Work Text:
Mycroft Holmes was not a man for sentiment; he was far too busy for that. His rooms were neat and organized, devoid of knickknacks and memorabilia.
“Caring is not an advantage”, he’d once said. What he didn’t say was that it was something they had in common.
Mycroft Holmes was not a man for sentiment. And because of that, no-one but Anthea saw him remove a photo from his drawer, and look long and hard at his baby brother’s giggling face.
And because he does not care for sentiment, not even Sherlock believes him when he says he worries. Everyone knows that Mycroft thinks emotions are a liability. Everyone assumes it is a disadvantage he does not share.
They are wrong.
But Mycroft Holmes is not a man for sentiment.
And that is the way he likes it.
