Alec enters the loft stealthily, wanting to surprise Magnus. Since officially becoming boyfriends he has free access to the loft, Magnus’s wards letting him in without needing a key. He finds him lying on the couch, book in one hand, cocktail in the other. He looks so relaxed and utterly gorgeous. It makes Alec’s heart beat faster with how much he loves him.
He pads softly in socked feet to the couch, leaning over and kissing him upside down. Magnus startles briefly but then kisses him back with a gentleness that makes Alec’s toes curl.

Alec nods, closing his eyes briefly before looking directly into Magnus’s. “Were you watching me sleep?” he asks, and Magnus can’t quite read his expression. He feels his stomach clench. Is this it? Is this the limit? Is this where he becomes too much? For all the positive thoughts that Magnus just had, this one thing turns him like the flip of a coin. He pulls back slightly, but Alec notices. Alec always notices.

“Of course I am,” Alec said with a humorless laugh, like it was obvious. He tugged his jacket closed and started down the steps, turning back once he reached the sidewalk to say, “Call me if you get arrested.”
Despite being a bystander to Magnus' tumultuous relationship history and hookups for the past few years, and the heartbreak he had suffered because of it, Alec was still going to bake an apple pie for him. Because that's what you do when you're hopelessly in love with your best friend: you bake desserts that you loathe just to see him smile, even if he'll never know what they truly stand for.
