Bio
I used to have a nice, formal statement about disagreeing with J.K.Rowling's views, but now (I've found out) she's moved into proper bullying of individuals/funding AGAINST minorities at risk, I decided I needed to make a new statement.
Fact 1) Harry Potter canon has done marvellous things for a generation or more.
Fact 2) I do not want to imply support of Rowling in any way.
Fact 3) I have boycotted things that support Rowling's wealth and power (financial income from her movies, buying Wizarding World items, and so on; social media presence; validity as a spokesperson etc) because I think that's the only way for me to affect her.
Which leads me to my new statement:
I truly believe that if all the reasonable, rational people who originally loved the Harry Potter canon abandon the fandom, then we'll be giving her bullying views more power. Harry Potter belongs to the fandom now, and we're bigger than she is.
The *fandom* is accepting, supportive, understanding, willing to change and learn, and stands up to abuse. Please support members of the rainbow community, transgender individuals especially, and if you don't know how to support trans rights and trans safety in your everyday life, please donate to a charity near you.
The author is dead; long live the fandom.
