Summary
There’s something wrong with Will.
It started three weeks ago, almost four. Will had woken from some sort of nightmare and, instead of seeking comfort in Mike the way he usually would, he’d rolled out a sleeping bag from the closet and chosen to sleep on the floor.
No one believes Mike, except for Joyce. But even she doesn’t understand the full extent to which something is wrong with Will.
Mike understands, though. Mike has been paying attention.

Summary
Will knows he should talk about it.
He knows it’s not quite fair to everyone else. To just… shove it all down, so deep and compressed that it becomes hard and solid and flammable under the right conditions. But… well, what the hell is he supposed to do? Is he supposed to just… explain what happened?
Will isn’t even sure what happened. If it was…
...well.
(After a history of sexual assault, Vecna starts to use this against Will by tormenting him in his dreams. Will, even more traumatized, frightened, and jumpy, struggles to rest or breathe - until one night, Mike reveals that he hasn't been asleep during Will's nightmares and hugs him.)

Summary
"Tell me a secret?"
Mike asks, like he's come to do every day, late at night, when the darkness can swallow the guilt and the regret rushing out of their hearts, when their sides press together, the floor long forgotten, ever since the first Will, please, come up here.
Will is a terrible person.
I'm in love with you. I'm having visions. I'm in love with you. I'm not really having nightmares, Vecna is tempting me with a version of you that loves me back. I'm in love with you.
"I think my death is the easiest solution to everything. The Upside Down will die with me."
Will can hear Mike swallow next to him.
"Will, I would let the world burn down to ashes if it meant keeping you in it."
or
They're back in Hawkins, everything is the way it's always been, except - yeah, it's still the middle of an apocalypse, Will is having nosebleeds and Mike would sacrifice the world for his best friend but is still losing him.

Summary
Mike Wheeler has always been bad at communicating. He never says the right thing, and when it matters most, he can't say a word about how he really feels. Not to El. Not to Will. Not to anyone.
Now, it's too late. Grief and regret take over Mike's life, and he is haunted by what he should have said to the two people he loves more than anything else. The words that stayed trapped inside him when he had the chance to say them nag at him as he navigates the complicated intersection between his grief for El and his confusion over Will.
Mike Wheeler is trapped in a pit of self-loathing and pain, and Will Byers might be the only one who can help dig him out of it.
Or: I've been feeling really sad about what grief and internalized homophobia did to Mike Wheeler in between the final battle and the epilogue. Here's a little angsty headcanon of the inner workings of his brain during parts of the finale and that 18 month timeskip. Starts with a sort of fix-it that shows Will's coming out and El's death from Mike's POV.

Summary
Suddenly, Mike is twelve, teetering on the edge of the quarry. Maybe tomorrow the paramedics will pull him from the same exact place they found Will's body. It’s a comforting thought, morbidly enough. To die for his friends. To be with Will again.
or: Mike Wheeler has no good, horrible, very bad evening.
