Chapter Text
Clang.
A tiny rock hitting the trash can, then rolling down on the concrete.
Clang.
Another one following the previous, with slightly more force, making a louder noise. A faint sniff echoed through the walls, before the third rock hit the metal again.
CLANG .
The last one was so strong, it actually left a tiny dent on the metal. Y/N quietly sniffed again before she wiped her face clean from tears as she cursed under her breath.
“Fuckers” - she stood up from the ground from where she previously squatted, and
kicked the garbage can one last time before she threw her backpack on her shoulder, and left the narrow alley.
She decided some time ago that she hated this city.
She hated the crowded streets and the crowded trains, she hated the tall buildings and the dark alleys that were a lot dirtier than anyone would have liked to admit. She hated her school where she had no friends, and mostly, she hated her stupid job where everyone treated her like trash because she was just a part-timer schoolgirl there.
She also hated how boring everything was here.
Y/n sighed deeply as she leaned down to tighten the bind of her roller skates, then quickly started off to make it through the green light just in time.
***
Y/n was almost home - just three blocks away from her place when she cut through that narrow alley where she always did. If it was a bit darker she probably wouldn’t have even noticed the two shadows halfway through, talking in a low voice, and the third one obviously being cornered by them.
She unconsciously slowed down to peak for a second, but apparently she chose the worst moment to do so because one of them noticed.
“ ‘The hell are you staring at bitch” he barked, and Y/n quivered at the violence of his voice. She didn’t know what to say, or even if she should say anything, just turned away and picked up her speed again.
She wasn’t sure about what she saw, but it was definitely not good.
“ Oi, I’m talking to you” he barked at her again, and suddenly a third guy stepped out right in front of Y/n, blocking her way. She was only a few meters away from the end of the alley.
“My mate asked you a question. Did no one teach you how it’s rude to not answer?” the guy growled as he stepped even closer to Y/n, forcing her to back away. He was at least two heads taller than her, with a piercing in his eyebrow, his dark hair shaved at one side of his head.
Definitely the type of guy you wouldn’t wanna run into in a dark alley.
“I-I’m sorry. I just- I was just- g-going home” Y/n stuttered. She noticed that the other two were now also focusing on her, letting that threatened guy off. That fucking coward - letting a girl take the fall just so he can escape.
“Boss, he… he escaped” a guy said from the back, and Y/N gulped.
“You fucking idiots…” the guy right in front of her sighed, but quickly turned his attention back to Y/N “whatever… I think I found better entertainment anyway” he said as he checked her out from head to toe.
Y/N could hear the steps of the other two guys from behind as they closed in on her. Now she was completely surrounded by them with absolutely no chance for an escape.
Fucking hell. She was too scared to even glance away, but in her head she was already measuring her options.
I’m probably faster than them on my skates, so I could get away. I just need to open a way… the two behind me or the one in front of me? And how could I do that? I have never ever fought before...
Her arms and legs were shaking, and her heart was beating in her throat. Adrenaline was taking over her, and she tried her best not to panic and keep it cool although it wasn’t that easy in the given situation.
“So, how are you gonna entertain us doll ?” the one in front of Y/N - seemingly their leader - asked as he leaned so close she could feel his breath against her face. Y/N tightened her grip around the strap of her bag, as if it was some kind of lifeline she could hold on to.
“I… I really need to go home” she stuttered, her voice trembling as she was on the verge of tears. She hated it - the way she felt so weak and helpless, and the way her voice betrayed her.
“C’mon don’t be so boring babe” one from behind her pleaded.
“Yeah, play with us a bit! I promise we don’t bite~” the other joined in and grabbed Y/N’s butt as he stepped right behind her.
That was it.
In a blink of an eye, she turned around with her elbow shooting straight into the guy’s stomach, making him hunch over and fall on his knees. It wasn’t something she planned - it was her flight or fight response to the uncomfortable, sudden touch.
She stepped backwards without hesitation, making a pass next to the guy on the ground, and after a quick turn she was already on the run.
With her legs still shaking from the adrenaline and shock Y/N sped up, but made sure to knock over a trash can to block her chasers’ way, and win some time. As she glanced over her shoulder to check the distance between her and the assaulters, she pointed both of her middle fingers up, knowing she had the advantage now that she was out of their circle.
In the next second she took the corner, and made it out of the alley to the street. She still heard the yelling from behind, and got ready to pick up her pace to get away for good if it wasn’t for the two guys passing by right there.
Fuck.
Y/N quickly jumped to avoid the crash, but missed the landing and ended up on the ground.
“Hey, watch where you’re going!” the taller one yelled at her.
“Tsk” Y/N disapproved as she was getting up, but couldn’t even finish before she heard the jerks from earlier yelling after her from what sounded like an alarmingly small distance.
Fucking hell.
“There you are, on your knees just as I like it” the guy with the eyebrow piercing laughed as he caught up to her, and Y/N flinched at his words.
She felt a strong hand grabbing her arm and shaking her harshly as he growled.
I messed up. Now it’s over… it’s not like anyone’s gonna help me...
“You really thought you were getting away with hitting my boy like that? You’re gonna pay for that you fuckin-”
“Yo… the fuck are you wanna do with her?” another, deeper voice asked and when Y/N turned her head back she saw the tall guy contraining her assaulter's arm, and from his painful expression it seemed like the guy had one hell of a strong grip.
“It’s none of your damn business” the pierced guy spat the words. By this time, his two mates caught up to the scene as well but looked quite lost like they weren’t sure about what they should do. Y/N heard them whispering something about something ‘invincible’ and ‘Toman’ but they were too far for her to hear it clearly.
“Is he bothering you?” the tall one asked as he turned towards Y/N. He had blond hair shaved on the sides kept in one long braid and on his left temple a black dragon tattoo started that reached all the way down until his neck. He looked intimidating, but his deep voice was calm; gentle even when he spoke to her.
“It’s none of your fucking business you-” the pierced guy snapped, but the blond one silenced him by strengthening his grip around the other’s arm, making him wince in pain.
“I wasn’t talking to you dipshit ” he growled, then turned back to Y/N again with the calm tone “so, is he bothering you?”
Y/N just nodded quietly, which seemed to be enough of an answer.
The blond guy loosened his grip, and the second the pierced guy turned towards him with his fist raised, he punched him right in the face, knocking him down on the ground with just one hit.
Blood.
Y/N took a step back, but her legs were too shaky and she ended up falling back and sitting on the ground still staring at the events unfolding right in front of her. The dark haired guy was laying right in front of her, blood pouring down on his hand he was covering his - most likely broken - nose with.
“Don’t just stand there, do something you fuckers!” he commanded in a choked voice, and the two from the back stepped in the fight as well.
Y/N only now noticed the other, much shorter guy beside the tattooed one. His hair was blond as well, reaching down to his shoulders with the top section tied back in a small ponytail . Overall he seemed… harmless - the complete opposite of his friend with the intimidating aura.
He just stood on the sidelines and didn’t even lift his pinky, which seemed weird at first but within seconds Y/N understood why.
It’s not that he didn’t want to help - He didn’t need to.
His friend easily dealt with the three assaulters on his own and within minutes all three of them were on the ground, groaning in pain.
“Now get up and get out of my sight” the tall guy ordered in a threatening voice. All three of them were on their feet in seconds, already fleeing the scene “Next time you won’t get away so easily” he yelled after them finally.
“God… ambushing a girl three on one… fucking cowards” he muttered under his breath.
“Hey, ‘you alright?” he now turned towards Y/N, who was still sitting on the concrete in shock. She flinched at his deep, strong voice even though his words were caring.
“You’re scaring her, Ken-chin” the shorter guy said as he finally stepped closer, and stood right in front of Y/N.
“Told you to stop calling me that in front of others” the taller one complained, but his friend seemingly ignored it.
He stared at Y/N for a few moments, but she couldn’t read anything from his blank expression.
“Can you stand up?” he asked eventually, and offered a hand to help her up.
“Yeah… I guess” Y/N said as she took his hand, and allowed him to pull her up.
“Who the hell were those jerks anyway?” the taller one - apparently Ken-chin - asked.
Y/N just shook her head.
“No idea. I was just passing by when they started yelling at me. I wanted to leave but they surrounded me and then…” the feeling of his hand on her ass was still there, and it made Y/N nauseous “I hit one of them with my elbow to get away, but then I almost crashed into you two… I’m sorry about that”
“Don’t stress it” the tall one shrugged.
The shorter one was still staring at her face from quite close, and Y/N started to feel a little uncomfortable.
“Have we met somewhere before?” he asked suddenly, and tilted his head a little to the left which made him look like a puppy.
“I don’t know… have we?” Y/n asked back, trying to seem as unbothered as she could. She was still confused and in quite the shock, but did her best to play it cool.
“Hm…” the shorter one seemed to be deep in thought for a moment, before stepping back and nodding towards Y/N’s knees. “Are you okay? You’re bleeding”
“What?” Y/N asked as she looked down, and discovered two massive scratches - one on each of her knees. It looked pretty bad with blood dripping down on her skates, and purple-blue bruises already blooming on her kneecaps. “Shit!” she cursed under her breath. She didn’t even feel them until now, probably due to the adrenaline in her system. My boss is gonna kill me if I show up to work like this again.
“It’s okay, I’m good. Been through worse, really” Y/N said with a reassuring smile “I didn’t even notice them”
“Do you live far? We’re walking you home” The tall guy said.
“It’s okay, I live three blocks from here, I can manage. But thanks for the offer” Y/N declined, already feeling a bit of guilt for causing them so much trouble.
Most people wouldn’t even stop to get help, let alone stepping in and protecting her. Still, Y/N wasn’t naive enough to give out her address to two strangers she just met.
“It wasn’t an offer. I said we’re walking you home” the tall one stated “So, which way is it?”
