Summary
David Wymack tries not to put too much thought into it, especially considering the words that come out of the merman’s mouth afterwards, but he can’t help but to notice it’s the first time ever that Neil initiates touching him. Not entirely, Neil’s sharp clawed hands grab and pierce the end of Wymack’s shirt instead of making contact with skin, but it’s close enough to touch for someone like Neil. It’s still more than anyone ever thought they’d get.
The aquarium’s most famous exhibit has gone through a lot of change in the past few months. Wymack would not say whatever was wrong with the kid was solved or fixed by any means, but he looked better. Wore his skin and scales as what they were instead of a too large and heavy coat, his shoulders a little lighter, his skin a little darker, blue eyes ever bluer. Wymack knows there’s something wrong before Neil can even start to tell him.
Neil’s words are whispered, partially drowned things meant to be lost among shipwrecks and whale falls. Here, with only Wymack and him and the whirring grinding pumping of many many filtration systems, the words find themselves carefully given instead to Wymack.
“I’m going into heat.”

Summary
The merman's hands are bound in thick ropes, even from this distance he can see that the powerful, glimmering tail is tightly constricted in a space too small and cruel for something so unearthly, his muscular torso that is peppered with shimmering scales and tail are bound in barbed wires, making the deities every movement and breath push barbs deeper into his skin, threatening to peel of scales, it’s a stark contrast to the freedom of the sea he belongs to, and it’s an admonition of the cruelties of humans, no other species could be so inhuman to cause this damage.
TLTR: The foxes are pirates who meet Neil the merman and have some adventures together while facing their common enemy

Summary
Nathan and Mary were both dead, the latter at the claws of the former. Neil had killed his father himself with tooth and claw and every bit of violence he inherited from his father. Now, he's alone.
Months later, he is still alone. He swam until he couldn't anymore. He found an abandoned shelter, far closer to the reef-dwelling merpeople than he would have ever dared when his parents were alive. It shouldn't surprise anyone that a certain blonde merman found him interesting enough to talk to.

"Ow, what the fuck,” Kevin spits. Andrew slowly unwraps his arm from around Neil’s waist and Kevin takes it as a threat, scrambling backwards, his tail flicking sand everywhere. “Neil, call off your mate!”
Oh. Andrew blinks. This is the first time anyone has called him that.
Mate.
Neil’s mate.
The words slipped so easily off Kevin’s tongue that it stuns Andrew. It sounds correct, like an inherent truth. Andrew decides he likes the sound of it, and he has no idea what to do with that information.

Andrew eyes the trail of crimson. “You’re still bleeding.”
“I’m not staying here,” the merman snarls, giving Andrew a glare that would kill lesser, unaccustomed men. Andrew ignores it because he gets that look all the time.
But it gives Andrew a glimpse of just how blue the merman’s eyes are—a color so deep and alluring, he has to rack his brain to remember if merfolk’s eyes having hypnotizing qualities.

When Neil pulls away, there’s a pea-sized pearl in Andrew’s palm.
“Do you like it?” Neil asks. His eyes are fixed on the sand where he’s drawing little swirls with a finger, a nervous tick Andrew has noticed. “I wrestled it out of a clam.”
The thought of Neil stubbornly prying a shell open with his nose scrunched in concentration causes Andrew’s mouth to twitch upwards. “I suppose it’s alright,” Andrew says and he receives a dramatic eye roll in return for his blatant lie. “Yes, I like it. Thank you, Neil.”

The water splashed.
Andrew held his breath.
Then; something surfaced.
Auburn red hair was the first thing Andrew saw, in loose waves that managed to curl as if they were dry. The hair curled around ‘ears’ with odd webbing. A sharp jaw gave way to a slim neck with unusual slits and shoulders that had peppered scales climbing up over their smooth and muscled shape. There was a face, a human face with red lips. It had icy eyes textured in every most ethereal shade of arctic and ocean blue, with flecks that appeared violently magenta, and rainbow patterns reflecting off it’s irises.
It was impossibly beautiful.
“Mother of God,” Wymack whispered.
