Felicia Paniagua and Lagle Ehasalu could not be more different, aside from the fact that they're both pilots and warrant officers for their respective Air Forces (United States and Soviet, respectively) in the Cold War. Felicia is confident, outgoing, boisterous; Lagle is quiet, shy, and cautious. They're both chosen for a space flight to "foster goodwill", only learning that they're part of a "Lottery" for aliens too late.
Now the size of very young toddlers with a lot of the same needs as very young toddlers, both of them are selected by the same couple. Soon enough, they realize that they aren't the only humans being abducted by these aliens and "modified" to a horrifying degree. Worried that they might be modified, they must try to find a way off the alien world and back to theirs...before the aliens decide their fates for them.
