Work Text:

Red Hood was on the hunt, like a wolf after his prey.

Marinette breathed in deep, her mind racing as she tried accessing her situation.

He kept calling her Little Red, yet opening mocked the previous Robin, insisting he wasn’t referring to Nightwing which didn’t seem right as practically nobody knew outside of the team that there’s been more than one Robin, though some did figure out there needed to be at least two given the fact Robin would have eventually aged out of the role.

Eventually.

A sound made her turn and she blacked out.

...

Marinette’s eyes flickered open, looking at the roof of a small cabin, but she sat up when her mother said something about taking baked goods to her grandfather. “Okay.”

Looking in the mirror, she saw herself dressed in a red hood, her mind thinking something wasn’t right, that this wasn’t reality, yet she went along with it, heading to her grandfather’s place, passing past Chinese lanterns which lit up as she passed them by until she got to her grandfather’s home which reminded her someone’s massage shop which seemed like a strange thought—

She slid the door open, screaming when she saw the wolf in a red mask—a red mask like Red Hood’s, but a dead Robin hung from the wolf’s mouth.

...

“LB. Hey, LB, wake up!”

Marinette startled, finding herself looking into Nightwing’s eyes as he held onto her shoulders. Her mouth opened.

“No need to talk. You hit your head and...”

“It’s him,” Marinette gasped out. “Red Hood is...”

“I know. I know that already.”

She felt like crying, biting down on her lip remembering when she and the Robin which came between her and the next were friends. The feelings she felt about him being alive were tainted. “How can you be okay with that?”

“I’m not. I’ve not given up on him. Didn’t want to worry you.”

She watched Nightwing stand up. Marinette looked at her hands, worrying her lip as she thought about what Red Hood said, about how the previous Robin was a failure. “Except, you weren’t. I certainly didn’t think so.”
