Chapter Text
Takagi groans when he sees the yellow beetle pull up. Shaking his head, he heads over to Sato, handing her one drink.
"Looks like Conan-kun is here, too." Takagi mentions, realizing she already knew when he sees her narrowed eyes.
"And I was so looking forward to seeing the whole movie." Sato says. "What do you think? Try to watch some of it, or just sit and eat the popcorn until…"
"Hi, Takagi-keiji and Sato-keiji!" Conan chirps.
Takagi doesn't jump, but it's close. He sighs, smiling at Conan. "Hi, Conan-kun."
"We're here to see The Kid." Conan points to the group of kids gathered around the ticket counter. "You can relax. Nothing happens when Kid is around."
"The Kid?" Sato asks, as Takagi tries to figure out if the kid knew what they had been thinking. "S movie about Kaitou Kid?"
"Yeah, he's going to have such a big head after this." Conan rolls his eyes.
"Oh, yeah. You chase after him, don't you? Kid killer." Sato teases.
"Yeah. His gloating will be unbearable. Oh, it looks like the kids are ready. Enjoy your date, Takagi-keiji and Sato-keiji."
They blink, exchanging glances. "If he's right about nothing happening, then we can watch the whole movie!" Sato says, grabbing his hand and pulling him past the ticket taker, into the theater.
"Great, the whole movie." Takagi mutters under his breath. "Can't wait to see it."
They settle down in the middle of the theater, the best spot to see the movie. Sato glances at Takagi. "Are you really okay with watching this? I know you're not fond of scary movies."
Takagi shrugs, smiling at Sato. "I'm okay with it, I'm with you, Sato. I'm happy doing anything with you." He blushes, looking away.
Sato blushes. "I like doing stuff with you, too, Takagi." The lights dim. "Oh, it's starting!"
Takagi doesn't remember much of the movie, he was more distracted by Sato sitting next to him, both of them eating from the same popcorn bag. He times it so he's reaching in for a handful at the same time as her, his hand brushing hers. She doesn't notice, absorbed in the film as she is, and he takes the moment to just admire her.
The movie ends before he expects it to and he's surprised when the lights come on. "That was so good, wasn't it, Takagi? I'm glad we were able to watch it all." Sato says, stretching.
Takagi averts his eyes. "I'm glad you enjoyed it."
"You didn't watch a bit of it, did you?" Sato laughs.
"I...not much, I tuned out around the ghosts." Takagi admits, smiling. "Was a bit too scary for me."
"What, you think you'll get haunted by a ghost?" Sato teases.
"With our luck?" Takagi asks.
"That's ok, I can protect you tonight." Sato says, ignoring how Takagi freezes at that. She frowns at the empty bag. "Wow, did we eat the whole thing? Let's go for a walk."
Takagi blinks, rebooting. "Sure, and I think it's almost sunset. We can go to that bridge, the one with a good view."
"Sure, c'mon." Sato stands, holding a hand out. He grabs it and they walk out of the theater. They're halfway to the bridge before he realizes that they're still holding hands.
He glances down at their hands, then up at Sato, who's looking away. He smiles, squeezing her hand gently. She looks at him, smiling back.
Once at the bridge, they lean against the railing, talking about nothing in particular. They watch the sun go down, the light reflecting off the water. As the sun disappears, Takagi takes a breath. This is it, he thinks, my chance. He turns to look at Sato. "S... sato." He stammers out. Sato is looking at him, leaning towards him. He leans down towards her. "I...is this okay?" He asks, his lips brushing hers. He's answered by her lips meeting his.
