Work Text:

“And so, in theory, if we…” Vanitas stopped and glanced over. Walking right next to him should have been Noé. However, when he looked to his right, said vampire was missing. Aww great. Just what I needed.

He took a deep breath and shouted at the top of his lungs, “Noé! Where did you go!?” He looked around, hoping to spot the white-haired vampire somewhere amongst the crowd. But still, he wasn’t there.

Vanitas sighed. Well, guess I have to go on another wild goose chase. And so he started down the cobbled streets of Paris in search of Noé.

He looked up and down the streets, his head darting back and forth in order to observe as many people as he could. He looked inside shops, paying extra attention to the ones he knew Noé went to. He even checked back alleyways. But Noe was nowhere to be found. In a fit of desperation, he went to the cafe to see if Noé had gotten a craving for Tarte Tatin. But alas, he was not there.

Vanitas pinched the bridge of his nose. This has got to be a record. I don’t think that he has ever wandered off for this long.

Having nothing else to do but simply wait for Noé to show up on his own, Vanitas strolled to the park. He walked past couples enjoying a sunny afternoon stroll, and children running and frolicking together.

As he goes to sit on a bench, he hears a familiar chuckle from behind him. He whips his head around to discover a truly unbelievable sight.

Am I dreaming? Hallucinating? No, that really is Noé. He stared in confusion at the swarm of butterflies that covered his vampire companion.

Vanitas tried not to let the impatience show as he asked,“Noé. I’m almost afraid to ask. Why the hell are you sitting there covered with butterflies?”

“Well. As we were walking down the street, I noticed a butterfly and started following it. Then I saw another one, and another one, and another one. Until I finally ended up here and was swarmed by a whole bunch of them!”

Even though Vanitas couldn’t see Noé, he was able to visualize the massively goofy grin that he was certain that the vampire had plastered on his face.

“I don’t really have the patience to deal with this right now. Could you please get out from underneath your butterfly blanket?”

Notes:

Honestly. I don't know what was going through my head when I thought this up. But I finally finished it. I think I have been working on this for 2 weeks.
