Where Am I?

Summary:

Who is the mysterious person that randomly appeared in the turtles' lair?

⋆°•✦•°⋆

Takes place directly after "Quirkless?".

Notes:

Note: I'm not really going to specify a time for when RotTMNT takes place, but I think I've decided it at least takes place post Season 1.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The sound of four screams echoed throughout the lair.

All four turtles scrambled back in fright, running away and hiding as fast as possible from the mysterious person who just appeared in their living room.

The mysterious person in question only blinked in confusion as he took in his surroundings, still processing what was happening. He slowly sat up, now that he had the space to do so.

“Um, hello?” he called out meekly, looking around for whoever was in the same room as him.

“Do you think he saw us?” Mikey loudly whispered out into the lair. He was hiding behind the skate ramp.

“No, I think we’re good! And dad said we can’t be stealthy,” Leo, who was hiding on the second floor, loudly whispered back.

“Well, now he clearly knows where we are because SOME TURTLES just couldn’t keep their mouths shut! Thanks a lot, guys,” Donnie said, speaking at a normal volume. The snarkiness was heard loud and clear from his voice. He was hiding behind a couch.

“Um, Mr. Alien, are you here to abduct us and take us back to your planet where you’ll experiment and probe us?” Raph asked meekly. He was hiding behind a pillar, which wasn’t doing a very good job at concealing him.

The person, who was still sitting on the floor, only looked at the voice of Raph in confusion.

“You idiot, Raph, he’s clearly human! Plus, I doubt if there was an alien invasion, the first place they would come to is our secret lair,” Donnie argued.

“Not to interrupt, but who are you? And, um, also, where am I?” the person called out, as he slowly rose from the floor, taking in his surroundings.

“We’re not telling you anything–” Donnie angrily tried to start, but was interrupted by Leo.

“Wait, backtrack, are you speaking Japanese?” he asked in confusion.

The person looked at the voice in question, “Yeah, but so are you,” he countered. Confusion was heard clearly in his voice.

Oh wait, yeah we are,” Donnie spoke, this time in English.

Leo facepalmed, “I can’t believe we didn’t even realize we switched languages!” he cried out.

Growing up, Splinter had taught the turtles Japanese, amongst the small amount of training he also did. They learned it partly from him, and the rest from the Japanese TV shows that Splinter watched. They were all fluent in it.

The person, not fully understanding what they were saying, continued from where he left off, “Why does it matter that were speaking Japanese? Aren’t we in Japan?”

Donnie had a look of confusion on his face, “What? No, we’re not in Japan. We’re in New York City. Why the heck would you think we’re in Japan?”

The person’s eyes widened in shock, then fright, “Because that’s just where I was less than ten minutes ago.” His voice echoed throughout the whole lair, as everyone went silent.

“HUH?!” four voices yelled out in shock. In their panic, they accidentally revealed themselves to the person, and well they didn’t notice it, the person didn’t seem shocked in the slightest by their appearance.

“Hold up, you’re telling me that less than ten minutes ago, you were all the way across the world in Japan? That doesn’t make any sense!” Donnie cried out.

“Maybe it was mystic magic or something?” Raph added.

The four turtles at this point were huddled together.

“What’s mystic magic?” the person curiously asked.

All four turtles turned to him before they realized that he had been starring at them this whole time.

“Wait, you’re not freaked out by our appearances?” Mikey spoke up, relaying the thought that all the turtles had.

The person titled their head in confusion, “No, why would I? Who am I to judge someone because they have a mutation. Or wait, do you look like turtles because of your quirks? On that note what would your quirks even be? I mean, you are turtles after all, but that doesn’t mean that your quirk is related to your appearance. Tokoyami after all–” the person’s mumbling was interpreted by Donnie.

“Wow, wow, slow down! Did you just say quirks? What the heck are those?” Donnie interjected.

“And whose Tokoyami?!” Mikey asked, excitement clear in his voice.

“Oh, uh, Tokoyami-kun is one of my classmates. He has the head of a bird, but his quirk is completely unrelated to that. His quirk is called Dark Shadow, and it’s a sentient being made out of shadows. Wait, do you call quirks something different here in America?” the person asked curiously.

“You know, I’m starting to think we’re not on the same page here,” Leo unhelpfully added.

Donnie rolled his eyes, “You think!” he said with his usual amount of sarcasm.

Raph snapped his fingers, “I know what’ll help! Tell me what year you think it is,” Raph asked the person.

The person nodded, seemingly agreeing with Raph’s logic, “It’s 21XX,” he said.

The turtles’ eyes widened, jaws dropping in shock.

The person looked at them nervously, “Is that not the year?” he called out weakly.

Mikey cleared his throat, “Uhh, dude, I don’t know how to break it to you, but it’s 2018.”

The person paled, looking at the turtles in concern, “I somehow ended up in the pre-quirk era?” he breathed out.

“Dude, you keep bringing up that word. What the heck is a quirk anyway?” Raph asked.

The person continued to remain pale, seemingly in shock over the information he had just learned.

Leo walked over to him, waving his hand in his face, “Hello, Mr. Broccoli Head. You still with us?” Leo asked.

He turned back towards his brothers, “Yeah, this dude is definitely unresponsive. Donnie, hit us with what you’ve got so far.”

Donnie cleared his throat, “Well, I have deduced two possibilities. One, he somehow travelled from the future. Or two, he’s from an entirely different dimension than ours. He brought up the word “quirks”, and briefly described one of his classmates supposed “quirks”. And based on that, my only logical conclusion can be that a quirk is some type of superpower or something, and he comes from an alternate universe where that’s a thing.”

The turtles looked at him in shock and slight awe.

“Wow Donnie, that’s incredible! How did you deduce that?” Raph asked.

“I didn’t. Well, not fully at least. He’s been mumbling for the last minute,” Donnie said, pointing towards the person in question, who was mumbling under his breath, coming up with his own theories.

The person’s head snapped, looking up at the turtles, who were starting to look slightly terrified by the amount of mumbling he was doing.

“Ah, sorry about that. I have a bad habit of mumbling,” he said sheepishly, his right hand rubbing the back of his head.

He shook his head, “Ah, how rude of me, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Midoriya Izuku. I’m so sorry for intruding on your home!” he said, bowing slightly.

“Not at all! So sorry you got mixed up in whatever mess you ended up in. My name is Raphael, you can just call me Raph though,” Raph added, giving Midoriya a small smile.

“Oh, me next! Hi, my name is Michelangelo, but I just go by Mikey. Super awesome to meet you!” Mikey cried out with excitement, jumping towards Midoriya.

Donnie grabbed him by the shell before he could get any closer. Mikey just continued to move in the air though, as if he was still walking. “The names Donatello, I am the cool and clearly superior brother. Feel free to call me Donnie though.”

Leo let out a snort at his remark, “Yeah right, ignore him, I’m clearly the superior and cooler brother. Leonardo, at your service. You can call me either Leo or Leon, whichever you prefer,” he said, winking at the end.

Donnie let out a small glare in Leo’s direction.

Raph cleared his throat, “So, now that we got the introductions out of the way, I think we should talk. Something is clearly going on here, and we need to figure it out in order to get Midoriya back to his timeline–er, or dimension.”

Everyone nodded their heads in agreement.

“We should sit down for this since we’re explaining both sides. This is probably going to take a while,” Donnie pointed out.

They all decided that their living room was the best choice to have this discussion. Once they were settled, they began. Donnie was the first to speak.

“So, start from the beginning.”

Notes:

Note: By popular demand, I am now officially continuing this! Like my other series’/stories, updates all depend on inspiration, and especially with this series, expect slow updates. The good news is, I actually have even more ideas than before. Hopefully, I’ll remember them because honestly, I got some interesting ones. I should probably write those down lol. On another note, I finally finished RotTMNT, and I’m so depressed that there isn’t more because it is so good!!! I’m hoping that the movie does great because maybe Netflix will pick it back up if it does 🥺 Anyway, hope you enjoyed the new addition!

Oh also, I’m not writing the bulk of the conversation that they’re having at the end. So just pretend at one point the brothers are upset that Donnie’s theory about Alternate Universes could actually be real (if you can’t remember, there was an episode where he brought it up).

And for anyone wondering, Midoriya is roughly the same height as Leo, as it's been confirmed that Leo is 5'5. Donnie is 5'3, Raph is 6', and Mikey is 4'7. This can be found on the official TMNT Instagram.
