Kaeya's week had been full of work. That, Diluc could tell. Entering the tavern with a target in sight every single day, opening the door with that fake smile of his already plastered on, smiling and being loud and overly friendly as if the hoarders had granted him a wish with their presence and not an annoyance or a threat like any sane person would see them as.
And judging by the way Kaeya sweetened them up, laughed and talked, he would've believed the acting too, if he hadn't known him for most of his life, that is.

Summary
A glass is set down, clinking mutedly on the table cloth and, gingerly, another is picked up. Diluc gives it the same treatment as the one from before, as the ones from the past hour; drying methodically and slowly, aiming for perfection. Little can he actually see through the fog behind his eyes though, but the glass is set down spotless all the same.
His mind flows away, following the golden glimmer on the rim of the glass, through the ashen cloth in his hand and the constant motion of his arms.

He didn't have a problem with his name, he was quite accustomed to it. It was one of the last few remnants of his past that he still carried with him to this day.
More than once it turned out to be more useful than a sword and a threat; when Dvalin attacked Mondstadt and the abyss order sneaked its way into the walls while the others were defending the exterior, the single mention of his name had them cooperating with information, as if he were one of them.

Summary
Diluc never got jealous of Kaeya for being everyone’s favourite, because he was Diluc’s favourite too.
His favourite person to play games with (despite them being pretty even when it came to winning), his favourite person to go on adventures with (for he never snitched to the adults when he went somewhere he wasn’t supposed to), and his favourite person to talk to (because Kaeya was really, really clever and always found a solution for everything).
Sometimes though, he got the feeling Kaeya behaved exceptionally well on purpose, just to be liked, and he didn’t know how to feel about that. He didn’t mind his little brother being the favourite just for who he was as a person, but if he was putting on a show, that changed things.
And put on a show he certainly did, because who in their right mind possibly liked steamed vegetables more than meat at dinner?
(Adults didn’t count.)

So the bird had a bit of an attitude problem.
As expected, he was too prideful to simply let a human touch him, let alone pick him up. Getting him inside had been an hour-long task, involving chasing the animal around with a blanket and cooing at him in an attempt to earn his trust. Now that they were finally inside however, the little guy was prancing around as if he owned the place.
He hadn’t allowed Kaeya to take a look at the ring around his leg even after getting treats, nipping at his fingers any time he tried, but he also didn’t seem to be particularly upset about being here.
‘You remind me of someone, you know?’ Kaeya sighed as he observed the bird walking around. ‘Someone equally stubborn, and unwilling to accept help. Ah, you even share the tendency to lash out at people who care about you.’
The bird looked up at him almost as if somehow understanding the words, tilting his head and blinking curiously, which made Kaeya grin in amusement.
‘Let’s call you Noctua for now.’
