Link stands on the balcony outside of Queen Zelda, his wife’s, bedroom. Their partner from the Twilight Realm has come to visit for the night. But she will have to go by dawn. Her name is Midna, the Twilight Princess, he chuckles, Twilight Queen.
They are of nobility while he is a lowly farmer. A rancher from Ordon, a village unheard of by most Hylians. He supposes he is grateful for that small mercy. If anything happened to Ordon, to Ilia, the kids, Rusl, or any one of the villagers he calls family, he knew he’d go to all ends to avenge them.
“Link, why do you stand out here alone?” Zelda’s sweet voice cocoons him from his anxiety. He turns to look at her. Her purple shawl is thrown over her shoulders, dirty blonde hair cascades down her back, violet-blue eyes pinched with worry. “Just thinking.” He replies and turns back to the view of the stars. “Midna is only going to be here for one night this month. We should make the most of it.” Zelda walks up to him wrapping an arm around his waist while the other holds her shawl tighter around her.
The night brings a chill, one he has grown used to from his days of travel, the only person for miles around him. Here he stands a Hero of Hyrule, and their King consort, wallowing in his grief. He should be thankful that Ganon is gone, defeated, dead, nonexistent. But a small wicked part of himself still longs for the days he traveled with his partner, Midna, across Hyrule, helping people in far away lands. He would always joke that he was a long way from home. But home was never a place it was a person or multiple people in his case.
“Thinking of your adventures?” She asks leaning into him for warmth. He wraps an arm around her waist sharing his body heat. “Not only of my adventures but… of the day Midna went back to the Twilight. She seemed so sad…”
“She didn’t want to leave us forever. We had no idea if there would be a day she would return. It was an unknowing goodbye.” Zelda placed a soft kiss to his head in understanding. Her hand gently caressing his side.
“Let us join Midna inside. I bet the bed is getting cold without us.” He let’s himself be pulled inside and to the warm bed where his Twili lover lays awaiting them. Her red hair as bright as flames is pooled around her head. She sits up and smiles at them. Link breathes in still unused to the knowledge that she is theirs.
Link lays down in front of her wrapping his arms around her and holding her close. Midna hums contently and runs a blue colored hand through his hair. “You should grow your hair out so I can braid it for you.” Midna mumbles her teasing smile setting off the flames of affection deep within his chest. He gives a quiet huff from where he has now morphed into her body. Zelda behind him gives a giggle.
It is a lovely sound he rarely hears. One he wishes he could hear all the time. Unfortunate for him the giggles come at his expense and normally created by Midna’s sassy comments. He wasn’t truly complaining if it meant he’d get to hear it over and over again. “Link was thinking-“
“Oh no that’s bad.” Midna interjects. Links chuckles and pinches her side in retaliation. “I’m just saying.”
“Anyways, he was thinking of his adventure with you.” Midna looks down at the her Hylian sized boyfriend. “You miss me that much Huh?”
“How can I not?” He whispers, “Your all I had when Twilight blanketed Hyrule. My family didn’t know I was a wolf and were terrified of me.”
“And you still hide that fact, that aspect of yourself, from them.” Zelda reminded with a cool gentle hand on his forearm. Midna shares a look with Zelda. One of worry. “Link, I’m not gone forever. I’m still with you even for short amounts of time. But I am also in your heart. There I reside safely until I return. Where I always will be.” Link made a sound of acknowledgement and blinked the tears away.
He didn’t want her to keep coming and going. “I love you so much.” He mumbled holding onto her tighter. He had to convince himself that this wasn’t a dream and Midna was there with him in that moment. He didn’t lose her. “I love you as well.” Midna replied placing a kiss to his forehead. “And I love you too Zelda.”
Zelda smiled hand coming up to cup Midna’s cheek. “My heart belongs to you both. Forever and always.” Link snorted. Elegant as always. Zelda giggled and he gave himself a mental pat on the back.
“Never forget we are here by you. We will listen to whatever you have to say. Even the dumb stuff.” Midna smiled. Link smiled into her skin. “Almost three years we’ve been together.” Zelda mumbled in thought.
“And there are many more to come.” Midna smirked ruffling Link’s hair. Link gave a groan in annoyance and went to pat it down. Midna linked their hands with a cheeky smirk. He looked up at her. Blue staring into orange. She leaned down and captured his lips with hers.
Zelda watched her lovers kiss with a fond smile. “I’ll tell them if you come along.” He said staring into Midna’s orange eyes. “Then I’ll set a date.”
He felt Zelda’s arms wrap around him silently praising him for his courage. Midna smiled and kissed the top of his head. He had no reason to fear with two strong women by his side. He would be alright.
