Chapter Text
“Hey! What are you staring at?!” Donghyuck whispers-yells at Jaemin. “You have a man! I call dibs!”
“It’s Jeno,” Jaemin whispers in reply, not turning to look at his friend. His heart feels like it’s about to beat out of his chest. Longing and confusion cloud his mind as he stares at the boy that looks like Jeno.
“Yeah, I know his name. I was saying it for dramatic effect,” Donghyuck replies.
“N-no, he’s here. Jeno is here,” Jaemin says, still reeling from shock. His eyes must be tricking him because he misses Jeno so much. That can’t be Jeno. Jeno can’t be here. Jeno is a muggle.
“There’s no way!” Donghyuck searches the great hall with wide eyes. “Wait. Just realized I don’t know what he looks like.”
“He’s-” Jaemin is about to point out the boy that looks like Jeno to Donghyuck when the headmasters dismiss them and the other students of Beauxbaton as well as Drumstrag are being ushered towards the door so they can be brought to their accommodation dorms while they are here at Hogwarts for the coming semester.
On the way out of the hall, Jaemin sees the boy that looks like Jeno talking to a boy that looks like Mark. Jaemin’s only met Mark a handful of times but the boy sitting next to “Jeno” certainly looks like Mark. This whole thing is making his head spin. Jaemin, Donghyuck, and the other Beauxbaton students are led to their quarters Thankfully Jaemin and Donghyuck are sharing a room, as always. Beauxbaton only brought students that are eligible to compete in the tournament this year meaning only sixth and seventh years as well as some fifth years for school spirit.
“This can’t be,” Jaemin says as he paces around their shared room. “Jeno’s a muggle. He’s not magic. He can’t be here at Hogwarts. It’s impossible. I’m just seeing things.”
Donghyuck is sitting on his bed watching Jaemin walk from wall to wall across their room. “Have you ever asked him?”
“What?” Jaemin asks. “No! Of course not! If you ask a muggle if they are magic they will think that you’re crazy and you will thereby expose magic to them. What kind of question was that?”
“Hey, I’m just saying,” Donghyuck frowns. “There’s no need to snap at me. Maybe it is Jeno. Maybe he’s a wizard and you never knew.”
“B-but it’s Jeno,” Jaemin says. “We tell each other everything.”
“You didn’t tell him you’re a wizard,” Donghyuck retorts.
“Well- well yeah, I can’t. It’s against the rules,” Jaemin tells him.
“If he’s a wizard too, he has the same rules,” Donghyuck replies as he lay back on his bed. “Maybe he was doing the same thing you did.”
“It was Jaemin,” Jeno says as he stares out the window of his and Mark’s shared room. “He’s here. And he’s a wizard.”
“Yeah that guy definitely looked like him,” Mark confirms.
“I don’t understand,” Jeno says. “How did this happen? I-I would have told him. I would have shared everything with him if I had known. It would have been so much easier.”
“Don’t beat yourself up about it man,” Mark tells him. “You didn’t know and you thought he was a muggle. You did the right thing. He did the right thing. It’s just unfortunate that you couldn’t find out sooner. But hey now you can be together.”
“Yeah,” Jeno says half-heartedly.
“Look,” Mark grabs a hold of Jeno’s shoulder and forces him to face him. “Tomorrow, we’ll go find that guy and confirm whether or not it really was Jaemin. Okay?”
“Okay,” Jeno nods his head.
“Then maybe he can introduce me to his cute friend,” Mark smiles.
Jeno chuckles at that, “I never thought I’d see the day that Mark Lee has a crush. The unattainable golden boy of Gryffindor. What a monumental moment.” Jeno jokes.
Mark blushes at the tease, “don’t make it sound like such a big deal.” Mark tells him with his ears burning red.
“Tomorrow,” Jaemin says as he faces the ceiling laying on his bed in the dark.
“Tomorrow what?” Donghyuck’s question is muffled by his pillow.
“Tomorrow I’m going to find that boy and know if it’s really Jeno or not.”
