Work Text:

“Hyung, are you sure this is a good idea?” Jimin asked unsure, rolling over on the bed so that he was facing the older male, who was currently in the middle of getting dressed. Even though it was a view that he was seeing everyday, he took his time admiring his boyfriend's beautiful form.

They were having a day off from their busy tour schedule, and so far all they had done was to make out in their hotel room. As much as they liked their making out sessions, they were in Japan, so it would have been nice if the could actually go out and see stuff.

“I want to take you on a date where we are outside and not just inside our dorm or a hotel room, Jimin-ah” Yoongi answered as he sat down on the bed, after he had put on his beige, oversized YG T-shirt.

Jimin pursed his lips thoughtfully, “Yoongi, you know we can’t. What if people recognize us?” he asked. Don't misunderstand, he wanted to go on a date with Yoongi out in the public, being able to hold hands and sneak kisses when no one was looking. It just wasn't possible to do so without getting recognized by a fan or the media.

“I want to be like a normal couple, Min.” Yoongi said gently, cupping the younger's full cheeks, making them look small in his large hands. He gently caressed the rosy cheeks as he looked into the warm, brown eyes. “Just trust hyung, yeah?"

Jimin looked thoughtful for a while as he tried to put up the cons and pros against each other and considering every possible outcome for them going on the date, before he finally gave in. "Alright, I'll trust you."

He did want to go on the date just as much as Yoongi did.

"So where are we going?" Jimin asked curiously. His big smile was hidden behind the black mask, but it was being reflected in his eyes for Yoongi to see.

"You'll know it once we get there." Yoongi answered, amusement in his voice due to the younger's excitement. He loved whenever his boyfriend was smiling, but especially when when he was the reason behind it.

As they walked, the back of their hands kept brushing against each other, longing for each other’s touch without being able to do it as there might be prying eyes. Soon, they were able to hear the sound of drums getting closer and a red-ish light was shining not too far away. Jimin could feel his heart begin to beat faster in excitement, harmonizing with the drums. He was curious for what his boyfriend had been planning for their date.

When Jimin finally saw what they were doing for the date, a whispered ‘wow’ fell from his lips as his eyes were glittering with pure admiration of how beautiful it looked. They had arrived at a huge shrine with big torii gates leading up to it. From the torii gates, red lanterns were hanging, lighting up the way, looking beautiful in the dark. Close to the temple there was a performance going on, traditional dancers were dancing to traditional drums and flutes playing an enchanting song. In the front of the temple there were various of stands selling everything from food to the temple’s souvenirs. People were walking around either as a couple or as a group of friends. Some were wearing the traditional yukata, while others were wearing their normal clothes.

“What is this place?” Jimin asked as he looked around, trying to take in every little detail. Not wanting to miss a single thing.

“It’s a shrine called Fushimi Inari Taisha” Yoongi explained, scratching his ear as he normally did whenever he got a bit shy. Luckily, his mask was hiding the small blush there was appearing on his cheeks as he explained why he had taken the other to this place. “There is a lantern festival going on today, and I wanted to show you a beautiful sight.”

Jimin looked at Yoongi with sparkles of joy gleaming in his eyes, “It really is beautiful, hyung.”

Jimin really wished that they could enjoy this as a normal couple, but as usual reality hit him hard once he realized that it wouldn’t be possible despite the older’s promise from earlier. The place was crowded with people and it made Jimin feel a bit nervous. In a place as crowded as this, surely someone would be able to recognize them? Especially at this time where they just had a concert in Osaka which was only a thirty minutes train ride away from this place.

“Are you sure about this?” Jimin asked feeling both concerned and nervous, “There are so many people.”

“Look.” Yoongi said pointing towards one of the stands. It was a stand that was selling white and red fox masks with different facial expressions.

At first he was confused as to why Yoongi was pointing that out. That was until he noticed that about half of the people visiting the temple was wearing a fox mask. Some were wearing the mask on top of their head, while others were wearing it covering their face completely. He realized that if they wore the mask they would easily blend into the crowd with our fearing anyone would be able to recognize them from their eyes or whatever. By wearing the mask they could actually be just like any other couple.

Jimin knew that he had done the right thing by trusting Yoongi and agreeing to going on the date. Yoongi always had his back no matter what and he didn’t do anything half-hearted. He had planned everything down to the smallest detail, just so they could have a feeling of privacy while still being in public.

“How do I look?” Jimin asked, after putting on the fox mask he just had bought. The fox was smiling. Its smile was just like Jimin’s: cute and with half moon eyes.

“Cute. The mask looks just like you.” Yoongi answered, adjusting his own mask to make sure it covered his face completely.

“Your mask really captured your personality, hyung.” Jimin giggled as he brought his hand up to cover for his mouth, forgetting that he was wearing a mask and the gesture was pointless. “It looks all sleepy, just like you.”

“So my whole personality is being sleepy?” Yoongi asked, pretending to sound offended, but he actions opposite. He was letting his hand brush against the back of Jimin’s knowing that the younger would take the hint. Almost immediately Jimin took Yoongi’s hand in his, lacing their fingers together. Both of them were feeling a rush of excitement, but also a bit nervous. However, the nervousness disappeared once they realized that people for once didn’t care about them.

They walked through the road of gates that lead up to one of the temples, where a huge open area was in front of it. It was here the sound of drums had come from. Dancers and musicians was in the middle of a beautiful performance, that somehow touched Jimin's heart. The beat of the drums vibrating through the ground, the dancers' movement glowing in the dim red light. It was a beautiful performance and Jimin could feel himself getting pulled in.

Yoongi noticed how affected the younger was getting from the performance and gave his hand a reassuring squeeze as he let him watch the performance until the end, knowing how much dance meant to the younger.

"I want to make a performance like that someday." Jimin whispered once the performance ended, sounding out of breath.

"You already did something like that at the MMA last year." Yoongi reminded him gently.

"I know, but I want to explore it more. Being able to touch people's heart just like the performers touched mine." Jimin insisted determined.

Yoongi wanted to argue that Jimin was already touching people’s heart like that everyday, but he know this wasn’t the time or place for this kind of conversation. So, he just caressed the back of the smaller hand with his thumb instead, so show the he supported the younger’s idea and wants.

They started walking around the shrine, taking in the atmosphere. They saw some people walking around with red lantern handheld lanterns as they started heading towards the mountain.

"You want one?" Yoongi asked, noticing how the younger was looking at every couple who was carrying one.

"Please." Jimin pleaded softly, knowing that Yoongi easily would give in to his request.

Just as expected, Yoongi gave his hand a loving squeeze "Alright, hyung will buy you one." he said with that fond voice of his, smiling behind his mask.

Still holding Jimin's hand they walked over to the stand that was selling the pretty lanterns, and Yoongi bought one for Jimin to hold. The seller unfolded the lantern, and placed an electronic candle inside to light it up. The bright red color shining prettily in the dark.

"It so cute." Jimin said, fondness in his voice as he looked down a the lantern.

"Do you want to climb the mountain with me, Jimin-ah?" Yoongi asked softly.

"I'd love to, hyung." Jimin said. Yoongi couldn't see the pretty smile that was hiding behind the mask, but he knew that it was there.

The started walking towards the road which was leading to the mountain. Just like the way to the shrine, the road to the top of the mountain were filled with orange gates leading the way for them. The road got darker and darker the further the walked away from the shrine and the festival, the way only being lit up by the red light of the lantern which was handing from Jimin's small hand.

There was a peaceful silence as they walked. Aside from the faint sound of the festival getting further and further away, the only sound they could hear was their own footsteps.

Both of them were enjoying the silence, as they climbed the mountain hand in hand. Of course, they could enjoy the same peaceful silence together in a hotel room or their dorm, but there was something about being in public together without worrying about being seen that made this really romantic.

They reached the top of the mountain where they could see the beautiful view of the city lights glowing in the dark. The faint sound of the festival could be heard and the foot of the mountain had a red glow from the festival’s many lanterns. It was truly a beautiful sight.

"This is nice." Jimin said breaking the silence, drawing Yoongi's attention towards him.

"Yeah?" Yoongi asked, happy that his boyfriend was enjoying their date.

"Yeah." Jimin confirmed, snuggling closer to the older’s chest as they were viewing the city lights.

Yoongi gently slipped an arm around the younger’s waist, pulling him closer.

"Thank you for dragging me out, hyung." Jimin spoke softly as he rested his head on his boyfriend’s comfortable shoulder. "I'm really enjoying this."

"It's been awhile since we have been on proper date and I wanted to show you something beautiful." Yoongi said, tugging his earring like he always did whenever he was slightly embarrassed. A cute habit of his, which Jimin finds adorable.

Jimin lifted his head from the comfortable shoulder, so that he could look at his boyfriend, "But, hyung, I do see something beautiful everyday."

"You do?" Yoongi asked, curious of what the other had in mind.

"Yeah." Jimin hummed as he reached up and gently ran his fingers through his boyfriend’s honey smooth hair, before finding the ribbon keeping the mask in place. He slowly undid the bow and removed the mask, so he could see Yoongi’s pretty face. "You."

A fond smile along with a blush appears on Yoongi's face by the younger’s compliment. He reaches for Jimin's mask as well, pushing it up, so it's sitting in the younger’s hair. He took in the view of his boyfriend’s pretty face, which he had been wanting to look at for the whole evening.

"I love you, Jimin-ah" He spoke softly, as he caressed the younger’s cheek.

"I love you too, hyung." Jimin breathed, the lights from the city being reflected in his eyes, creating a galaxy in them.

Yoongi gently ran his thumb across the younger’s plump lips, before he pressed his own against them in a loving kiss. The only thing crossing his mind was how happy he was being with Jimin.
