Work Text:
It was late afternoon, rays from the setting sun shined through the Blight manors window. Sitting in the manor's living room was a mint haired lady rambling nervously to a guard in a golden mask. The mint haired lady known as Odalia Blight rambled about her husband Alador Blight and how hard he's been working on the abominations, reassuring them they'll be done soon.
Hunter or the golden guard he's known as came requesting the abominations be done soon. As his boss Emperor Belos needs them done as soon as possible, and he didn't want to stay long. He found Odalia to be an annoying nuisance and worst of all a suck up. The reason he hated it was because of how he saw how bad she treated others, even her own children. As much as he didn't like the youngest Blight, the way she acted reminded him of Kiki, and her outbursts were almost as bad as Belos'. Her behavior unnerved him a little, if he was being honest.
Most of the visits would just turn into bragging about her kids accomplishments and shaming them for failing, even for the smallest things. So during his visits he learned to tune her out, and only pick up on the important bits that actually mattered. Which was good for him since Belos made him visit the Blight manor at least once a week. Hunter always tried to keep the visits short in any way he could, which meant not getting into they're weird family semantics. Though he guessed fate had other plans.
It was a fairly normal visit though Mrs. Blight was rather quiet, but Hunter wasn't complaining. As he was grabbing his things he heard a shrill anger filled shout.
"I thought I told you not to do anything stupid today!" Mrs. Blight yelled, her face turning red. "Sorry mom, but it was a-" a green haired boy tried to explain before being cut off. "I don't care for excuses! First school and now this!" Her voice gets louder, making Hunter flinch. "Mrs. Blight, this is not very professional of you ya' know. Stop while you're ahead" the guard spoke up, his joking tone laced with an angry sternness no one could miss. Hunter watched as the caller drained from the Blights face, as her son tried to hide a smirk.
Mrs. Blight stuttered a quick apology, then walked off in shame, claiming to go check on her husband. The boy burst with laughter "Wow, did you see the look on her face! Man, I owe you big time." The boy's energy made Hunter chuckle to himself "Don't mention it, it's part of my job to protect people from crazy's." His comment made the boy laugh and just smile harder "I- I'm Edric by the way!" The boys shook hands "I'm the golden guard" Hunter's face turning red, glad he wore a mask. He then pulled away once he realized he was holding on for a bit too long.
The conversation went on for a while, longer than Hunter expected. He barely even noticed Mrs. Blights return. "Alador is almost down with the new batch of abominations, golden guard!" Her cheery voice laced with nervousness "Alright I'll notify the emperor, I'll be back to pick them up tomorrow" he responded in a low voice, trying to be a bit more professional around her. Mrs. Blight nodded understandingly, then walked off once again. As soon as Hunter was about to follow he felt a tug on his sleeve "Wait here's my number, so we can talk more!" Edric said, handing him a small piece of paper with quickly scribbled on numbers.
Hunter blushed, now really thankful for the mask. "A- alright, I'll talk to you later then..." he grabbed the slip of paper before waving goodbye and leaving. Feeling embarrassed as ever, thinking of how awkward he must have seemed. He grabbed his staff as he said goodbye to Mrs. Blight, flying off back to the emperor's castle.
