It quickly became a game: who was going to say the first word, who was going to smile, who was going to pretend to cough, and who was going to make the first move.
Shownu stared straight at his coffee, stirring and stirring it even though he drank it black. You didn’t want to sit here in silence but you weren’t about to break for him.
Everyone knew that Shownu was the strong and silent type. So, when he was irritated or upset, like now when you had argued and began to ignore each other, it was as if he had become even quieter. It was a silly thing to argue over, which is why it didn’t stop you two from still getting coffee together as planned, but you had told him weeks ago that when he came back from touring that you wanted to have dinner with him and your parents. He had even agreed. But last night over the phone, you two had gotten into it because he claimed he didn’t know and that it was such short notice.
You watched him stir his black coffee again and again. You had already finished your pastry and half of your coffee. Hyungwon had texted you a little bit ago asking if you and your silent boyfriend had made up yet. Obviously not.
You took the last drink of your coffee and stood to throw away the trash. Shownu’s eyes immediately raised and watched your movements. Once you returned to the table, you gave him one long look, full eye contact, for about a minute and a half before you finally shook your head and grab your phone and keys. You always broke first when you argued like this, but this time you weren’t in the wrong. And you weren’t going to stay here in silence. All you wanted was to have a nice dinner with the guy you loved and your parents.
You turned to head out after one last look. While walking away, you heard the metal chair scrape against the ground behind you and within seconds a strong hand grabbed your wrist and stopped you. You glanced over your shoulder to see Shownu searching for the right words to say. When he didn’t say anything, you began to pull yourself from his grasp.
Once again, his grip tightened around your wrist but this time you felt him pull you back into his arms. You were now face deep in his chest as he held you like his life depended on it.
“(Y/N)…” Even when you were upset with him, the way he said your name made your heart flutter. “Listen, I’m sorry. I’d love to have dinner with your parents. I’m just nervous and still stressed from touring. I wanted to come home and relax with you.” As he talked, your arms wrapped around his torso and you looked up from his chest to see his tired eyes looking back at you.
“Will you please talk to me now? It’s making me more stressed not to hear your voice.” He admitted with a small chuckle. You smiled up at him and then sighed.
“I love you.” You said softly, laying your head on his chest again.
“I love you too.”
