Work Text:

Bennett had been frantically looking around for Fischl for nearly an hour. She had run off in the middle of their conversation about visiting her home world, seemingly upset about it. Bennett wanted to apologize for causing her to be upset, but she was nowhere in sight.

After running seemingly all around Mondstadt, he finally found Fischl sitting by the water in a shallow pool surrounding a Statue of the Seven. His eyes softened as he noticed her arms curled around her knees, Oz resting himself on her head.

Oz turned to Bennett and gazed at him with sorrow in his eyes. Nothing hurt him more than Fischl being in pain, emotional or physical. Bennett could hear Fischl sniffling as he slowly walked over to kneel beside her. Bennett sat in silence as he watched Fischl, her striking green eyes watery and glossed over.

"Uhm..." He spoke quietly, not too certain of his words. He tried to choose them carefully through fear that his luck would make him say something stupid. "I'm real sorry about that Princess... I didn't know your home was so sensitive to you..." In reality he had no idea, with the amount that Fischl spoke about her home, boasting about how incredible it was, he would have thought she would be proud about the fact that he wanted to visit. "We don't.. hafta go.. If you don't want to.." He moved forwards a bit so he could make eye contact with her. Fischl sniffed and looked away, her face becoming redder than before.

Bennett sighed and moved to stand up, "I'll leave you alo-" He was cut off by Fischl grabbing his arm and holding him in place. Bennett looked down at her with confusion, before Fischl pulled him into a tight hug, her body still shaking with sobs.

Bennett held her close, Oz resting on her calf as they sat in comforting silence. Bennett softly stroked Fischl's hair, letting her get her emotions out as she needed. The wind carried a comforting scent, and Bennett watched the fish in the water as he continued to play with Fischl's hair. After a few minutes, she finally began to calm.

"M-my apologies.." She stuttered. "You should not have had the misfortune of setting your eyes upon me like this, mortal." She wiped her cheeks of tears and cleared her throat. "A princess is expected to maintain her composure. When speaking about ones native homeland one obtains unpleasant feelings." She voice hitched as she said that, and she looked down with grief.

Bennett shook his head and set his hand on her shoulder. "You don't need to apologize Fischl, it was my fault for bringing it up." He awkwardly moved his hand from her shoulder to the back of his neck, scratching it nervously. "I'm not sure what it's like in your head but I won't ask about it anymore. Our adventures in Teyvat are just great!" He gave her a big grin and put a thumb up.

Fischl giggled a bit and gave him a thumbs back in return. "You have my thanks m- Bennett.." The two of them were still sitting and holding each other, neither wanting to move to stand up.

"Once the stars in the sky align, and the dust settles upon the grave of a foul beast, we may venture." Fischl said quietly, and Oz looked to her with surprise.

"Mien Frauliën, can you be certain?" He asked, moving to the ground next to them. Fischl laughed and turned her head to look at Oz, resting the side of her head against Bennett's chest.

"Of course Mien Familiar, the homecoming of the Princessen der Fehertelüng will the most incredible event to strike thine world in over a thousand centuries!" Fischl boasted, quickly back to her normal self. Oz seemed pleased with what she said, and returned to his perch on her leg.

"And when one steps upon the soil of ones homeland," She said, looking up at Bennett with admiring eyes. "One will be bringing a most respected partner along."
