Chapter Text
Harry sat down in the yard of the Burrow, staring into the sky. It was June 23rd, a little over a month since the Battle of Hogwarts. Voldemort was dead. The castle was still a wreck. Aurors were hunting down Death Eaters. Most funerals had been held.
Harry was exhausted. His job was over, but he couldn’t seem to relax. The entire wizarding world had their eyes on him. Harry desperately wanted them to look away.
“Hey. Mind if I join you?” A voice said, from behind him.
Harry turned to see Ginny standing there, and nodded. He and Ginny were still broken up, which made them both feel a little awkward whenever they were alone together.
“Are you ok?” Ginny asked, tentatively.
“I wish Kingsley would let me go on a raid… even more people are risking their lives now.” Harry said.
“You can’t go off and hunt Death Eaters, you’re still only 17.” Ginny said. “The aurors, that’s their job. They know what they signed up for.”
“I just feel… useless.” Harry admitted.
“You gave them a list of names. Now they know who to find. You did as much as you could, now, you have to let them do their jobs.” Ginny said. “You need to relax. Take a break.”
Harry and Ginny sat in silence. Harry was thinking about what Ginny had said, and he had to admit, a vacation sounded pretty nice.
They were eventually joined by Ron and Hermione, who were walking together, hand in hand.
“Hey mate.” Ron said, patting Harry on the back.
“The gnomes are especially feisty today.” Hermione noted, sitting down next to Ginny.
“Yesterday they were even worse. I swear, one almost bit my finger off.” Ron said.
“It nibbled your finger, Ron.” Ginny said, giggling. “I’d hardly call that a war wound.”
At the mention of war, the four wizards fell silent.
“I want to get away.” Harry said, suddenly.
“From the Burrow?” Ron asked.
“From the wizarding world.” Harry said. “Not permanently, of course. I just need to clear my head, I think we all do.”
“A vacation?” Hermione asked.
“A much needed break.” Ginny said, smiling at Harry.
“You guys could with me…” Harry said.
“Do you want us to?” Ron asked.
“I’d love it.” Harry said. “But… only if you wanted to, of course. I’d understand if you didn’t.”
“A vacation sounds pretty nice right now.” Ron said.
“And romantic.” Hermione said, beaming at Ron.
“We’ll just have to convince Mum.” Ginny said.
“Mine just got back from Australia, back to their real lives." Hermione said. "I'm sure if I asked, they'd let me."
“It is summer after all.” Ron said. “The perfect time for a vacation.”
“Where could we go?” Hermione asked.
“It would need to be somewhere outside of Europe. We’re too known here.” Harry said.
“Somewhere to hide from the press…” Ginny pondered.
“We could go to a remote island.” Ron suggested.
“We’d get bored quickly.” Hermione said.
Suddenly, an idea dawned on Harry.
“How about New York?” Harry said.
