Having known his husband for most of his life, there was very little that Ainosuke could do that would surprise Tadashi. Of course, much had changed over the course of the years, but Ainosuke's flair for the dramatic and adventure never ceased.
So when Tadashi entered their backyard to see Ainosuke smiling excitedly with a peacock at his side, he simply responded, "Please tell me you didn't steal that from the zoo."
Ainosuke tsked, shaking his finger. "That is a he, and his name is Ravus! King Peacock!" Ainosuke presented jazz hands around said peacock. Ravus chirped.
"Oh, my apologies, Your Majesty." Tadashi bowed to 'King Ravus.' "But back to my previous point: you didn't steal him from the zoo, did you?"
"I did not steal, I saved!" Ainosuke declared. "Poor Ravus was trapped, confined in a small enclosure, unable to fully run and stretch his magnificent plumage! I couldn't bear to let him suffer a second longer!" He took a moment, giving a heavy sigh and resting his hand on his forehead. Then he pointed the hand up with fierce determination. “So with the power of my persuasive words and a little help from my friends at the animal rescue operative, I have freed Ravus and he can roam wherever his heart desires!”
"So not theft, good," Tadashi muttered, mostly to himself.
He approached their newfound pet, eyes carefully inspecting. Ravus's body shined a deep, royal blue. His feathers consisted of emerald green with teardrops of that same blue. His dark eyes looked curiously at Tadashi, before giving another squawk.
"Aw, would you look at that? Already loves both of his new daddies!" Ainosuke gushed.
"Daddy…" Tadashi couldn't stop the small smile on his lips even if he wanted to. But he quickly composed and turned back to Ainosuke, clearing his throat. "I hope you are prepared to care for such a divine beast. It certainly won't be easy."
"Worry not, Tadashi!" Ainosuke gleamed brightly. "The animal rescue operative has the most excellent of connections, and I assure you that Ravus shall receive the finest of care! As will this little one!"
Tadashi raised his eyebrows. "Little one?"
"TA-DA! Here's Lunafreya!" Ainosuke thrust something long and gray into Tadashi's hands.
Tadashi grappled for a moment, until he was able to hold the ‘something’ securely, and realized it was a snake, of small size with smooth gray scales. Tadashi stared wide-eyed at the snake (no, Lunafreya) as she lifted her head up. Staring at Tadashi, Lunafreya gave a little hiss, wagging out her little red tongue.
Ainosuke chuckled. "And now our daughter approves."
Tadashi was sure to set Lunafreya down gently and softly before jump-embracing Ainosuke and capturing his lips in a kiss.
Later, Ainosuke would remark how much he loved that even after all this time, Tadashi was still able to joyously surprise him.
