Chapter 1: Teenage Dream

Chapter Text

It all started with a dream. Chimerical or realistic? He didn’t really know just yet. Time would only give him the answer. Even so, there were dreams Sam had that did work out in the long run. He had a band now, right? Sam could spend time making music with the two people he loved more than anything in the world. How lucky was that?

There was another dream Sam had always chased too. In the beginning, it was kept to himself. Sam wanted to keep these things close to his chest in hopes they would come true. He was a bit of a romantic; he could be sappy. Sam was already relatively affectionate with his friends, but he wanted to be allowed to hold someone close to his chest and dear to his heart in another way. Was that so much to ask for?
Back in high school he had always held his tongue. Plenty of ladies used to like Sam very much, but he was never into them. He’d take the journey home, and he would ponder about what it was he really wanted. It was always difficult for Sam to be able to tell. With his father, Kent, in the army things at home could be trying. Sam’s mother always seemed a bit withdrawn. Jodi didn’t seem to want anything to do with her children; therefore, Sam would have to take care of his younger brother. Sam rarely ever had time to himself…

Dreams were for night time anyways, right? Sam would lay flat on his back. There was nothing too interesting on his bedroom ceiling at the time. He just would let his eyes relax as he imagined a life he wanted. Someone to love… but not just someone, right? Sam wanted to be with a guy. Someone who would run through life and keep up with his fast pace. Sam would be able to take care of him and spoil him with love; he hoped that his future boyfriend would do the same to him. They could live a simple life together. Sometimes Sam’s mind would get a bit more imaginative than that. The two of them could go camping under the stars, go out dancing together, and enjoy music. Maybe just sit down and vibe with one another! Honestly, Sam wondered if he could find a boyfriend who would play Solarion Chronicles with him… wouldn’t that be a dream?

Sam never thought he would be able to fall in love with some guy, nor did he think he could sweep someone off of his feet. He wasn’t sure that his life was cut out for romance, but everything changed one day. Moving to Pelican Town was a pain in the ass; however, he did not seem to mind it all that much anymore. He’d moved here years ago hoping to continue to conceal who he truly was… but then he fell in love.

“Samson.” Sebastian said waving his hand in front of Sam’s face to bring him out of his thoughts and into the present day. The emo was well aware the blond could get lost in his thoughts sometimes. He thought it was cute.

“Wh-what?”
“Set up camp by myself, asshole.”

Yeah, this was the guy that had caught Sam’s heart and held it so gently. Maybe they weren’t the most traditional couple, but Sam wouldn’t give up Sebastian’s playful teasing for anything in the world. “Proud of you.” Sam smiled at him and kissed his cheek. “Thank you for this, hun.” Sam knew that sometimes Sebastian went through some hard times, but this camping trip they’ve been on has been like heaven.

For as long as Sam knew Sebastian, Sam knew that Sebastian had wanted to leave Pelican Town. At times that thought could be extremely heartbreaking. Sam never wanted Sebastian to go. So this summer they had been traveling around different campsites. Sebastian had enough money to get by and he worked freelance. Sam hadn’t really had a job since Jojamart closed down. Besides, his dad swore to take care of things while he was gone. Sam didn’t necessarily trust Kent, but he couldn’t let that stop him from an epic summer of adventures with his boyfriend. It was Sam’s turn to live out his dreams.

Sebastian turned on a lantern he had as the sun began to set. It took a long time to set up, but that was because Sebastian was taking his time while Sam napped all day; Sam had issues sleeping while traveling. Sebastian didn’t mind at all really. This was a vacation for both of them! Besides, Sam set up the last campsite on his own since Sebastian had a migraine. It all worked out.

“So what did you wanna do?”

“Campfire maybe?” Sam as he stretched. He hummed when he saw Sebastian nod in agreement. Sam started making them a fire since wood wasn’t hard to come by. Sebastian was usually better at making this part, but Sam wanted to contribute to today’s hard work in some way, shape, or form.

There was a lot of love in the air as the boys made themself some dinner over the fire. As they chatted about how far they’d come so far that summer, the night sky became polluted with beautiful, bright stars. Sam had taken out his guitar while Sebastian set up a blanket for them to sit on and stargaze. Part of the vacation was dedicated to Sam getting some song writing inspiration, and so he had some songs he had written.

Sebastian admired the way Sam looked when he got focused. He’d slightly bite his tongue and his eyes would never wonder; Sebastian often noticed how hard it could be for Sam to just focus on things sometimes. It was adorable when he got all in the zone like that; his eyebrows were slightly furrowed as well. Sebastian swore his heart stopped when Sam looked over at him and smiled. “Did you want to hear a bit?”

Sebastian shrugged. He looked down at the piece of paper Sam had been scribbling on - there were literal scribbles. “Eh, I think you’re a bit too frustrated for that, Sammy boy.” He commented as he looked at him. Sebastian patted his shoulder before wrapping an arm around him. “You were tired all day. Give yourself a break.”

“Yoba, you sound like me when you work for days on end.”

Sebastian cocked a brow and waited for it to hit Sam, that was what he was trying to do. He waited and then saw Sam crack a smile before nudging him in the ribs. “Watch it, babe. Pointy elbows.” Sebastian teased and heard Sam giggle.

It might’ve been cheesy, but this was it for Sam. This was everything he could have ever dreamed of. Him and Sebastian didn’t need fancy outings or rose petals all the time. Sometimes a gentle breeze, an arm around him, and some stars above head was all that was required. Sam just enjoyed Sebastian’s company. It didn’t matter where they were. It became clear to him that the dreams he once had had come true. Sam had one dream - it was Sebastian.
