Work Text:

"So what you called me here for?" Tooi asked as he walked down the few last steps, then leaned against the same wall the goal post was drawn on, enjoying the shadow casted there at that time of the day.

"I'm going to confess for Kazuki-"

"I know. You haven't talked about literally anything else in the past two days."

"Shut up." Enta pouted, slighty embarassed, but mostly annoyed. Sometimes, Tooi worried he teased too much... but those sort of faces made it all worth it. It was too cute to look at directly, so he turned his eyes away. "I need to train."

Enta had a shine in his eyes and a really decided look on his face. It looked good on him. Maybe, if he looked like that while confessing, Kazuki wouldn't be able to turn him down. Tooi sighed. As if. He was glad Enta finally got the courage to do that, but he worried about how Enta would react when Kazuki inevitably misunderstood or refused his words. He hated to see Enta cry.

"I'll start, ok?"

Tooi nodded. "Yeah, as you wish."

Enta stared at him for what felt like hours, and it wasn't a romantic stare at all. Didn't he know it already, he would ask if he was trying to start a fight. Instead, he waited. At some point, Enta finally walked up to him, and held both his hands.

"Kazuki!" Even thought it was just play pretend, Enta's cheeks were pink and his palms trembled slightly."I have something to tell you!"

"Hm."

"...Be more enthusiatic!"

"That's what you wanted to tell me!?"

"No- Tooi! Do that right!" He let go of just one of his hands to hit on his shoulder with it. "Kazuki wouldn't sound that uninterested!"

Tooi squinted. He wondered if they were talking about the same person.

"What are you talking about? You're lucky I didn't just took my phone out."

"Ugh! I'm gonna stab you!"

"...That's my phrase!"

Both stared at each other, and both clicked their tongues.

"Let's start again", Enta said as he held Tooi's both hands one more time, then looked him in the eyes. "Kazuki!"

Tooi sighed. He rolled his eyes, and started talking in the most monotone tone.

"Enta? What is it? You need something? You're acting weird. You look so cute. I lov-"

"KAZUKI," Enta called in a reproving tone, squeezing his hands, and Tooi stopped. "I have something to tell you, so, please, listen intently!"

"I'm all ears."

"I... I really like you!"

Even though it wasn't the real Kazuki, saying those things while looking into his eyes was a bit too much. Enta turned his flushed face away, now looking at his own feet, but didn't let go of the hands, wanting to make sure he was still there, still listening to him.

"I know it must look sudden but... I like you since we first met. You changed my life, you know? You saved me. I was so lonely until you got here. I kept thinking I would die alone, and hoping I would die soon, and then you gave me so many reasons to want to stay alive. But even if you didn't save me... you're still the best person I've ever known." Flashbacks went on his mind. How Kazuki helped their classmates with homework during lunch, how he would help their teammates get in the infirmary when they scrapped their knees. How he went to the playground with Haruka. How he checked on Enta when he missed school. Kazuki never complained about other people's needs, he never refused help if there was no reason to. It filled him with admiration. He started tearing up.

"You're the prettiest, the funniest, the most caring... and the way you protect me and how I feel when we play together- I want to do the same for you! I want to make sure you're happy! I want to give you even more reasons to want to stay alive!" He had his eyes closed now, and his hands let go of the other's to hold tightly to his arms. He was almost yelling, as if he wanted to make sure those feeling weren't a secret anymore. He was sick and tired of secrets.

"You make me feel things I never felt before! And I really want to keep feeling them! I... I love you!"

Enta's heart was pounding and the cold sweat drops running against his heated skin gave him little shocks. Then warm fingers reached his face. They pulled his chin up, and he opened his eyes.

It wasn't Kazuki. It was still Tooi.

He had his eyes widened, and his mouth a little agape, and a weird flush to his cheeks. His lips trembled before he talked.

"...Enta..." he took his hand away, and shifted his eyes to the side. He moved his fringe with his own hand, as if to hide more of his face. "...Me.. me too."

Enta felt a shriver. He didn't blush, but just because he was already all red.

"Tooi..."

Nothing but their breaths and the river to their side could be heard. The hand holding meant they were very close now. Just a step away from a kiss. A gulf of wind hit the place, with such strength it seemed to be trying to push them together. Tooi looked at Enta again. He didn't walk away.. so he moved his back away from the wall. He inclined slighty towards his friend. Both of them glaring at each other. He swallowed dry, and he was glad he took his sweet time, because just then Enta started laughing.

"Wow. You make a great Kazuki, Tooi! You never told me you are an actor!" he laughed some more, and let go of his arms. "I hope he reacts like that."

Tooi froze for a second, then nodded his head and leaned against the wall again.

"You really helped me. I guess I can do it for real now."

"Good.."

"I will... I will look for him. Wish me luck, okay?"

Tooi crossed his arms.

"Sure. Good luck."

The smile Enta gave him in response was just the prettiest. Then he went to the stairs, and soon disappeared in the street, leaving Tooi alone.

The wind that seemed to encourage him earlier felt mocking, now. He slid his back against the wall until he was sitting down.

Maybe Enta and Kazuki deserved each other. They were both very stupid.
