Tim was fading away.
Not on purpose, it just started happening about a month ago after his parents left for one of their work trips again. Nothing had been out of the ordinary in Tim's mind but after few days of Jack and Janet leaving, Tim had walked to the kitchen for breakfast, and the nanny that was looking after him had screamed and dropped her cup of tea to the ground.
It was like the nanny had seen a ghost. It was only when Tim had looked into a mirror he realized that she actually had.

Summary
Timothy’s body was nothing but a byproduct of violence and death. The pit healed his wounds but left scars that burned worse. He was ugly, he knew, but it hardly bothered him. Ugly things were real and permanent. They marred the world, left their mark wherever they went. It was not his ugliness that unnerved him. It was his simplistic mind that he was ashamed of.
His body was broken but his mind was carved empty. He’d been brilliant once, he was sure. Sometimes Ra’s told him stories of his past intelligence, of the times when he called him Detective. Timothy listened to those stories with childish envy, unable to comprehend how the person Ra’s spoke of with such pride had been him.
Sometimes, he thought the Bat might love him. Then he would remember that he wasn't the one he looked at with such soft eyes and he'd think of the Tim that the Bat wanted with such visceral hatred that he scared himself.

Timothy forgets. Ra's lies. His family is there for him, come hell or high water.

Summary
Dick feels the stirrings of hope in his chest as he finally places the familiarity. Hesitantly, he holds out a hand and slowly says, “Tim…?”
That little face breaks out into a smile, revealing a gap between his front teeth, providing more proof to the insane theory in his head. The child says nothing as they crawl out of the bundle of clothes, and Dick quickly grabs Tim (right?) before he can put his hands on the dirty ground.
“Tim,” he whispers, daring to believe.

Summary
Less than twenty-four hours and half of the family already knows. They didn’t even let him know that they had planned to tell Alfred. Big Tim knew that this would happen and yet the second he was shown a gentle touch he rolled over like a pathetic dog. Eager to please no matter how many times you step on its tail.
Everything seems to sharpen, like a camera lens focusing. The problem is, he can believe how quickly he succumbed to all of the attention. His parents knew that this would happen. Give him a taste of his headspace and he turns into an all-consuming beast. Needy for what’s not his to take.
Tim was never meant to be a Little.

Summary
Tim goes to his special bathroom and finds that Bruce has set up the cameras in his play corner. Two of them, on tripods—a Leica SL3 and a Nikon Z9. Both of them used to be Tim’s, each a birthday and a Christmas gift from Bruce, but Tim doesn’t need them anymore, so Bruce gets good use out of them. He’s glad they aren’t wasting away in the attic or the dump like the rest of his old stuff probably is.
Bruce prefers that Tim use the bathroom for this kind of thing for easier clean up. It gets messy sometimes, depending on what Bruce asks for. “Get off as much as you want” can get pretty messy.

Cass grins at him sweetly, fluttering her dark lashes, and Jason rolls his eyes. “Whatever. Anyway, Bruce wants me to tell you need to go out as RR tonight. He’ll brief you later. He’s finally winding it down. RR is retiring soon.” He gestures at Tim. “Maybe now everyone will finally forget about him and we can stop fielding all the bullshit.”
Tim tunes the rest of the conversation out. None of this applies to him; it’s not his business.
He doesn’t miss being Red Robin. This is easier. Simpler, nicer.

“You’ll have to talk when Clark comes,” Bruce tells him.
Tim is startled out of his thoughts, and he looks up in alarm. He hasn’t talked in forever. Not since he completed his training. He’s not sure he knows how anymore. He’s been given a short list of signs to use only when he needs to convey something important, and he’s always allowed to nod or shake his head, but otherwise nothing he might have to say matters. He’s not even allowed to ask for food or water. It used to be allowed, but he abused it too much, so they made it against the rules.

Tim was a ghost in the manor. He didn’t speak, he didn’t do any of his hobbies, he didn’t eat much, he didn’t sleep much. He wandered through the halls, footsteps silent like he had learned to do at a young age. The only evidence that he lived there was the sight of him, and even then, Bruce could go days without finding the boy awake, only ever catching up to his endless walk when he stopped to sleep.
Or: Tim just lost his dad and isn't sure how he's meant to act. Bruce has to be patient.

That was how Tim awoke.
Over the past week, weather begun frosting over in New York. It welcomed malevolent rain that congealed on the streets, and the ominous rumbling of thunder. This should have undoubtedly alarmed the undercover man; however, he bounded on with his days, blissfully oblivious. Now, as orange rays of sunlight illuminate his apartment at dawn, Tim was forced to belatedly confront his mistake.
He should’ve realised that the wailing rainstorm from the night before was a premonition for when he awoke with no feeling in his throat.
OR
Tim’s old scar from his fight with Jason flares up in the cold weather and leaves him mute for the day. He is still undercover as Neal Caffrey so, of course, everything spirals out of control from there.

Tim came home two weeks ago.
It wasn’t really a home he knew, but Bruce, being Bruce, had insisted on him recovering in the manor.
This had all apparently been decided somewhere between Tim dying three times and him miraculously waking up, alive, and with his brain functions fully intact. He moved into the manor as soon as the discharge papers were signed and filed away,
And with that, his brand new life began, one of being ceaselessly doted on by Alfred, Dick, and Bruce like some kind of sad, paraplegic puppy.
Or, Tim is released from the hospital and must now recover, both physically and mentally, after being attacked by the Red Hood. As one can imagine, it's a process™, and the Batfam are just trying their best to be supportive.
