Summary
TFA/G1 et al fusion. Generally AU after 'Fistful of Energon'/late season two.
After Prowl goes missing -spirited away into Decepticon space- a past starts to emerge. One that has been long forgotten and buried, holding secrets from not only the Great Wars, but from an Age when the Rule of Four was in its twilight hours.
It's a past that has far-reaching, possibly deadly, consequences, the least of all being a missing Ninja taken by a lone bounty hunter.
Everyone has a tale to tell in the tapestry of fate. It's not pretty, it's not nice, yet maybe there's a happy ending somewhere in all of this... Maybe.

Meta/headcanon around those continuities (fanon or canon) where Cybertron's population is divided into military and civilian codelines and what that means - for general culture, the factions in the war, etc.
(First chapter deals with thoughts about the fact that the factions are mostly split between military and civilian and what that might mean for them in how they deal with the stresses of war, using weapons, and similar things. They're taken from a couple different posts made at different times, so some of the sections will sound kind of similar with different phrasing or in-depth thought. Some minimal edits to make things flow a little better as a single post here.)

You're trading stories about your misspent youths (you're the one providing most of the 'misspent' part of that), and he's telling you about this time when he was in a cramped little hideaway on stakeout and because they didn't have enough room, his partner's foot totally got jammed right into his interface array, and he couldn’t make a sound because there were people outside and his partner—
That’s when you have to interrupt him to ask what an interface array is.
