Work Text:

“Nnah, Ritsu-kun, I’m real glad we’re roommates, yknow? It’s good t’be able ta spend time with someone I got so much in common with.”

“What do you mean?” Said Ritsu, voice slightly muffled by the pillow he was smooshing his face into as he lay on his bed, with the intent of not moving from there for quite a while.

“Well, ya really really like Ikkun, right?”

“Is this your way of saying you like Maa-kun?” Ritsu suddenly jolted upright in shock. “I won’t allow it!”

“Nope, ‘f course not, calm down, will ya!” Mika shouted, waving his hands around in the air as if in surrender. “I just meant I’d have th’exact same response as what ya just did if I heard someone liked Oshi-san.”

“You really should have said that first, Mikarin.” Ritsu sulked, flopping back into his original slumped over position. “Making me get up for no reason, how unfair~ I really should have thought of that though. Given how obvious your feelings for Itsuki are I guess that makes more sense.”

“They’re obvious? What’d I do?”

“Really, Mikarin?”

“Yeah, really. ‘S it something I said?”

“Maintenance.”

“Huhhh?”

“Everyone knows what maintenance means.”

“Uhh, ev’ryone?”

“Everyone.”

“Oh.”

“Wait, you really thought people wouldn’t know what you’re talking about?” Ritsu questioned him, incredulously, given his knowledge of, well, everything Mika had ever said about his relationship to Shu.

“I mean, guess I never really thought about it. When I’m thinking ‘bout Oshi-san, I can’t help but talk ‘bout him too, I s’pose. ‘N since I’m always thinking ‘bout him, then I talk ‘bout him an awful lot.”

“Well, I know the feeling, I suppose. At least you have “maintenance” to brag about.” Ritsu muttered that last part, not without bitterness.

“Well at least Ikkun’s in the same school as ya, in the same country as ya, and on the same side of the world as ya!” Mika exclaimed, in a loud outburst. “I might’ve had the guts t’actually get into a relationship with ‘im, unlike ya, but that don’t mean much when he’s far away from me as can be! Makes it worse, even, since I know what it’s like ta really be with ‘im!”

“Oh please, Itsuki calls you on the phone more often than Maa-kun sees me in person. And I’ve tried to confess to him! Do you know how many times I’ve called him my husband?”

“Too many t’play off as just being a joke?”

“It got to too many to play off as just being a joke years ago. Now it’s at the stage where the idea of it being a joke is a joke itself. And he still has no idea.”

Suddenly calmer, and somewhat pityingly, Mika replied. “Wow, Ritsu-kun. That’s real sad. Guess we both have our problems, huh.”

“Yeah, we certainly do. You weren’t wrong when you talked about how similar we are. Right down to the hair colours and everything.”

“What d’ya mean?”

“Well, we both have black hair, although yours is weirdly greenish. And we both like people with pink hair.”

“Well if my hair’s weirdly greenish fer bein’ black, then Ikkun’s hair’s weirdly purplish fer bein’ pink!”

“Then Itsuki’s hair looks like candyfloss!”

“Yeah, it does, don’t it? It’s real soft too.” Mika sighed, seeming to have missed the fact that that had been an insult, or perhaps he was so happy to be able to talk about Shu that he wasn’t all that bothered by it.

“Maa-kun’s hair is really soft too, but he hardly ever lets me touch it, or anywhere around his head and neck. He’s still bothered about the biting thing even though that was aaaages ago.”

“Who doesn’t like gettin’ bitten? Why, when Oshi-san ‘n I do maintenance-”

“Shut up about maintenance!”

Notes:

Hope you enjoyed this! I love Ritsu and Mika’s friendship, plus I think the parallels between their respective relationships are always fun. Have a good day/night!
