Work Text:

“Has anyone seen Kaminari?”

Mina frowns as the few people lounging around shake their heads. Huffing, the pink girl puts her hands on her hips and takes a look around. The common room is pretty empty- not all that unusual for a Wednesday evening. Most of the class has either turned in for the night or just finished their dinner. The common room is empty besides herself, Ojirou, Hagakure and Tsu.

“Now if I were a Pikachu, where would I be…?” She asks no one in particular, continuing to survey her surroundings. Gaze landing on the courtyard outside, dark clouds and the accompanying rumble of thunder catch her eye. Tsu seems to notice, and gives Mina a thoughtful nod.

“I’d guess if he was anywhere, he’d be outside.”

“Awesome! I’ll go take a look around.” Ojiro’s eyes come up from the book he’s reading.

“Might wanna take an umbrella or something, looks like the rain is starting.” Throwing a thumbs up his way, Mina turns on her heel and dashes up to her room. After grabbing the necessary gear for a rainy day expedition, she trots back down and heads out 1A Alliance’s front door. Time to go find Kaminari!

***

It turns out that Mina doesn’t have to go very far before she finds her wayward friend. He’s situated just in front of the dorms, eyes closed and head tilted up to the sky. She opens her mouth to call his name, but a deep thunder clap beats her to the punch. Then she notices the smile on Kaminari’s face.

Mina’s never seen him so… relaxed. Usually Kaminari is bubbling with energy- always talking or moving or stimming with something. Ojirou and his tail know that better than anyone. He’s admitted to many of them that the behavior comes from a combination of his quirk and ADHD, which makes total sense. None of them have ever belittled him for it or acted as i it was strange, because each of them had their own problems to deal with. Mina herself knew the pains of eczema up close and personal.

But Kaminari’s usual antsy posture is nowhere to be found. In its place? A body softly swaying, unfazed by the rain beginning to splatter down on it. Deep, even breathing permeates the aura he gives off- contentment wrapping the small area in its comforting embrace. His friend can’t help staring at the almost jarring display.

And then- oh then. A bright flash lights up the gray sky above them, and those eyes drift open. Pure bliss makes its way into golden irises, as if they had never seen anything quite so beautiful. Electricity begins to dance its way along wet skin; arms moving up and hands running through soaked hair. Yellow bolts crackle and jump around the boy, almost as if he were made of the heaven’s lightning itself.

Mina isn’t sure if she should interrupt the moment. She needs to talk to Kaminari, sure, but it could wait until he’s done. She could wait by the front door for him, maybe with a towel, be a good friend like that. He’d probably appreciate it, laugh, and then she could ask him about-

Her train of thought is abruptly cut off, however, when a new player enters the scene.

Having only seen the boy a few times during the Sports Festival and joint training, Mina almost doesn’t remember his name. She knows that he’s friends with Kirishima, though. They apparently bonded over their similar quirks.

Apparently he’s Kaminari’s friend, too.

Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu walks forward, posture relaxed despite getting closer and closer to the electric storm that is Kaminari Denki. The other doesn’t seem fazed at all, though. He slowly twirls in Tetsutetsu’s direction, and the most beautiful smile Mina has possibly ever seen in her life stretches across his face.

As Tetsutetsu smiles back, as he approaches Kaminari like a knight approaching his queen, as steel slowly melts across his skin when he takes the blond into his arms, as yellow lightning dances around them and rain pours over them and peace and love fill them, Mina realizes just how much she’s interrupting.

This is something magical. Something ethereal.

Something she very much isn’t meant to see.

And so she departs. Her legs turn her around quietly and take her back to the 1A Alliance. Her hands open the door and close it, barely making a whisper. It all seems to happen so fast, without even happening at all. She does it all in the blink of an eye.

But not before she saw the kiss.

“So? Did you find Kaminari?” Hgakure asks from the couch. Tsu seems to have disappeared, but she and Ojiro are still there. Mina finds that words have escaped her.

“I… I…” Her quietness makes Ojiro frown a bit.

“Mina? You okay?” Snapping out of it, she nods quickly.

“Y-yeah! I’m fine. I didn’t find him, though.” There was no way she could tell them what she saw. She wasn’t going to tell anyone. It wouldn’t be right of her. It wasn’t her moment after all.

Another thick boom comes from outside, and Hagakure yawns. Ojiro pats what must be her shoulder before helping the invisible girl up.

“You’ll probably have to talk to him tomorrow, then. It’s getting late.” Mina nods, her body still a little on autopilot.

“Yeah… goodnight, guys.” Ojiro gives her a wave; then he and Hagakure head up the stairs to their rooms.

Mina takes one last look around the common room, and then out the window. She can’t see Kaminari and Tetsutetsu from here, but she knows they’re out there. She knows what she’s seen.

She wonders if it happens during every storm.

Notes:

Spoiler Alert- it does happen every storm ;)

Hope you guys enjoyed this one, I loved putting my descriptive skill to the test! Leave a kudo or a comment if you wish, and pray for me as I struggle to catch up on Kamiweek ^^'
