Work Text:
“Uhm....” Kon breathes, eyes wide with Bart and Cassie behind him as they sneak into the league of assassins base.
Or at least.
That was the plan.
“Get in here before you draw attention” The Red Hood hisses, much less intimidating now that they’ve seen a different side of him, during the reading.
“What are you even doing here?” Bart demands as he speeds past Kon and right into Jason’s space. But instead of flinching or doing anything normal, Jason just sighs, air hissing through filter of his helmet as he states “I could ask the same of you three. But I feel like we’re all here for the same thing”.
Cassie looks at him, exchanges a glance with Kon and Bart and then nods. “If you’re here to get payback at these people for what they did to Tim” Cassie starts “And what they tried to do” Kon interjects “Then yes” Cassie finishes, eyes gleaming with determination.
Jason tilts his head like he’s observing the three of them and then finally gives a nod.
“Ra’s room is down the hall. I figure we take him out first. Then we try to get some info out of him or the surrounding assassins about his sisters” Jason explains, tone of voice making it clear that he’s going to enjoy the search for the information they need.
“Oh? The old dude? Already taken care of” Bart says, suddenly appearing in-between Cassie and Jason with a smirk. It’s a smirk that reminds Kon that they can be very glad Bart is one of the good guys.
Jason stills, head tilting “You sure?” he asks and Bart nods.
“And the sisters?” Jason asks again, turning his head to take in either side of the hallway they’re in, as if the two women would appear at any moment.
“Couldn’t find them. Not in this base. Couldn’t find them in any of the bases, actually” Bart explains “So I looked into their computers and they don’t actually have a log for them or where they are or where they’re going? But I did find some info that they’ve basically been banished” Bart explains, shrugging despite the tension that Kon can see in his shoulders.
Jason taps his foot when he thinks, Kon notices, Jason’s helmet drooping down and the toe of his boot tapping against the stone floor.
“Did you happen so see Talia?” Jason asks after a moment, turning to Bart.
Bart thinks for a moment, too fast for the human eye to see “You mean the Bat Brat’s mom? I think so. She was in another wing of the place but I’m fairly certain she at least kind of looks like him” Bart says.
Jason doesn’t wait for the whole answer, turning his back on Bart the moment he says “I think so” and heading in some direction or another.
“Hey! We’re in a base of assassins. Do you mind being a little discrete?” Kon whisper-yells at his back, only for Jason to ignore him, stomping harder on his boots as if to make a point.
But Kon, Cassie and Bart follow him until he comes to the entrance of a room that screams “Assassin haven”
“Talia. I need the addresses of your aunts. I think one of them is named Promise, if that means anything” Jason states with faux casualness, leaning against a doorframe with his hands on his weapons, blocking the Titans from sight and from entering the room.
“My aunts? My father has no sisters” Talia’s voice, presumably, answers.
“Alright. Ra’s previous sisters then” Jason pesters and Kon can't see his expression but he can hear his tone.
He’s tense.
“Hm. And why would I do that?” Talia asks and Kon can’t see what Jason does next but Talia’s gasp he can hear.
“Because if you don’t, I’m not gonna leave any of the Al Ghul line alive tonight” Jason states and Kon tenses.
They know Jason kills. They know it well. But they hadn’t expected Jason’s retribution for Tim to be killing them.
Maybe they should have known better.
“They are in hiding. A suburb not far from Gotham. I will send you the location” Talia’s voice says, this time tense with only a hint of fear.
“Happy doing business with you, Talia” Jason says finally, turning around and allowing the Titans to see the glowing red swords in his hands. Presumably the ones he just used to threaten Talia with.
“You heard the Lady. Gotham. I’ll call if I need a ride” Jason says as he edges toward the door that Ra’s al Ghul is knocked out behind.
Kon...doesn’t feel like stopping him.
“You’re gonna kill them” Cassie says plainly.
“Yes I am” Jason states with the same tone.
The Titans leave.
They reconvene when Jason receives a message from Talia with an address. As she said, not far from Gotham. And that only makes the anger in Kon’s veins worse.
Because closer to Gotham, means closer to Tim.
And these people, Kon want far, far away from Tim. Preferably planets away.
But by the way Jason’s hands are glowing, Kon doesn’t think he needs to set up any interplanetary prisons.
They leave him to his business and when Jason comes out of the apartment with splashes of black across his uniform, he nods at them.
The Titans don’t condone killing. They don’t. They don’t kill. But sometimes, just sometimes, Kon thinks it’s OK to turn a blind eye.
And if their mentors have a problem with that, then they can take it up with the people who gave them their experiences. Their impressions. Their example.
The mentors themselves.
