There was a boy,
A very strange, enchanted boy.
They say he wandered very far
Very far, over land and sea.
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he.And then one day,
One magic day he passed my way.
While we spoke of many things,
Fools and Kings,
This he said to me:“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return.”

I. The Boy Who Lived
A.
(The Prologue: A Fairy Tale)
Beginning (CSS: drop cap first letter, bold first line, margin image)
In past times there were a duke and a duchess, who said every day, “Oh, if only we had a child!” but they never received one. Then it happened one day while the duchess was sitting in her bath, that a frog crept out of the water onto the ground and said to her, “Thy wish shall be fulfilled, and before a year passeth thou wilt bring a son into the world.”
What the frog said did happen, and the duchess gave birth to a son. The infant boy immediately displayed immense magic. The duke could not contain himself for joy, and he ordered a great celebration. He invited not only his relatives, friends, and acquaintances, but also the wisest mages in the duchy and the entire kingdom so that they would be kindly disposed toward the child.

O Fortuna
velut luna
statu variabilis,
semper crescis
aut decrescis;
vita detestabilis
nunc obdurat
et tunc curat
ludo mentis aciem,
egestatem,
potestatem
dissolvit ut glaciem.
....
O Fortune,
like the moon
you are changeable,
ever waxing
ever waning;
hateful life
first oppresses
and then soothes
playing with mental clarity;
poverty
and power
it melts them like ice.
....

Letter (CSS: cursive font and signature in fantasy font)
Mr. Potter,
First, my congratulations on the dismissal of the charges against you last week. I am happy you will be able to continue at Hogwarts. However, there is a slight records issue that will need to be resolved. The expulsion automatically instigated by the Ministry’s initial letter on August 2nd caused a slight malfunction in the Hogwarts Rolls of Admitted Students.
When the Ministry sent its letter, you became ineligible to attend Hogwarts, and your name was stricken from the Rolls. As an anti-tampering measure, marks cannot be removed from the Rolls or added manually. Your name can be added to a new row, but it would not include information about the years you have completed, which can only be entered at the end of a school year, nor will it include your House, which can only be added to the Rolls by the Sorting Hat.
However, both of these issues can be fixed. First, I have added you to the Transfer Students Rolls, which allows me to list you as starting this year as a fifth-year student. Second, the Sorting Hat will be able to again add you to Gryffindor House, which will be registered in the Rolls. At that point, there will be no changes remaining from the expulsion.
Please come to the Start-of-Term Feast as you normally would. As usual, you may sit at the Gryffindor table. After the first-year students have been Sorted, I will announce that a student is to be sorted again due to a clerical error, and I will ask you to be come to the front.
Our apologies for the inconvenience. The Rolls of Admitted Students were created before the Ministry, so this eventuality was not fully considered.
Professor McGonagall

☞ FUDGE WITHDRAWS CRIME MEASURE
Chief Whip Edgar Farnes informed the Wizengamot yesterday afternoon that the Ministry of Magic would withdraw a proposed statutory instrument regarding lengthened sentences for disorderly conduct, the Criminal Penalties Reform Commission Act (Amendment) (No. 3) (Public Order Offenses) Regulations 1995, after the Wizengamot voted down Farnes’ motion to set out the Wizengamot’s weekly agenda by a vote of 59 to 51. Only 18 members were absent for the rare recorded vote on a procedural matter. The Farnes motion was rejected by an unusual factional alignment, with members generally aligned with Albus Dumbledore on the one hand and Lucius Malfoy on the other respectively each voting against the motion. In the past, Malfoy had been an ally of Minister Fudge. Dumbledore presided over the proceeding in his role as Chief Warlock, having taken a sabbatical leave of absence from Hogwarts.
Sirius Black, recently released from Azkaban at the order of Fudge, called on the Minister to resign during debate on the Ministry motion. The speech was Black’s first time participating in Wizengamot debate after taking his seat last week. Black accused Fudge of “prioritiz[ing] public perception at the expense of good government,” drawing particular attention to Fudge’s involvement in Black’s own imprisonment without trial. Fudge responded furiously, calling Black a “smarmy ingrate,” before the Minister was temporarily ejected from the chamber after Augusta Longbottom objected that he had violated the standing order against insulting a fellow member.
