Work Text:
The bell from Kunugigaoka’s main campus rang, officially ending the school day and allowing the students to go home. Although the building was far away from the mountain, that didn’t stop certain students and their teacher from hearing it.
“Alright class, that’s it for today. Pack up your things and enjoy the rest of the afternoon. If anyone wants to assassinate me, feel free to give my cell a ring and I’ll try to make your assassination attempt fit into my schedule”
On top of a nearby mountain stood a decent sized wooden classroom filled with low-ranking students, and a perverted yellow octopus, who they call their teacher.
While the other students went into groups to make after school hangout plans, Nagisa was left alone when both Kayano and Sugino left with a small group of students to head to a nearby arcade.
Nagisa was about to leave the room when he felt a hand place itself on his shoulder.
“Hey Nagisa”
Nagisa didn’t need to turn around to see who the person was. The voice itself, which he could recognize from anywhere, made it obvious that it was Karma.
“What is it, Karma?” He asked, turning around to meet the redhead’s gaze.
Karma had a proud smirk on his face as he brought up his hand in front of Nagisa, which held a familiar, but somehow different comic book.
Nagisa’s eyes went wide, grabbing the comic book from Karma’s hand, who watched in content as his friend excitedly flipped through the pages of the latest ‘Sonic Ninja’ release.
“I heard they made a movie of this”
Nagisa’s head shot up, staring directly at Karma with a hopeful look in his eyes, making it obvious that he wanted to see it. And frankly, Karma did too. That was the entire point of showing him the comic book in the first place.
“When does it come out?”
“Worldwide, not sure. But there is a blockbuster premiere at Hawaii later tonight”
Nagisa was about to voice out a complaint when he noticed Isogai, Maehara, Kataoka, and Nakamura crowding around their teacher.
“I wonder what they’re talking about”
Karma raised his brow and turned to the direction where Nagisa was staring at. His eyes narrowed with slight confusion and shock when he noticed their teacher holding the same comic book he had given to Nagisa. And by the looks of it, he was planning to use his flight and speed to his advantage by flying to Hawaii to see the movie tonight.
An idea popped into Karma’s head, prompting a smirk to appear with it. “You up for flying at mach 20 to Hawaii?”
Nagisa turned to Karma with a ‘seriously?’ expression. Considering how dangerous it sounded to fly at mach 20, he wanted to say ‘no’. But after remembering the lengths his teacher went through to save Karma during his failed assassination attempt, a part of him wanted to re-consider.
Karma, reading Nagisa’s thoughts, let out a sigh before placing his hand on his shoulder, giving him a gentle squeeze. “You know, if you don’t wanna go, it’s completely understandable and fine. We can see the movie when it comes out worldwide, ‘kay?”
Nagisa didn’t respond, but slightly nodded. He looked up at Koro-sensei and down at the comic book, before looking back at Karma.
He shook his head. “You know what, let’s do it”
“Are you sure?” Karma was hesitant on how quick Nagisa changed his decision. “If you’re just saying that ‘cause I want to go then-”
“No” Nagisa shook his head, looking directly into Karma’s eyes. “I’m serious. Let’s go to Hawaii” A faint smile appeared on his face. It was a type of smile that you wouldn’t normally notice, unless you were extremely close to the person’s face and looking for a change in their expression, like Karma.
He took a moment to think about Nagisa’s answer, but stopped when he realized that he was being genuine. Nodding, he smiled back at Nagisa. “If you say so. Let’s go”
“Okie dokie then, I’d best be on my way. I can’t be late for this important event! Goodbye for now my dear students” Before anyone could bid their farewells, the teacher they were talking to mere seconds ago suddenly disappeared, leaving behind a strong gust of wind to the students near him.
“Come on, let’s go. It’d be a shame if we got left behind by our only ticket to Hawaii”
“Right!”
With that, the pair quickly took off, running after their teacher as fast as they could so they wouldn’t get left behind. By the time they exited the wooden building, Koro-sensei was already preparing to take off.
“Koro-sensei! Wait up!”
“Eh?” Koro-sensei looked behind him to see two of his students running towards him. Since Karma and Nagisa were the ones calling for him, he was quick to assume that they were planning to pull off an assassination attempt on him before he left. However, that thought was quickly dismissed when he saw a Sonic Ninja comic book in Nagisa’s hand.
“Koro-sensei!” Nagisa called, obviously out of breath. “We wanna come with you, please?” The bluenette pleaded, holding out the comic book in front of him.
“Oh-ho! Fans of the franchise?” Koro-sensei let out an amused giggle as he turned to the pair.
“Oh yeah! We’ve been waiting for the sequel for like, ever!”
Koro-sensei was shocked by Nagisa’s statement. “We? I’m a little surprised that you’re into comic books Karma”
“It’s actually not my thing, but I’ve read all the issues during my first and second year” He admitted, bringing his left hand towards his hair and fidgeting with a couple strands with his fingers. “I really dig the director though. It’s his first genre film”
“I’d like to come too! If you don’t mind”
A high-pitched voice erupted from Nagisa’s phone, causing everyone’s attention to divert towards it. Nagisa took out the device from the pocket on his blouse to see Ritsu, who was somehow able to download herself inside his phone.
“Ehehe, I hope I’m not bothering you”
“Um, no offense Ritsu, but what are you doing, in my phone?”
“I took the liberty of uploading myself into everyone’s mobile devices. This way, communication between students is streamlined, and not to mention, I’m fun sized! This version of me is called ‘Mobile Ritsu’!”
Ritsu flashed a small smile before doing a salute.
“If it’s not too much of a trouble, I’d love to know what it’s like soaring through the air at mach 20! I can even take high-quality images that might help us in Koro-sensei’s assassination!”
“Well then children, let’s go to the movies! Brace yourselves for a flight through the stratosphere at supersonic speed!” With a quick flash of black, Karma and Nagisa found themselves inside Koro-sensei’s uniform. It was almost as if Koro-sensei had a pouch embedded into his uniform, similar tot he pouches female kangaroos had on their bodies.
“Okay, I know we asked him for a trip, but I’m kinda having second thoughts. What did we just sign up for? Come to think of it, can we even handle the speed of mach 20?” Nagisa asked, turning to Karma, who was somehow able to keep his cool.
“Yeah, well, if we survive, maybe next time we’ll think about safety first” Despite being in the same situation, Karma looked like he wasn’t bothered by what was going on, while Nagisa on the other hand looked completely terrified. Karma could compare him to a scared little hamster.
“Oh now, don’t be afraid. I’ll accelerate gently as to not shock your systems” With that, Koro-sensei launched up into the air at full speed, causing the pair to scream in both fear, and excitement.
“Haha, wow! Check it out Nagisa! The Pacific ocean!”
Nagisa looked down to see endless groups of blue waves wash through below them. He had to admit, although flying with an octopus who was going to destroy the Earth at mach 20 sounded scary, in reality, it was actually pretty cool.
“I’m surprised there’s not more wind considering how fast we’re flying right now. Is it because you’re using your head to deflect most of it?”
“Excellent powers of observation Nagisa. The secret you see is my aerodynamic skin! Normally, my head is soft and squishy. When exposed to high pressure, however, it hardens like a shell. That’s how I can withstand the effects of mach 20 speed. Did you know something very much like my skin plays a role in your day-to-day lives?”
Without explanation, Koro-sensei’s tentacles brough up various items from their chemistry lab back at the mountain.
“Where did he even get those?”
“Wait, is he giving us a lecture mid flight??” Nagisa was somehow both confused, and amazed at the same time.
“This could be your best chance to assassinate him Karma” Ritsu spoke up. “He’s distracted juggling two things at once. He’s completely off guard”
“Yeah, except I don’t wanna die. We’re over open water at the speed of sound. I don’t think physics could support that plan. Falling from this height straight down on water would just kill us. Koro-sensei has us right where he wants us. We’ve got no choice but to listen and learn”
Nagisa couldn’t help but giggle at Karma’s annoyance. He found it amusing on how their target was the only thing keeping them alive at this moment.
By the time they arrived at Hawaii, night had already fallen on the island, and the movie was only a few minutes before starting.
“And that’s how bulletproof vests are manufactured, utilizing the fascinating science behind dilatancy” Koro-sensei ended the lesson by gently dropping Karma and Nagisa onto the ground. “I’ve made you that much smarter in the takes it takes to catch Sonic Ninja!”
The pair turned to look at their teacher, to see him change his color into a light peach tone, while putting on a black wig, and a fake nose that Sugaya had made for him.
“I’ll be right back!” Koro-sensei excused himself before disappearing into the crowd to buy the three of them movie tickets.
While he was gone, Nagisa directed his attention towards the open beach in front of them. “I can’t believe we’re actually in Hawaii, and we know what dilatancy is too. This honestly feels like a fever dream”
“Everything about our class feels like a dream” Karma stood next to the bluenette, shoving his hands into his pockets before leaning his back against the railing on the bridge.
“Yeah, but when he does favors like this for us, it makes it hard to belive that he actually wants to explode the Earth. I mean, if I were an octopus, alien, creature thing who could move at mach 20, teaching a group of students who people consider failures wouldn’t be something that would cross my mind”
“I get you” Karma didn’t want to admit it, but he was actually starting to grow fond of his teacher. “Come to think of it, that octopus knows almost everything about us, while we barely know anything about him”
“What if he doesn’t want to tell us about his past because he thinks it would change the way we look at him?”
Karma looked down at the smaller boy, who intentionally didn’t meet his gaze. “What a cliché”
Nagisa didn’t respond, but nodded at Karma’s comment. Without saying a word, Nagisa inched closer to Karma, resting his head against the side of his arm. Karma placed his hand on the bluenette’s head before patting it slightly.
The moment was interrupted when Koro-sensei came back, holding three tickets for each of them. “I hope I’m not ruining anything nyufufufufu... Anyways, let’s go children!” He exclaimed, forcing in a squeal as he led the pair inside the mall.
The three of them passed through a few stores before finally arriving at the movie theater.
“Man, it’s freezing in here” Karma said, despite being the only one who was wearing a blazer.
“It’s an island thing. They’re all about cranking the AC. Let’s bundle you up so no one catches pneumonia” Out of nowhere, Koro-sensei brought our two blankets before handing them to his students. “Here”
Karma looked at the blanket with a weirded out expression. The blanket was pink and had a lighter shade of pink hearts with Koro-sensei’s face inside them. Karma glanced at the blanket Nagisa had, which was just a plain bubblegum pink one.
Still, Karma grabbed the blanket from Nagisa’s hands and wrapped his blanket around him. Nagisa gave him a slightly confused, but genuine smile, which he returned.
“This is so cool! I’ve never been to a movie theater!” Ritsu exclaimed, now wearing a bright peach jacket with white fluffy linings.
“Hey, don’t they cut out a bunch of stuff for distribution overseas? Are we getting the real deal here?”
“Where’s your sense of adventure Nagisa? It shouldn’t be all that different from what we see at home once it comes out over there. And if it is, so much the better! It’ll be like seeing the same artwork from different angles” Koro-sensei reached out two tentacles towards the pair.
“Here, my tentacles can be used as earphones. I’ll offer a running commentary as we watch just in case a different version of dialogue appears in the film” Koro-sensei brought out two buckets of popcorn and two cups of soda, handing them over to his students.
“Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!”
》──────✧❅✦❅✧──────《
“What a cliffhanger! They really know what they’re doing. I’ll go nuts waiting for the next installment!” Nagisa had a pleasant smile on his face as he turned to Karma. It was obvious that Nagisa enjoyed the movie a lot more than he did.
“I don’t know” The redhead shrugged. “I feel like the film maker gave up when he made the bad guy the brother”
“Oh” Nagisa couldn’t hide his disappointment at Karma’s reaction. “I guess we have different taste in movies then”
“If you want to know how the series ends, I can calculate it. I’ll just make an algorithm of every movie that was ever made. Give me a couple minutes”
“Nah, I’m good, thanks. Between the two of you, wow” Hoping for a better review, Nagisa turned to his teacher to ask him of what he thought, only to see him crying his eyes out in front of them.
“Long lost siblings, can you imagine?? Merciful habits, how cruel fate can be!” Koro-sensei wiped the endless amounts of tears with a white piece of cloth.
Koro-sensei’s weakness number thirteen, he cries at cliché movies…
“Well, what do you know? Guess it really got to him. Damn, my bad”
“He’s been sobbing like that all the way home from Hawaii…”
“Thank you for taking us with you Koro-sensei” Nagisa lowered his head, acting out a formal bow.
“G’night teach” While Nagisa was being polite and formal, Karma was still on his carefree attitude, despite being given a free trip to Hawaii just to see a movie.
“Yes, yes, goodnight children. Be careful on the way home. Oh, and I’d like you to write a detailed synopsis of the film in your own words for class tomorrow”
“Woah! You’re giving us homework??” Nagisa turned to face his teacher with an accusing look on his face.
“Come on, it’s a small price to pay for a free trip to Hawaii! I’ll be on my way now, I have a math appointment at Mimura’s place. Be careful!” With that, the octopus waved three of his tentacles at the pair before setting off to the sky, leaving Karma and Nagisa alone in front of their classroom, with Ritsu, of course.
The pair trudged down the mountain, using their phones as flashlights so they wouldn’t trip. At one point, Nagisa tripped over a thick vine on the ground, causing him to almost fall on his face if it weren’t for Karma, who caught him before he hit the ground. For the rest of their trip down, Nagisa held Karma’s wrist just in case he slipped again.
An uncomfortable silence enveloped the air as the two of them made their way home. Nagisa was stuck inside his own head, which kept repeating the events that took place that day. Until now, he still couldn’t believe that he had made it to Hawaii without his mom knowing. He lowered his head and let out a slight sigh, causing Karma’s attention to focus on him.
“What’s up? Something on your mind?” Knowing the type of person Nagisa was, Karma already knew the answer. And something at the back of his mind was telling him exactly what Nagisa was thinking about.
“Today’s just been a pretty eventful day, that’s all. Like, we flew to Hawaii at mach 20 while being given a lecture on natural science over the Pacific ocean. If we told anyone about that, no one would believe us because of how weird it sounds”
“We live a weird life. All of us in class 3-E do. I mean, we have a literal octopus as our homeroom teacher”
“Not to mention, an official government agent and a professional assassin as our English and P.E teachers”
“You know, personally, my favorite part of the whole experience was watching Koro-sensei protect you. I’ve never seen anything like it. Did you realize he was using his tentacles to fend off dust particles and debris?”
“When you think about it, we saw the world through Koro-sensei’s eyes today…” Nagisa suddenly stopped, thinking if he should continue what he was planning to say.
Karma turned to him and hummed in response, silently urging him to continue.
“It’s just, the more we get to know the guy, the more I feel like his everyday life is something even he can’t comprehend. It’s like we’re standing to understand him a little more, you know?”
“I can’t really disagree with that, can’t I?”
“I guess not” Ritsu giggled, changing into pajamas.
Karma took out his phone to check the time, only to realize that it was still pretty early. “Hey Nagisa, I’m hungry. You wanna eat out somewhere?”
Nagisa was caught off guard at Karma’s suggestion, which was why he suddenly stopped walking to stare at him. The last time Karma had invited him to eat out somewhere was during their first year at school together.
“You good?”
“Oh, yeah, well I…” Nagisa could feel his cheeks heat up as he struggled to form a proper sentence.
“If you’re worried about your mom getting mad at you for being out, I’ll remind you it’s only eight o’clock. And if I remember correctly, your curfew’s at eleven”
If Nagisa wasn’t already blushing, he sure was now.
He remembered?
“I-it’s not that” Completely flustered, the bluenette lowered his head and stared at the ground in an attempt to hide his face from Karma. “I don’t have a lot of money to spend. My mom barely gives me any”
“So?” Karma already knew about that. Considering how strict Hiromi was with Nagisa, money was something Karma knew she didn’t provide her son enough with. “My treat. Let’s go” The redhead took out his wallet and tossed it up and down.
Nagisa’s head shot up. “Wha- eh?? Are you sure??”
“I am. Come on, I’m starving”
Nagisa ran towards Karma to occupy the empty spot beside him. “I won’t cost you too much. I promise”
“Just pick whatever you want okay? The price doesn’t really matter”
“If you say so…”
》──────✧❅✦❅✧──────《
“Amongst all the restaurants nearby, the one in front of you has the highest customer ratings. Not to mention, most of the reviews states that the quality of the food here is one of the best. Judging by the menu, I can confirm that with the wide range of my database”
“Thanks Ritsu” Karma shoved his phone back into his pocket before opening the glass door, gesturing for Nagisa to enter. He wanted to make a lame ‘ladies first’ joke, but considering how Nagisa’s mom treats him, he quickly decided against it.
As soon as both of them stepped foot into the restaurant, a bell above them rang, alerting the staff members of their arrival.
Seconds later, a server came up from the front desk and greeted both of them with a smile. “Good evening! Welcome to Dynasty Diners. Someone will assist you in a few minutes” She said, guiding both of them towards an empty table.
Karma picked up one of the menus on their table and scanned through the options, while Nagisa looked around the entire room, admiring everything from the furniture to the little touches of color in the decorations. He now understood why this place had the highest ratings, at least, according to Ritsu.
“So, what do you want?” Karma asked, turning to the smaller boy, who sat across from him. Nagisa seemed completely out of it. It was either his brain suddenly shut down, or he was deep inside his own world.
Karma couldn’t help but smile in his direction. Using the opportunity to his advantage, he swiftly brought out his phone and snapped a quick picture of Nagisa while the boy wasn’t looking.
Nagisa somehow sensed that Karma was looking at him, which caused a strained cough to escape his mouth. “Sorry, what did you ask me earlier?” He asked, meeting the redhead’s gaze.
“I was asking you what you wanted to eat” Karma pointed towards the menu in front of Nagisa, who glanced at it before picking it up.
Nagisa’s eyes tried to look for the cheapest dish there, but to his dismay, everything the restaurant served was too expensive for him. Even if he added up the allowance he would get for the month, it would only add up to a small portion of the total price. That was, of course, if he even got any extra cash. Knowing his mom, he already knew the answer.
“Um, Karma?”
“Yeah? What’s wrong?”
“Everything’s too expensive” Nagisa felt stupid for telling the redhead something he already knew, and was used to. Since Karma’s parents were in a different state, they always stuff excessive amounts of money into Karma’s bank account. “Well, for me, at least…”
“Relax. I told you I’d be paying for both of us, remember?”
“Yeah but-”
“No buts Nagisa. Just tell me what you want to eat. Ignore the prices”
Nagisa let out a sigh. Karma was similar to Kayano. Once he's set his mind onto something, it was almost impossible to make him reconsider. Hence, arguing with him about something would be pointless.
“Fine… I’ll have the sushi a guess…”
Karma nodded, raising his hand to gain the attention of a nearby waitress.
“Hi, what would you like to order?” She asked, taking out a notepad and a pen to write down their orders.
“We’ll have an order of sushi, and an order of yakitori” Karma flipped the menu towards Nagisa, pointing at the sample picture of the tempura.
“Want some?”
“If it’s not a bother for you, sure”
“We’ll have an order of tempura too”
The girl nodded. “Is that all?”
Karma turned to Nagisa, silently asking him if he wanted something else. When Nagisa shook his head, Karma turned back to the waitress. “That’s all. Thank you”
“I sometimes can’t believe you Karma”
The redhead hummed a reply. “What do you mean?”
“This place is crazy expensive”
“So?”
Nagisa let out another sigh, resting his head on his arms, which were resting on the table. “I guess what I’m trying to say is that… I’m jealous of you. Honestly”
Karma raised a brow, lowering his head on the table to meet Nagisa’s gaze. “What? Why?”
“I mean, you’re pretty much better than me in every way possible. You’re smarter than me, you’re a lot more popular than me, you’re richer tan me, you’re a better fighter than me, do I even have to continue?” The bluenette broke eye contact to look out the window next to him. “It makes me wonder why you even approached me in the first place”
“Tch, why not? You are pretty cool, you know. Plus, everyone else was just too boring to be around”
“Ha, me? Cool? Sure, coming from you”
“Have some more confidence in yourself Nagisa. If you were actually as bad as you thought you were, then we wouldn’t be here in the first place”
“Well, I guess there’s some truth into that…”
Karma lifted his head from the table and threw a stray tissue at Nagisa’s face before reaching out to pat his head. “Alright, that’s enough with the sappy talk. Any more if this and I’m going to puke”
Nagisa couldn’t help but laugh at Karma’s statement. “Geez, you really know how to ruin a moment, don’t you, Karma?” He asked, earning a shrug, followed by a chuckle from the boy in front of him.
Nagisa flashed a smile at Karma’s direction as his eyes returned to the scenery outside the window. Since it was already night time, most of the people in their town were already locked in inside their houses. Nagisa looked back at Karma, who was minding his own business, scrolling aimlessly on his phone.
Although Nagisa probably wouldn’t say it out loud in fear of embarrassment, he had to admit that he had missed hanging out with Karma. Of course he had Kayano and Sugino, but being around Karma just made him feel different. Karma knew him more than anyone else. Sometimes, he even wonders if the redhead knew him more than he knew himself.
Sure, Karma was undeniably a sadistic piece of shit who finds amusement in beating up random delinquents. But for Nagisa, Karma was someone he felt safe with. Someone who he could be himself without being made fun of. It didn’t matter what others thought about him, because in all honesty, Nagisa wouldn’t have him any other way.
》──────✧❅✦❅✧──────《
By the time Nagisa and Karma had finished dinner, most of the diners had already left, and the restaurant was nearly empty. Before they asked for the bill, Nagisa requested to have an ice cream sundae for dessert. He was hesitant to ask since he felt like he was just using Karma for his money, but the redhead was quick to reassure him that it was completely fine.
Still, when the bill arrived at their table, Nagisa almost fainted on how much money Karma had to pay for their dinner. It made Nagisa feel horrible for wanting a sundae, since it added to what Karma had to play.
“Just take it Karma, please” Nagisa shoved his pocket money into Karma’s hands, who refused to take it. “Come on, just-”
“Nagisa, it’s fine. You don’t have to pay me anything”
“But-”
“Nagisa” Karma repeated, placing one of his hands on top of Nagisa’s. “I’m serious. Keep your pocket money and save up for a, I don’t know, a phone? Whatever, just keep it alright? I offered to pay, so you don’t owe me anything”
Nagisa’s face began to heat up. Since Karma’s hand was on his, the bluenette’s left hand was practically a statue. “F-fine”
Satisfied, Karma lifted his hand from Nagisa’s, giving him back his money, before standing up. “I’m gonna head to the bathroom real quick. We can leave after”
Nagisa nodded as Karma left to go look for the restroom.
“Not to be a nosey classmate, but how was your date?”
Nagisa flinched when Ritsu’s voice suddenly rang out from his phone, reminding him of her presence. “It wasn’t a date Ritsu” He stated, taking the device out of his pocket to look at her. “We used to always eat out like this when we were still in our first year”
“Oh, so you two went on dates before?”
“What?? That’s not what I meant Ritsu!” Nagisa’s face was now a bright shade of pink, which only fueled his classmate’s fire, causing her to burst out into a fit of laughter. “You’re doing this on purpose aren’t you?!”
“Hey princess”
Nagisa’s body immediately tensed up at the sudden nickname. He turned to look at where the voice came from, only to see four high school students surrounding the table. Judging by their uniforms, the Nagisa could tell that the students were from Kaisei Academy, which was one of Kunugigaoka’s rival schools.
This can’t be good…
“Um, can I help you?” Nagisa felt four hard gazes directed at him, which only made him a lot more uncomfortable. “C-can you stop staring at me?”
“Why not?” One of them asked, forcing himself onto the empty set next to the bluenette. “What’s a cute girl like you doing in a fancy restaurant like this all alone?”
“I’m not a-”
“Shh” Nagisa’s body trembled when he felt an arm wrap around his waist. “You don’t have to lie blueberry. My name’s Tanaki. You won’t have to be alone anymore” He smirked, pressing his face against Nagisa’s neck.
Nagisa almost wanted to glare at them, if it weren’t for the size and number comparison. Before he was cut off, he was about to tell them that he wasn’t a girl. But of course, the idiot misinterpreted it as an excuse for him lying about not being alone.
Tanaki untied both of Nagisa’s pigtails and ran his fingers through the bluenette’s hair. “Mm, your hair is so soft… I’m sure we can show you a good time. Why don’t you come home with us?” Nagisa stayed silent, too scared to even say anything.
Of course these creeps appear the second Karma leaves for the bathroom. What does the universe have against me?
To his luck, the guy who was sitting next to him was suddenly pulled away from him and shoved to the ground. The other three were quick to come to their leader’s aid, while the person responsible towered over the four of them.
“Why don’t the four of you fuck off?”
The four students, along with Nagisa, turned to their side to see Karma, who looked ready to murder them. If looks could kill, the four Kaisei Academy students would have already been dead.
“And who do you think you are to boss us around?” Tanaki stood up, entering Karma’s personal space in an attempt to intimidate him. Unfortunately for the brunette, Karma was an inch taller than him and looked a lot more intimidating than he did.
Tanaki turned to his classmates. “You three, grab the girl and go. I’ll deal with-”
“Oh I don’t think so asshole”
Before Tanaki could even finish his sentence, Karma grabbed him by the hair and slammed his head onto the wooden table with full force, knocking him unconscious.
Karma turned to the other three with a glare, instead of a sadistic smirk, which startled even Nagisa. “Now, which one of you wants a bottle smashed on their head and a year long coma?”
“Hey!” The server at the front desk yelled out. “What’s going on over there?!”
“Tch” The redhead bent down, picking up one of Nagisa’s hair ties before grabbing his wrist and dragging him out of the restaurant, ignoring the server’s questions and the students’ death threats.
Nagisa had no idea where Karma was taking him, but his attention was still focused on the students as he kept checking behind him, just in case they were following them.
Once they were out of sight, Nagisa let out a sigh of relief as he leaned against the brick wall. “I never felt so scared before, at least, not in a long time…” He muttered, letting out a shaky breath.
“Damn bastards” Karma hissed, letting go of Nagisa’s wrist. “Sorry I left you. Are you okay?”
Nagisa was caught off guard by the sudden change in Karma’s tone. For once, Nagisa could consider Karma’s voice as gentle and caring.
“Y-yeah” He stuttered, for what seemed like the hundredth time. He had always hated how he couldn’t talk normally whenever he was flustered. Most of his classmates back in class D made fun of him for it, but for some reason, Karma, who was usually the one to hear Nagisa's stutter, never complained about it once.
Karma let out a slight sigh as he gently spun Nagisa around, hesitating if he should touch his hair or not. Clearing his throat, he placed both of his hands on Nagisa’s shoulders. “Um, can I fix it? Your hair, I mean”
Nagisa took a bit of time to respond. Not being entirely sure, he slightly nodded his head, muttering a soft “I guess so…”
Nodding, Karma brought the hair tie up to his wrist and pulled back the bluenette’s hair into a low bun, imitating what Nakamura did with her hair during P.E, while being extremely careful so he wouldn’t accidentally pull too hard on his hair.
“You look adorable Nagisa!”
Ritsu exclaimed, opening Nagisa’s camera app to show him what he looked like. Although he didn’t enjoy having long hair, he had to admit that he looked decent in a bun. This was enough to put a genuine smile back on his face, almost as if the incident earlier had never even happened.
“We should head home before the four of them find us. I’m not really in the mood to deal with half-brained assholes” Karma looked down, reaching his hand out towards Nagisa. “Come on, I’ll walk you home just in case”
Nagisa glanced at Karma’s hand, taking it with a bit of hesitance. Karma lifted his head and interlocked their fingers, slightly pulling the bluenette next to him.
“Right” Nagisa nodded, smiling at him. “Let’s go”
》──────✧❅✦❅✧──────《
“We’re here” Nagisa said as the two of them stood in front of a fairly large apartment complex. “We didn’t get into trouble on our way here, so you didn’t have to walk me home, but I really appreciate it. I definitely felt a lot safer with you with me”
“Maybe we didn’t get into trouble because I was escorting you. You never know” Karma titled his head, smirking down at the smaller boy. “Plus, after that incident earlier, there’s no way I’m going to fall asleep later tonight without worrying if you actually got home or not”
Nagisa raised an amused brow. “You worry about me?”
Karma felt his cheeks slightly heat up, but since they were surrounded by darkness, Nagisa wasn’t really able to tell. “Shut up. It’s reasonable”
Nagisa let out a small chuckle before turning back to the building. “Anyway, I should get going now, same thing with you” He said, letting go of Karma’s hand, despite secretly not wanting to.
“Right, right” The redhead nodded, turning towards the path behind him. “Night Nagisa”
“Night Karma! Oh, and before I forget”
Karma stopped walking and turned back to face the bluenette. “What is it?”
“I just wanted to thank you… for inviting me to the movies, for taking me out to dinner, for standing up for me earlier, and for walking me home tonight. I really appreciate it Karma… Thank you”
Karma couldn’t help but smile at what Nagisa had said. “It was nothing. Don’t worry about it”
“Well, for me, it was everything. Thank you, again… Goodnight” This time, Nagisa was the one who turned away. Right before he entered the apartment complex, he heard Karma say something else.
“Hey, if you’re ever in trouble or something, feel free to either call me, or crash at my place. You know where I live after all. You’re always welcome there Nagi”
Nagisa felt his heart flutter when Karma addressed him by the old nickname he used to call him back when they were in their first year. “O-of course. Thank you, Karma”
“Anytime”
Both of them waved farewell to each other for the last time, before officially separating to head back into their own houses.
Nearby, on top of a certain tree, if you used a flashlight, you’d be able to see an ex-yellow octopus, who now matched the color of sakura blossoms.
“Ah, young love” Koro-sensei whispered, taking out a pen and a notepad as he tried not to squeal in excitement. “How beautiful~”
