Work Text:

Roy had barely processed the door slamming. He was ‘in the zone’. He was working on a new batch of propeller arrows, one of the many sets he was working on that night. Roy’s tinkering comes to a short stop when he feels the strong presence on his back. Roy immediately knew who it was, Jason, this is technically his safehouse, but they had been living together for a while now so it really wasn’t a question. (He knew someone wasn’t breaking in, you would have to be stupid to even consider doing so, neither of them were small and they were both fairly intimidating, even for Gotham standards). He turns his head to press a kiss to Jason’s cheek before he goes back to working.

“Bat business?” he questions, though he really didn’t need to. Roy knew the only time Jason ever came home as upset as he was, was because of his family. Okay, Roy shouldn’t generalize. Jason loves his family. Bruce was the issue. In fact if Bruce wasn’t The Batman Roy would’ve knocked him on his ass, sometimes it’s a very tempting thought-- It’s always a very tempting thought. He abused Jason. He abused Dick. Roy could guarantee he abused the rest of his kids as well. It’s not that hard to be a good dad. Roy manages to do it, as fucked up as he is. Lian is safe, happy, and loved.

“Fuck Batman,” Jason grumbles, pressing himself closer to the working man, who melts into his touch. Aaaand Roy was right. Bruce is a̶l̶w̶a̶y̶s̶ the problem. He knew Jason wouldn’t want to talk about it, especially if he felt forced. He’d wait for Jason to bring it up on his own terms. Instead he’d attempt to lighten the mood.

“I’m not getting any more work done, am I?” Roy questions, hinting at a playful tone to his voice. Jason rests his head on Roy’s shoulder, surveying over his work area.

“It looks like you’ve gotten plenty of work done,” he murmurs. Jason knew all about Roy’s tendency of overworking himself. Now, Jason was right, Roy certainly could take a break, that would interrupt the flow, and he had a good one going at the moment, but his boyfriend was warm and Roy was a sucker, though he doesn’t falter until he feels Jason’s hand on his.

“Please, Roytoy.”

Yeah, Roy’s a sucker. He sets his tools down, allowing himself to focus on Jason. It was nice until Roy realized just how sore he was. Jason, of course, had caught onto it as well.

“You seriously haven't taken any breaks since I’ve been gone?” Jason questions. Roy knew this question was a trap and the pause he took was all Jason needed for an answer. He tugs Roy off of his stool.

“Jaybird, ‘m fine,” Roy tells him, though he makes no effort to stop him. He was just starting to catch onto how tired he actually was. Jason falters at Roy's voice. Normally Jason would have persisted (pulling Roy to their room and putting him to bed), but Bruce had put him in a mood and he was worrying about ‘fucking up’. Something they wouldn’t think plausible to each other. They were both the black sheep of their families. Both had been cast aside-- thrown out because they couldn’t be controlled. They were good kids who made stupid mistakes and they got that. They had each other and neither would judge the other for their past mistakes.

“You’ve been working non-stop for the past ten hours, that’s almost half a day,” Jason points out. Roy pauses. There’s no way it’s been that long, he put Lian to be around eight, Jason left around nine. Roy had started working in between that time frame and it was… oh shit. “Yeah,” Jason agrees, following Roy’s train of thought. He had stayed up all night working on arrows and while he personally wouldn’t consider it a bad thing, he could understand why Jason wasn’t too happy with it.

“Sorry ‘bout that,” Roy murmurs, repositioning himself so he’s facing Jason. He places his hands on the sides of Jason’s face, caressing his face ever so slightly. Jason attempts to resist, but ends up melting into the soft touches.

“Shower then sleep?” he offers. Roy gives him a flirty smirk. A smirk that instantly gets shot down, “Maybe if you would have taken a break you’d get shower sex,” Jason tells him in a tone that came off as stern, but Roy knew he’d meant it in a joking way. He pecks Jason on the lips.

“I’ll keep that in mind,” he murmurs, ghosting his lips over Jason’s. In response he grabs Roy’s jaw, there was little to no actual grip, it was just enough to hold him in place.

“And what do you think you’re doing?” Jason questions, keeping his stern tone, even though he knew Roy saw right through it. Roy drapes his arms over Jason’s shoulders.

“Me? I ain’t doin’ nothin’,” he says with a faux innocence. Jason rolls his eyes at his lover.

“You’re not doing anything,” he corrects. Roy smirks.

“Exactly,” he states. Jason had played right into that. Roy does his best to not laugh, especially after Jason rolls his eyes at him for the second time. Jason could tell Roy was exhausted, specifically in how amusing he found that and in how he hangs off of Jason. Not that it was unusual for Roy to cling to him, it certainly wasn’t, but when he’s that tired he puts more of his weight on Jason than he normally would. Jason could easily handle it, it was just a little tell for him. Letting him know his boyfriend was in dire need of sleep.

“We should get you to bed, lover,” Jason murmurs, not bothering to move his face away from Roy’s. He places his hands on Roy’s hips, giving him a small, reassuring squeeze.

“What about that shower, you kinda smell after patrol,” Roy jokes, pressing his chest to Jason’s. He rolls his eyes for a third time that night.

“I could quite literally ring the sweat out of your hair, you have no room,” Jason tells him, making no attempt to hide the amusement in his tone. Roy rests his head in the crook of Jason’s neck, kissing the base of his neck.

“So we should shower,” Roy asks, now though his voice was starting to show the drowsiness that came with no sleep.

“You gonna fall asleep on me, Harper?” Jason questions with a teasing tone. Roy chuckles. Yeah, no-- he would fall asleep if he attempted to shower.

“ I’m good to go, Jaybird,” Roy mumbles, despite the fact that he wasn’t. They both knew that.

“Bedtime, baby,” Jason tells him softly, starting to walk him to their room. Roy makes a small attempt at protest, not using his feet, but Jason just picks him up.

“Thought you didn’t like goin’ to bed dirty,” Roy mumbles. He was right about that, but Jason could care less at that point and time. Roy needed sleep.

“I’ll live,” Jason tells him. He runs his hand through Roys hair, a proven way to successfully distract the man and that it did. Roy’s hair was in fact slick with sweat. G̶r̶o̶s̶s̶. If Jason knew Roy wouldn’t have caught on he would have cringed, he didn’t. He gets Roy into their room and he gets him to lay down, only for Roy to pull Jason on top of himself. While they were both gross and sweaty a shower could wait until morning after they get woken up by a toddler who has too much energy for seven in the morning.
