A New Kind of Love

Summary:

When Nikolai and Sigma, two rather different people, become roommates all Sigma expects is trouble. But even if he's mostly right maybe that trouble could at times be outshined by something different?

Chapter 1: New Beginnings

Chapter Text

Nikolai is packing his bags while music practically blasts in the background. He’s elated, really.

He never thought his acting would turn into much but a handful of months ago he was offered a scholarship to an expensive school in the heart of Yokohama. How delightful!

He finds himself singing along to his music at times, some random Russian pop music mind you. Suddenly his phone buzzes with a phone call and the rather tall male groans. He quickly clicks off his music and answers the phone. He’s immediately greeted by the loud but all around friendly voice of his father. Well technically he is only his adopted father but Nikolai sees no difference.

“Hey there kid! Getting ready?”

Nikolai hums and responses,

“Yup!~ And I’m no kid stop that!!”

His father, Fukuchi, simply smiles at this. He knows his son is legally an adult but he’ll forever be a kid to him.

“Yeah, yeah I know! Geez you grow up too fast!”

The man laughs as Nikolai groans. He can’t really stay mad at his father though, nobody can.

“Whatever you say~ Ooh don’t you have that date with mister,”

He trails off as he tried to remember the name of his father’s date. His father jumps in saying,

“Fukuzawa, yeahh– Oh and uh.. Sorry I can’t be there for your first day of college!”

Nikolai holds the phone to his ear as he hums once again.

“Aah no blaming yourself you can’t help that your work takes you everywhere!!~ I’ll be fine and dandy dad~”

And to be fair that was the truth. Nikolai has always been independent due to Fukuchi not being able to be around much. Surprisingly though their relationship wasn’t too strained, a fact Nikolai was actually grateful for.

Fukuchi sighed.

"If you say so! Anyways I gotta get going soon! Try not to make out with the first boy you see~"

Nikolai huffed in a childlike manner.

"Dad!! Hmph I could say the same with your date~"

They both laugh. The call ends soon after and Nikolai continues packing happily.

A new chapter in his life, how exciting!

Fyodor stands in Sigma's doorway with a bored expression. His son is frantically packing even though he still has 2 whole days.

Sigma huffs in frustration and looks up at his father.

"Could you help me look for my hair brush dad?"

The male's tone is exasperated, seemingly just on the edge of having a mental break down. He was clearly stressed.

Fyodor nodded and looked around a bit. Quite suddenly an almost menacing giggle can be heard. Sigma's little sibling Kyusaku pops out holding the hair brush.

Sigma is just about one millimeter away from losing his mind as he snatches the brush from Kyu who only stuck out their tounge. He shoves the brush into his bag. His head is spinning with a million thoughts.

Will I just be a loner again? Will I get picked on? What if I leave a bad first impression? What will my roommate be like?

Sigma was zoning out, a fact which his other father Shibusawa noticed as he walked in. Shibusawa clicks his tongue and pats Sigma's back bringing him back to reality.

"Overthinking?"

Sigma nods a bit. His white haired father hums a quiet but soft melody and Fyodor can't help but smile. Even Kyu seemed to calm down and sit by Sigma.

After a few minutes Shibusawa finally spoke.

"I'm sure you'll do wonderful. And make nice friends."

Sigma nodded. His nerves were actually calmed. He exhaled and pushed himself up to continue packing. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad!

Nope it's really that bad. This is just orientation and the psychology student is already overwhelmed. He digs around his bag for his Zoloft, his anxiety medicine.

Two people, one male the other female, walk up to him seeing how he seems panicked. Sigma looks up and rubs the nap of his neck nervously.

"Can I help you..?"

The ginger male smiles.

"Nah you just looked a bit panicked so me and Teruko here wanted to see if you're aight!"

The girl, apparently named Teruko shoved his arms roughly making the male laugh.

"Shut it Tachi lemme introduce myself!"

Sigma blinks slowly. These two are clearly close friends.

"Tachi and Teruko.. Well I thank you for your concern but I'll be quite alright! Just looking for my meds is all.."

As he says this he finally finds the damn thing and takes out the orange tinted prescription bottle.

Teruko tilts her head to the side,

"What are they for?"

Tachihara slapped his forehead and lightly bonked Teruko over the head.

"It ain't our business!"

Sigma shakes his head quickly as he takes one and puts them away.

"Anxiety.. I take them for anxiety."

Tachihara pats Sigma's shoulder and smiles.

"We're all new here right? There ain't nothing to be afraid of!"

Sigma is slightly reassured by these words. Teruko sighs and looks around seemingly bored out of her mind. Sigma rubbed his arm and looked around.

"So.. How long have you two known each other?"

Teruko thought for a moment and smiled sweetly.

"About a good 8 years now!"

Tachihara grumbled under his breath,

"Too long."

Earning him a good jab in the shoulder. He laughed and tried to defend himself from the rest of the blows directed at him.

They were kinda loud, Sigma thought, but all around friendly enough people.

Eventually a teacher got on stage and clapped loudly enough for the almost deafening noise to quiet down.

"Okay everyone settle down!"

Orientation was simple enough. The principal introduced himself as Mr. Mori and introduced the other teachers. They all seemed nice enough Sigma supposed. Tachihara and Teruko kept messing around and Sigma would occasionally laugh at their antics.

Meanwhile Nikolai was bored of his mind. The teacher's smiles all looked fake and most of the students either weren't paying attention or seemed boring to mess with. He hoped his roommate wouldn't be THIS boring.

After orientation everyone was given their dorm rooms. Teruko and Tachihara were celebrating as they were paired together. Sigma simply smiled and said,

"Ah well I hope my roommate is nice.."

Sigma got the pair's phone numbers and smiled kindly as he walked off.

Ideally he would have a kind but quiet roommate. Just so they could get along okay but Sigma could study if needed. Instead he got what he could best describe as a complete clown.

When Sigma walked into his room with his stuff he was immediately greeted by.. well a sight for sure.

His alleged roommate was tall. That's the first thing Sigma noticed. Next was the male's long silver hair that was messily braided. When this male peered over at Sigma he could see this strange looking male's mismatched eyes. They were strange for sure but oddly charming.

"Caught you staring!~"

Sigma paused being realizing he was being spoke to.

"Right.. I apologize."

He held his bags closer to himself. His roommate was definitely, interesting to look at.. Eccentric-looking was probably a better way to put it.

Nikolai grinned and waved a bit. His loose fitting white shirt slightly hung off of his arms. Sigma awkwardly waved back and put down his things. So far Nikolai didn't seem mean per say. Nikolai strolled up to Sigma making him raise him eye brow. He yelped in surprise as Nikolai over dramatically bowed down, with one hand on his heart and the other behind his back.

"The name Nikolai Gogol!~"

He stood up straight again and took Sigma's hand, elegantly pressing a kiss to it. He then winked and added,

"At your service~"

Sigma could just about die in that moment. What kind of person does that to a stranger?!? His cheeks go bright red and he freezes before even fully processing what the hell just happened. Nikolai tilts his head with a clueless innocent-ness. In reality he knows what he's doing but he absolutely can't pass up on getting a reaction out of a new person!

"Whoops are you broken so soon?"

He snickered before he received a kick in the shin. Sigma's arms are crossed now.

"My name is Sigma. And I'd prefer not to be kissed on the hand by someone I just met thank you very much!"

Nikolai whined over dramatically and touched the back of his hand to his forehead.

"I might just die!! You have to pay for the hospital bill though!~"

Sigma rubbed his temples and inhaled.

"It's always the drama majors.."

He was mumbling to himself however Nikolai heard him and his lips formed into a perfect little "o".

"How'd you guess?!?~"

Sigma exhaled.

"Well let's see.. First your posture."

Sigma gestured to the way Nikolai naturally stood. With his hands cupped around each other in front of his waist while the rest of him body seemed relaxed. That showed a level of confidence and pride. Nikolai nodded slowly.

"Secondly how you dress."

Nikolai was currently wearing a white button up that was intentionally larger around the arms with the first two buttons undone, a wide legged red pants, and simple but somewhat elegant black shoes. Definitely a bit of an interesting look but Sigma actually thought it complimented him quite well.

"And lastly your way of speech and mannerisms. They're.. very loud I suppose."

Nikolai was in slight awe. So he was that easy to unravel huh?

"Woah someone's got a good eye! Allow me to guess your major!!~"

Sigma sighed and shrugged.

"Go on,"

He was tired of Nikolai already. Great.

"Aah let's see!~ Only a psychology major could unravel someone so quickly! Correct?"

Sigma nodded as he turned around to his side of the room to begin unpacking.

"Woohoo you're correct."

His voice was clearly unenthusiastic.

Sigma had found his newest headache and Nikolai had found his newest victim.

What's the worst that could happen?
