Work Text:

It was a beautiful, late spring day. The perfect day to spend out and about in Hyrule Field with your favorite people. The boys decided it was nigh time for a break from monster hunting. Landing in this Hyrule was just the chance they needed to take some time for themselves.

You had picked a place with a good view of the lake and the surrounding field. From your shaded spot under an oak tree you could make out some of the boys. It looked like Warriors and Wind had challenged Sky and Four to a game of Cuccoo Fight in the lake. Hyrule and Legend were on the shore, possibly making bets as to which team would come out on top. Time was keeping his distance from the others trying to fish, however it seemed that Wild wanted to partake in the pastime as well but in his own way and was diving into the water and disturbing the fish.

That left only one more. You scanned the area again in search of Twilight, but you couldn’t seem to find him.

“Gottcha.” You startled when you felt the gentle push on your shoulders and the warm breath on your neck. You turned to see a sniggering Twilight who had settled in next to you.

“I thought you would be fishing with Time, or trying to keep Wild on a leash?” you asked, bumping shoulders with your companion.

“What? I can’t spend some time with my favorite girl?” You gave him a look.

“You and I both know that your favorite girl is Epona,” you deadpanned.

Twilight gave another chuckle and lifted his hands in mock defense. “You’re right, don’t tell her I said that. Don’t want her to get jealous.” You let out a little giggle and turned back towards the lake when you heard the sound of a heavy splash and raucous laughter.

‘Looks like Four managed to knock Wind in. I have to say that I’m a little impressed,” you commented.

Twilight perked up at that. “Yeah, me too. Pretty sure Wind grew up playin’ that game, and I don’t think Sky or Four have played before today. Not sure ‘bout Wars.”

You both watched as Wind got back up on Warriors’ shoulders. “They seemed to have agreed to a rematch,” you stated. Twilight only hummed in reply.

A gentle breeze blew through causing the grass to rustle and the leaves to shake. Small pieces of your hair fell into your eyes, and you moved to push them out of the way. Next to you Twilight gave a heavy yawn and a big stretch, which you returned with a subtle smirk and a look. “I thought Sky was supposed to be the sleepy one?” you jested.

Twilight returned your look with one of unamusement. “I didn’t sleep all that well last night,” he confessed. “‘M prolly just too used to sleepin’ on the road,'' he looked away from you.

Now that you were really looking at him you could see the bags under his eyes and the subtle slouch he had in his posture. You reached up behind his head and gently pulled his head down, which seemed to startle him a little. “What’re you doin’?” he asked.

“I’m trying to get you to lay down,” you gestured to your lap with your other hand.

“That’s not necessary,” he tried to pull back, but you still had him in your grip.

“You’re obviously tired, let me take care of you,” you insisted.

Twilight gave a huff, but relented. “Fine. No promises ‘bout fallin’ asleep though.” You helped guide his head down onto your lap. Once he was settled you began to gently comb your fingers through his hair. “Again, what’re you doin’?” he asked.

You startled again and tilted your head to look him in the eye, noticing the faint streak of red that tainted his cheeks. “I’m giving you a head massage. Now be quiet and go to sleep, Rancher.”

You turned your gaze back towards the lake, just in time for a gust of wind to, ironically, knock Wind again off his perch on Warriors’ shoulders. This time when he came up you could hear several expletives coming from the youngest of the group. You gave a chuckle and looked back down in your lap and found a gently snoring Twilight. Yeah, today was the perfect day for a break.
