what he told me to do. Phil told me to give you this.” He dipped his hand into his jeans pocket, only to be met with a pointed glare from the man. “Slowly.”
Techno slowly eased the slip of paper that held the address and handed it to the ma- you know what never mind- Green Dude. He handed the paper to Green dude.
GREEN DUDE
Purple guy
omfg stop with the fnaf references
stop arguing this is getting interesting
Techno continued to ignore the chat. Green guy hesitantly took the paper and techno could practically feel the fear that took over this man. He watched Green dude’s face fall as he read the note, until he dropped the paper. The man let it fall to the ground, preoccupied as he ran towards the windows. Techno vaguely heard a car pulling up to the house.
Green guy swore and turned to techno, “Listen we need to get-“
They were interrupted by pounding on the door. Green guy cursed again under his breath, and took off farther back into the house. Techno followed him.
They stopped at a desk in what appeared to be a living room, Green guy grabbed a pen and was hurriedly writing on a piece of paper.
“I need you to listen right now. Go to this school, and pull this kid out of class, give him this note. I don’t care what you have to do, just get him out of that school and out of here. I’ll keep them away from the front, go around the back and get to your car.”
Green guy shoved the paper at techno, and was ushering him to the back door. Just as the back door closed behind him, Techno heard shouting-
Wait a minute..
Techno knows that annoying voice from anywhere. Is that.. is that Dream??
Dream?
what is he even doing here
ew not the teletubby
BAHAH
WAIT WE LEFT GREEN GUY IN THERE GO BACK GO BACK
He peeked through the window, only to see the number 2 hero on the other end, yelling at Green guy along with the other members of his team, Flame and 404. They trio were sort of just standing there, not making any moves towards green guy.
Especially Dream. Even though he was yelling, he seemed particularly apprehensive, maybe even… scared of Green guy? Huh. Techno thought.
At this point Techno decided he should jump in. As he reached for the door, he made eye contact with green guy, who was subtly shaking his head at Techno, as if knowing what he was going to do.
Okay then? Maybe he won't be doing that. Even though Techno could theoretically win a fight against Dream, he wasn’t really up for a 3v1 against the entire team. He turned away from the house and started the walk to his car.
Techno stopped mid-step. In that case, maybe he shouldn’t have left green dude by himself, pretty much defenseless against The Dream Team. Chat was already yelling at him to go back-
Boom.
If Techno wasn’t a superhero, he probably would have been flung forwards from the explosion that just came from Green guy’s house.
What. The. Fuck. He thought as he just stood looking at the sudden mess that a good portion of this guy’s house had become.
They had a bomb?! Why did they have a fucking bomb? Chat was yelling something at him, but he wasn't listening. Techno had to admit that his heart jumped when none other than fucking green guy burst out from under the rubble of the half exploded house.
He was followed by a disoriented Dream, who was shoving debris away, trying to get to Green guy without tripping on stray siding and drywall. The man himself just looked over at techno. His eyes were wide, partially shielded by the tousled green hair, dusted with white from the explosion.
“Go, I’ll keep them here, just go.” He shouted in a hoarse voice at Techno.
Once Dream followed Green guy’s look, Techno could hear the gears turning in his head when the hero saw the pinkette.
“Blade,” he shouted, a slight hint desperation hidden in his voice, “get over here NOW-“
Dream was interrupted as he stumbled back from the unexpected punch Green guy just threw.
damn.
OKAY THEN
This seemed to have been enough to distract Dream, because the hero just lunged for the other man.
Techno did admittedly feel a bit bad about just up and leaving Green guy, but considering he was straight up beating dream’s ass, he came to the conclusion that he would most likely be fine. Not to mention he also just walked out of an explosion completely unscathed soo..
Yeah, he’ll probably be fine.
Techno speed walked over to his car and just absorbed the events of the last 20 minutes as he sat inside.
“Why me?” He solemnly muttered as he turned the key in the ignition and started his trip to a .. high school? Whatever.
Techno had just accepted it at this point.
*~*~*~*~*~
If Techno was being honest, he’d rather be fighting Dream as opposed to what he is doing right now. Because at the moment, Techno was standing in the front office of some random private school, talking with the old lady who sat at the desk.
“No, no, ma’am, I’m a hero,” he pulled out his hero badge for the second time and showed it to the old bat, who just squinted her blue eyeshadow painted eyes.
“I’m going to need to talk to a student. Is there maybe someone else I can speak to about this?” The lady started spewing something about respect or some shit and Techno pinched the area between his eyes and sighed.
just kick her
dude no she’s an old lady
even better
two words- brittle. bones.
Meanwhile, Techno was starting to think about the consequences of leaving right after the house blew up. Well no, he thought about it at the moment, but now he was starting to rethink it.
Number one: leaving the green guy at the house? Ok, probably not the best decision, mainly because the guy was fairly sketchy. But then again, he also without a doubt knew Phil, and considering why Techno was even at the house in the first place, he had a feeling that Phil cared about him.
Number two: leaving him with the dream team. Sooo.. okay techno can’t really justify this one. Well he can but it still didn’t feel right to him. To be honest, Green guy walked out of a fucking explosion, completely unscathed, then after the explosion started beating Dream’s ass. So, the green guy was obviously not powerless, but was he enough to stand up to Dream? When Techno had left, Flame and 404 were still knocked out but there was no guarantee that green guy would be able to get out of there before they woke up.
But also, Green guy did tell him to grab this kid, (who he was assuming was green guy’s? If not then that would be really awkward.) and techno couldn’t really do that with Dream trailing his ass.
That also brought up the question why Dream was even after Green guy in the first place. The dude seemed to be living a normal life, but the last thing that Techno needs to do right now is assume things. He honestly still had no clue what the fuck was going on. For prime’s sake- why didn’t Phil tell him all this?
It was then that techno realized the old lady was still talking, but someone walked out of the principal’s office. A blonde kid wearing a maroon sweater opened the door, readjusted his backpack swung over his shoulder and walked over to the front desk.
child
we’re at a school what were you expecting
The secretary immediately dropped the lecture she was delivering to Techno and smiled towards the newcomer.
“Hello Tom, did you have a good meeting with Ms. Wascheck?” The younger one offered a charismatic smile in return.
“Yes Mrs. Carney, we should be all set for the fall club fair,” The blonde looked over at Techno and asked, “Is everything good over here?” Mrs. Carney smiled and answered, looking Techno directly in the eyes. “Mr. Watson was just leaving.”
He was about to protest when Tom(?) met techno’s eyes and said, “I’ll walk him out for you.” Techno was also very aware of the Sperry shoe that was pressing down directly on his foot under the desk as the teenager stared at him.
“Thank you very much Tom, good luck with the fair.”
This was weird. The foot lifted off of his own, and Techno was now being escorted out of the door. But as soon as they passed the threshold and the office door closed behind them, Tom’s demeanor changed noticeably.
uh oh
just punt him
He turned and looked directly at techno, his smile was completely dropped.
“You’re a hero.” He stated at techno, as if he was sure already.
“Yes.” Techno answered in a gruff voice, eyebrows raised.
Okay, okay, before you say anything- Techno was not intimidated by a high schooler, alright? He was just… going along with it?
sure.
“Let me see your badge.” The kid offered his hand open, and waited for Techno to hand it over. Reluctantly, Techno passed it. “Technoblade? That’s a weird fucking name. Kinda cool though.” Techno rolled his eyes. After confirming that Techno was in fact a hero, the kid handed it back.
“Okay sorry, I didn’t want to let some rando into the school. Where do you need to go? I'll take you.” He started walking and Techno just decided it was best to follow.
guys i'm getting attached
that's what purple guy said
STOP PLS I BEG
“Umm” The hero pulled out his piece of paper that Green guy handed to him, and tried to read the rushed writing.
“Thomas.. Slimuns?” He stated in an unsure tone.
They walked towards a staircase at the end of a hallway, a noticeable lack of students, as class was probably happening. Tom looked over at him, “Slimuns? Are you sure that’s what it says, big man?”
Techno narrowed his eyes at the younger. “Don’t patronize me, child.” The kid immediately rounded on him.
“Don’t call me child, you old fuck.” He huffed at the hero. Techno let out an offended scoff,
“How old are you, 15? I’m only like, six years older than you.”
“Oi! I’m 16 for your information.”
“Okay, five years then, and that just proves my point.” Now defeated, the teen grumbled.
“Whatever. Do you mean Thomas Simons?” Techno looked back at him as they climbed the stairs.
“Thomas Simons? Where can I talk to him?”
can we take this one instead one voice chimed in.
“This is your lucky day, my fine, senior citizen friend. You’re already talking to him. Also, I go by Tommy.” A group of boys walked near them and Tommy high fived and greeted the group as they passed. Oh. Well okay.
Techno hummed in surprise. Cool.
“Oh okay. In that case we need to leave.” Tommy looked at him incredulously as the bell rang and students started to empty the classrooms.
“What? Why?”
“Uhhh, honestly I don’t know but there are people after you.” Tommy scoffed.
“Wow, that was an amazing explanation.” The teen said sarcastically.
“Why would I even go with you? What if you're trying to kidnap me?” Techno rubbed his eyes, dreading his entire existence. Instead of trying to explain, he handed him the note that Green guy told him to pass on. Tommy tentatively took the note and his eyes scanned the page. Techno watched as his face morphed to one of recognition. The blonde bit the inside of his lip, clearly considering his options. Techno just stood waiting, very aware of the stares the students gave the pair.
Finally, Tommy looked up at techno.
“I’ll go with you,”
huh
That was.. surprisingly easy?
Easier than expected
Techno, for once, found himself agreeing with the chat. Surprisingly easy.
“But dude I can’t leave right now”
what.
nice going
lmao
L
Techno sighed and looked to the ceiling. Okay, he retracts his earlier statement- not surprisingly easy. They stopped outside of a classroom.
“For the love of- why. why can’t you leave?” He asked, as he pinched his brow again. Tommy nonchalantly pointed a thumb over his back to the classroom behind him.
“I have an AP calc. test.”
“Are you kidding me?” Techno asked, more of a plea. Tommy raised his hands in surrender, thumbs looped in his backpack straps. “Hey don’t blame me, this is my last class that I need to bring up to an A+. If I get a 4.0 this semester Sam is taking me to Disney world. I can’t miss this test.”
“Okay okay, fine. Prime, of course the one kid that I have to take from school refuses to leave. What am I even supposed to do now? I'm a 21 year old trespassing in a highschool.”
Tommy shrugs.
“Go talk to the guidance counselor for me, explain whatever the situation is so I don't get in trouble for skipping class.”
When Techno made a face at that, Tommy let out an exasperated sigh, scanning the hallway before his eyes met a random kid. “Deo!” Tommy called at said kid, who was wearing a.. a Santa hat and sunglasses? The dark haired kid walked over and greeted Tommy.
“Hey Deo, you have a free period, right?” Tommy asked the teen.
“Yeah, Tom, what do you need?” The kid asked as he adjusted the hat on his hair.
“Could you take this bloke to Halo for me?” Tommy asked. Halo? Deo looked over at Techno and nodded.
“Thanks so much man, I'll see you later.” Before Techno could say anything, Deo started walking away, and Tommy had entered the classroom.
Now as a 21 year old man, who is also a superhero, no. Techno was not intimidated by high schoolers. But as a 21 year old man who had social anxiety and also no clue how to talk to high schoolers..
maybe.
Prime, Wilbur is going to make fun of him so much for this.
guys we just got ditched by a 16 year old
L
L
wait im lost who’s sam
After quieting the chat, he caught up with Deo and they continued to walk down the hall. It actually seemed like a pretty nice school, not unlike the one that Techno went to.
Then again he attended his school under the penalty of legal action.
And his school had military guards..
maybe it was a bit different.
Okay, this is really awkward. Techno chose not to be concerned by the fact that Deo didn't really seem all that phased that he was taking an adult man to the guidance counselor's office.
Dude say something. a voice suggested in his head.
ask him ab fnaf security breach
what why
does anyone even play fnaf anymore
i m so lost in the fnaf lore at this point
Isn't everyone tho
“So, how do you know Tommy?” As soon as he said it, Techno immediately regretted it.
Are you kidding me. Out of all things Techno could have said, he decided to ask the kid who Tommy was going to school with, how he knew tommy.
The voices booed him from a corner of his mind. Techno facepalmed, and Deo laughed.
“We go to school together, as I hope you noticed.” he chuckled. “You really don't know how to make conversation, do you?” Techno shook his head.
“I don't get why I'm so bad at it.” Deo laughed again, and turned down a hallway. “Good luck with that, man.” he waved goodbye and techno realized he was outside of an office. Okay then. He thought as he went inside.
