Work Text:
“Wow. That’s… actually good,” Midari Ikishima said, dropping her bag at the other table. She was talking about what Sayaka is currently sketching on her drawing pad.
Sayaka looked up at her Midari then looked back at her sketch. She didn’t notice that her roommate was already back at their room. Having realized that, she checked out the time on her phone. It was already lunchtime.
“Is it?” Sayaka asked. Sayaka then straightened her back and stretched her arms, feeling sore from sitting all morning from drawing.
Midari sat down at her chair, her feet propped up on her study table and slouching down the chair. “It is! But I really don’t know how you can still draw when finals are already coming up. Aren’t you supposed to be busy with reading your trances or whatever?”
Sayaka is a current medical student but as a passing time she sketches and draw stuff to relieve the stress from school. It is true that she hasn’t read all her trances but she also knows that she’s already ahead than her classmates and she’s confident in her ability to ace their tests.
“Oh, yeah,” Midary raised her head, remembering something. “Runa is coming. I told her to buy our food on the way since I went straight here from our building.”
“Hmmm. Okay.” Sayaka said, continuing her shading. It was already done but the shading isn’t quite finished.
“Who’s that, by the way?” Midari rolled her chair to Sayaka’s side.
“Hmmm?” Sayaka tilted her head in Midari’s way but is still looking at her sketchpad, finishing the last touches of it.
“That girl. Who is she?” Midari pointed out her drawing.
Sayaka now looked at Midari. “Hmmm.” Sayaka thought for a while. “No one,” she finally answered. “Just something that popped into my head. And now, I’m drawing it.”
Midari looked at it again. It was a picture of young girl, wearing a Kimono with a looped-braided hair. The way Sayaka drew it could make you fall for the art. Especially the eyes, it was so captivating. “Tell me again why didn’t you pursue art school?” She’s now looking at Sayaka.
Sayaka only laughed as her answer.
“What? I’m not kidding. You should definitely be in the art department. You have the skills, you know.”
Sayaka shook her head. She was about to reply when Runa Yomozuki knocked on the door and Midari let her in.
“Hi Guys! What’s up. I bought our lunch,” Runa cheerily said, raising her arms with their lunches and then putting it on top of their small dining table.
“Thank you so much! I’m so hungry, I think I could pass out.” Midari was already finding her foodpack. “I just don’t have the energy to go to the cafeteria anymore.”
Sayaka remained seated in her chair. “Ah. Thank you. I wasn’t able to buy my food. I’m glad you remembered me.” She said, smiling gratefully at Runa.
“Yeah, I know. Midari already texted me since she said that you were busy with your trances. But as I look at it now,” Runa eyed Sayaka’s table. “You’re not busy with school stuff.”
Sayaka scratched the back of her neck, sheepishly. “I was actually reading but I just couldn’t focus well this day,” Sayaka reasoned out. “And then I just started drawing. Wait, what food did you buy for me?”
“Oh, you know, the usual, meat.”
Sayaka looked at her, her face looking ominous.
“Hahaha. I’m just kidding! Of course, I know! Vegetables. Here ya go.” Runa reached out her lunchpack and gave it to Sayaka.
Sayaka just did their cadaver last week and even if it was already a week ago, she still couldn’t forget how extremely similar a cadaver is to a normal meat product. Just thinking about it makes her gag and puke.
As Runa gave Sayaka’s lunch, she couldn’t help but noticed Sayaka’s art. “Wow. She looks like Ririka but oddly different.”
Both Sayaka and Midari looked at Runa.
“What?”
“Who?”
They both said at the same time, confused with what Runa just said,
“So, you really did base it on an actual person.” Midari lightly pushed Sayaka’s arm.
“What no?! I didn’t.” Sayaka looked at them. You could hear how her voice is laced with truth.
“Wait, you don’t know her?” Runa asked, now she’s confused.
“Ririka? You know, the one in the business department,” Runa said in her usual casual voice. “Wait, ya’ll really clueless?”
“Look, I just draw her, like as a fiction character. Hence, the Kimono dress. It’s impossible to have it…”, Sayaka raised her hands up “or her, in reality.”
“But she really looked like Ririka.” Runa said still looking at the sketch. She then tilted her head sideways. “Of course, there are a lot of difference. Like yeah, the Kimono, and what’s up with those circle braids.”
“It’s not circle-braids. Those are looped-braids.”
Runa looked at her with questioning eyes. “They’re the same thing, Igarashi.”
Sayaka only rolled her eyes.
“But now looking at it, I think Ririka had twin sister,” Runa said, one of her hands was propped up on her chin. She was thinking deeply.
“Hmmm. Really? Maybe that’s the one Sayaka based her art on.” Midari pointed out from the side, still eating her lunch.
Runa clapped her hands as if realizing something. “I just remembered it. We’re the same batch so both of you don’t know this, but the twins topped at the entrance exam. Yes, they’re just that good as you,” Runa looked at Sayaka, talking about the fact that Sayaka also topped in the entrance exams of their batch.
“I can’t remember the name of the other twin but she’s the top one and Ririka followed closely at number two.” She scratched her head and then finally Runa snapped her fingers, now remembering the name.
“Kirari. It’s Kirari Momobami!”
