Life is a long and winding road
Some days it’s as smooth as concrete
Others, its rocky and the path crumbles beneath your feet
Stopping and veering off the path sounds enticing
You don’t stop anyways.
Your favorite band is releasing new music soon, so you keep walking
You’ve never seen a shooting star before, so you keep walking
You still have to go to homecoming, so you keep on walking
Maybe one day you’ll own a cat, so you keep on walking
You’re always walking and walking and walking
A mere pause, it’s all you ask for
A small break for your aching feet is what you implore
But you don’t stop anyways
You haven’t asked for that one person’s instagram yet, so you keep walking
Your mother’s birthday is in a few weeks, so you keep walking
You’ve never experienced true love yet, so you keep on walking
Having the Queen of England outlive you seems embarrassing, so you keep on walking
You miss when you were younger
When your life was mostly filled with glee
Your shoes are worn and caked with debris
There’s a fog you can’t see through and you can’t make out the future
Again, you keep on walking
Your soulmate is out there, maybe, so you keep walking
Your friends would miss you, so you keep walking
You know your parents would be sad, so you keep on walking
Nobody is ever good at eulogies, so you keep on walking
The path is raining, windy, chock full of inclement weather
But, you can see over the horizon a bench
It has your name engraved on it
The sun shyly peeks out of the clouds
It’s something to look forward to
Alas, you keep on walking
