Chapter Text
“Okay, so,” Hana began, pulling her two companions into a huddle. “Here's the plan, I get myself a mask like in those old Payday games from, like, forever ago. I go into the shop and start making a scene, Orisa swoops in, arrests the ‘criminal’ and boom! You're their hero!”
“ No Hana,” Lúcio said sternly. “You're a police officer, and you're not getting arrested again for a matchmaking scheme.” The young woman gasps, dramatically clutching her heart. It doesn't take long for the two to dissolve into lighthearted squabbling that Orisa can't quite keep up with. Something about Vishkar, a sound system and a revolution.
She looks back at the small, out of place brick building and wonders what Bastion is doing right now.
“She likes you, Bas-Chan!”
‘Stop it she does not!’ Their face is bright red with embarrassment and their hands fly through the signs with agitation. Genji, the asshole, just laughs.
Ganymede chirps impatiently in her cage, waiting for her human to hurry up with the birdseed already. Bastion mimics the sound, turning their back to Genji as they filled up the dish. They try quite hard not to let their thoughts stray to Orisa, or her laugh, her kind smile and beautiful eyes- Ganymede's annoyed squawk jolts them out of their thoughts and they realize they've filled the dish up too much, seed flowing over the sides.
Lúcio is fighting off Hana’s attempts to pull his hair when he turns to Orisa. “Listen Ori,” He says. “You've only ever interacted with them in the shop. You need to meet with them somewhere when they aren't working- OW HANA!!” He turns away, attention once again pulled to his best friend’s antics.
Orisa pulls the two apart by their shirt collars, easily lifting both of them as though they weighed nothing. “We are in public, pretend you like each other.” She scolds them, ignoring the sarcastic “yes mom” from Hana.
“If you keep this up I’ll take away your Xbox Hana.” Orisa jokes, though she sounds quite stern. She tunes out her coworker’s squawks of protest with practiced ease.
She says goodbye to the two at her doorstep and absentmindedly goes through her nightly routine, mind on Lucio's advice. Had she been misreading their interactions? Mistaking professional politeness for friendship? She really hoped that wasn’t the case. She’d never met anyone like Bastion. They had a smile that made her heart stutter, and the way they laughed made her face heat up. Just thinking about them made something giddy bubble up in her chest and she covered her face with her hands, fighting the urge to dissolve into giggles.
She needed to plan. With that thought in mind she moves from her bed to her desk and opens up her laptop. She starts a new document and tries to think of a title. All her other files had appropriate names so she could keep them organized, but this one was a bit of a special case. Where would she even put it? In her ‘Personal’ folder, where she kept shopping lists and gift ideas? In her ‘Schedule’ folder? She debates for several minutes before she creates a new folder, one simply titled ‘Bastion’. At the moment it holds a single document titled ‘Acquiring their Phone Number’
Orisa groaned, head in her hands. 30 minutes later and she only had the title. How did one even begin something like this? She’d asked people for their phone numbers before, she had Hana’s for example, why was it so difficult this time?
Movies and TV shows had always built up asking for someone’s phone number as a big gesture and she was afraid to screw it up. Everything suddenly seemed so complicated now that attraction was involved. Orisa normally wasn’t one to let frustration get the better of her but she truly felt like screaming.
With no better option she opens her web browser, hoping that someone somewhere had had a similar problem and found a solution.
: How to ask for someone’s phone number?
