Work Text:
Saiko Metori walked over to one of the lunch tables, the smell of money practically oozing off of him. Most likely because of his custom money-scented cologne that he had ordered. Just one more way of rubbing his wealth in poor peoples' faces.
As he approached the table, the conversation immediately halted. He smirked.
"What are you commoners talking about?"
His smug query was met with nothing but a tense silence. Exactly what he expected. Amused, he continued.
"Normally I would never deign to set foot near anyone so lowerclass, but I'm feeling generous today. Now I ask again. What are you talking about?"
One of the students finally spoke.
"Actually Saiko, you have perfect timing. We were just talking about one of my favourite phrases."
Saiko was confused. He had expected some grovelling, and appreciation of his wealth. Or if not that then perhaps hostility. Not whatever this boy was blathering about.
"Tell me Saiko." The strange boy was still talking. "Have you ever heard the saying "eat the rich"? I've always liked it."
The boy turned to look at Saiko. As he met his eyes, he felt a chill up his spine. Deep in this boy's eyes, underneath a layer of relaxed amusement, he looked... hungry.
"Y'see, the reason I like it, is because it's straightforward. It says what it needs to and it says it quickly. Eat the rich. Easy."
Saiko quickly regained his composure. He refused to let this commoner waste any more of his time with some ridiculous saying.
"Yes yes, very nice metaphor or whatever. Now if you'll excuse me, I-"
"Oh but Saiko, it's not a metaphor. It's much simpler than that. Because the thing about money is that when people are worth more, they turn into worse people."
He gestured at Saiko as if to give an example. The impudence! How dare he make fun of Saiko Metori?! He was about to start yelling about this offence but the boy was still talking.
"Not everything is like that though. People get worse, but food?"
He looked directly at the wealthy boy.
"When food is worth more it just gets tastier."
The boy suddenly smiled, showing his teeth, which seemed just a little too sharp for Saiko's liking.
"Enjoy your lunch, rich boy."
Saiko didn't bother trying to get the last word in, he simply turned and left. From behind him he could hear the other students at the table laughing at the exchange. Ordinarily he would have had their parents transferred to Siberia for laughing at him, but he was too preoccupied to care.
As heir to such a large company, he had recieved plenty of threats in his time. Mostly from people who wanted to get money out of him. But never had something shaken him so badly before.
Never once had someone threatened to eat him.
