He pricked the crease of her elbow with a needle, threading an IV into the vein and pushing saline into her. The beep of the heart monitor varied wildly. One second racing towards 200 before suddenly plummeting to 30. This happened over, and over, her face completely still and serene. her temperature was rising steadily, already at 41.6°. He went cold as it hit 42° just a minute or two later and the awful, horrible realization of what was happening hit him like a bullet.
Rose was burning alive from the inside out.
Or
Rose is sick and the Doctor doesn't know if she'll get better this time.

The Doctor came waltzing back from 18th-century France, acting like nothing had happened, like he hadn't snogged a French Courtesan then bragged about it while his companions were strapped to a table by murderous repair droids. He had abandoned Rose, the TARDIS, and Mickey on an unknown ship in the 51st century, without a word or hint of a plan to come back.
When he does come back, having lost Reneitte, he expects Rose to be happily waiting for him, eager to keep traveling. But, she isn't. Instead, she requests to be taken home.
Rose won't accept being abandoned and leaves the TARDIS, determined to get over the Doctor and make something of herself. -

After witnessing the aftermath of traveling with the Doctor at Deffry Vale High School and being abandoned on a killer spaceship for a French courtesan, Rose realizes that she has two options: spend the rest of her life in love with someone who won’t let himself love her back, pretending it doesn’t bother her, or build a life of her own without him.
