Chapter Text

“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” Jimin said pulling on the overly fluffy santa hat to accompany the christmas tree sweater than Jin had thrown at him earlier. Jimin looking like Christmas had thrown up on him and it was barely december.

“You agreed to it,” Jin sang and handed Jimin the basket full of candy canes and the notes that would accompany them.

“I was sick, Jin,” Jimin complained pulling out a tissue from his pant’s pocket. For the past week, Jimin was unwell with a head cold and could hardly think let alone do something as basic as breathe through his nose. Jin had graciously visited him a few times and brought him food. But on one of the visits, Jin had asked Jimin to help the Student Life Committee with one of their events. And Jimin couldn’t really say no as he was spooning in the soothing warm soup that Jin had made him. “As a med student, you should know to not take advantage of the ill,” Jimin chided.

“I wasn’t taking advantage of the ill,” Jin gasped. “I was taking advantage of a dear good friend, who happened to be ill,”

“Jin,”

“JIMIN PLEASE!” Jin said literally falling into Jimin’s lap. “The girl who was supposed to do it met her mate and wanted to spend some time with him. He isn’t even from korea and he has to go back to Japan at the end of the year,”

“Jin,” Jimin said already caught up in the story.

“Her alpha is so sweet,” Jin said throwing his hand over his brow dramatically. “He came with her to ask because she was nervous about letting down the Student Life committee. How could I say no to love Jimin?”

Jimin sighed.

“Come on Jimin,” Jin plea-ed. “You’re the second cutest omega in this university and the absolute cutest unmated one. Everyone will love love love you giving them cute candy canes,”

“Fine,” Jimin said fixing the pompom on the santa hat and wisping his hair to the side. “What do I need to do?”

“It’s so easy!” Jin said clapping his hands together happily. “All you have to do it give the candy cane to the appointed person and read the charming note from their gifter. And we include a picture of the person AND their rough schedule AND the phone number of the gifter,”

“So I have to run around campus and find people to give them a candy cane?” Jimin sighed. “Couldn’t you have made them come here?”

“That’s not romantic,” Jin handed the basket over to Jimin.

“But it’s pragmatic,” Jimin shuffled through the candy canes to try and organize how he would be handing them out. At the top of the pile he saw a familiar name and decided to go there first.
“You never know Jimin,” Jin added. “You might even sniff out your mate,”

“I wish,” Jimin said with a soft laugh. Most people his age had found their mates already. Their destined person who had a special smell. Jin had been lucky enough to meet his soulmate in highschool and Hoseok had been even luckier and had met his when Hoseok was a kid. Leaving Jimin to be the single one out.

But he was used to it and today (and for the next couple of days), Jimin had a job to do. After a short walk across campus, Jimin was finally in the library where he knew the first recipient would be. Walking through the tall isles, Jimin finally found him. “Hey Namjoon,” Jimin said opening up the candy cane message.

“Hey Jimin,” Namjoon said putting his book on the counter. “You’re the one Jin forced to do this?”

“Yup,” Jimin scanned the message first and smiled. “You may have broken every single one of my dishes, but you have never broken my heart, Lots of love Jinnie” Jimin read clearly. Jimin handed a blushing red Namjoon the candy cane and note. This might be a fun job, Jimin thought as he picked up the next candy cane.

3 hours later, Jimin didn’t have the same sentiment. Jimin’s voice was hoarse from saying the very similar messages over and over again and Jimin’s already plugged nose was overwhelmed with the scent of peppermint. It was perfectly awful. Thankfully, he only had one more person on the list. Min Yoongi. The slip was missing the photo but the directions were exact enough that Jimin didn’t think it would be a problem. The name sounded familiar to Jimin but he couldn’t put his finger on it. Hopefully when he saw this Min Yoongi, Jimin would recognize him.

Jimin followed the directions on the note that stated that Yoongi was in the Music Production building. And according to the note, he went to Production Room 339. Jimin had only been in this building a handful of times, but the rules had been drilled into him. He looked up to ensure that the “ON AIR” sign was off before knocking on the door softly. But there was no response. Jimin knocked a bit louder. He was about to knock even louder when he heard a loud thump and stomping before the door opened.

“Taehyung I swear to god if this is about-”

“Hello, Are you Min Yoongi,” Jimin said looking down at the note and hadn’t spared a glance at the man at the door.

“Uh yeah,” Yoongi said the door half closed and still shielding half his body. “What is it?”

“I want you. Ever since I saw you. All I wanted was to inhale your intoxicating scent. Please let me be yours.” Jimin said finally looking up to a stunned looking Yoongi. “Have we meet?” Jimin said feeling something flutter in his stomach when his met eyes with Yoongi.

“Last week. Tuesday. Hoseok invited me over for a music production project. You came out to grab tea.” Yoongi said in surprising detail. “... or something,”

“Wow! You have a great memory!” Jimin said in awe.

“Yeah… so the stuff you said before-”

Oh right,” Jimin said handing Yoongi the candy cane with the note on it. “This is from your secret santa!” Jimin tried to push down the butterflies by reminding himself that Yoongi probably had a mate already if he was getting messages like that.

“So not you?” Yoongi smirked but there was a bitter tone in his voice.

Jimin laughed, ‘No sorry. I’m just the messenger,” Jimin said with a shy wave and still trying to smother the ache in his chest and the bubbling in his stomach.
