Chapter Text
Character Reference: Shen Qingqiu & Luo Binghe
In this part, I’m covering how the main couple (Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe) address themselves, each other, and how others address them. For the sake of simplicity, I’ll only be covering Luo Binghe in SV verse and Shen Yuan!Shen Qingqiu, not Shen Jiu and Luo Bingge.
As mentioned previously, your relationship with who you’re speaking to changes how you address yourself. You’ve probably noticed, either from Scum Villain or any other xianxia/wuxia novel, that characters occasionally refer to themselves by their titles/their relationship to whoever they’re speaking to. For example, Shen Qingqiu refers to himself quite often as “this master” when speaking to his students or “shixiong” when talking with other peak lords.
Beware of minor spoilers for the extras/latter half of the novel.
Shen Qingqiu (prev. Shen Jiu/Shen Yuan)
Our POV character and the Qing Jing Peak Lord. A transmigrator from modern day era, he died and took over the body of the actual Shen Qingqiu. His name prior to transmigrating is Shen Yuan.
Like all peak lords, Shen Qingqiu was the name given to him after his promotion. The body/ “original good’s” name was initially Shen Jiu.
In terms of hierarchy in Cang Qiong Sect, he is #2- He’s senior to everyone except for Yue QingYuan, the sect leader.
What he calls himself: A note-Shen Qingqiu rarely refers to himself in third person when he’s talking to other people
This teacher/this master: to his students
Qingqiu: to Yue Qingyuan
Shixiong : to his other peak lords
Shibo/Shishu: presumably to disciples of other peaks in Cang Qiong Sect - not really certain as he never really addresses himself to other students aside from his own, but that seems to be the xianxia standard
What others call him:
Shizun : his students. The period appropriate, formal way of saying “Shifu” (teacher/master)
Shifu: Ning YingYing called him this once. The less formal way of saying “Shizun”. In early chapters, several of his disciples (not including Luo Binghe) call him this. By the time the tournament rolls around, all his known disciples call him Shizun .
Shixiong /Shen -Shixiong: Technically, all the peak lords aside from Yue Qingyuan should call him this. Amusingly enough, the only one I’ve found who actually calls him this is Mu Qingfang (ch. 33). Both Qi Qingqi and Liu Qingge refer to him as Shen Qingqiu (airplane extras, Ch54)
Shen- Shibo : All of the peak disciples except any from Yue Qingyuan’s peak. It means Elder martial Uncle Shen, he gets called this due to peak lord seniority
Shidi/Qingqiu-shidi/Qingqiu: only Yue Qingyuan.
Elder/Senior Shen: Disciples of another sect (ie Gongyi Xiao)
Immortal Master Shen/Peak Lord Shen : miscellaneous people unaffiliated with Cang Qiong Sect
Xiao-Jiu: Yue Qingyuan's childhood nickname for the original goods, Shen Jiu. Keep in mind that Yue Qingyuan only really calls him this in childhood. As adults, Shen Jiu would become angry if referred to as this (preferring to be referred to as "Shen Qingqiu")- see 79 extras and chapter 79
What he calls others:
Binghe: Usually calls Luo Binghe by his first name. Refers to him as “Luo Binghe” in his head though.
Typically full name for students/disciples like Ning Yingying, Ming Fan, Gongyi Xiao
Shixiong/Zhangmen Shixiong : Yue Qingyuan- Zhangmen Shixiong is a reference to his position as sect head.
Shidi/[Last name]-Shidi: Younger disciple brother/sister ( shimei ). Shen Qingqiu is the 2nd peak lord, so he has seniority over everyone not the sect leader.
Luo Binghe
Our ML. At the start of the series, he is the newest disciple we know of on Qing Jing Peak. Due to his… complicated relationship with Cang Qiong Sect, how he refers to members of the sect varies over the course of the novel. Beware of minor spoilers.
What he calls himself:
“This disciple”: to Shen Qingqiu obviously
What others call him:
Luo BingHe : His elders/peak lords, Shen Qingqiu on occasion, presumably other disciples, most people not affiliated with Cang Qiong Sect
A-Luo : Ning Yingying calls him this nickname, since they’ve been friendly since childhood
Luo-shixiong : Liu MingYan calls him this in the extras. Presumably this is because Luo BingHe’s master (Shen QingQiu) is higher seniority than her master Qi QingQi
My Lord/Lord /Junshang: our poor overworked office lady Sha Hualing and other demons refer to Luo Binghe this way post abyss (Ch55)
What he calls others:
Shixiong/ [last name] -shijie/shixiong: as the newest named disciple of Qing Jing Peak, he calls all the disciples on Qing Jing Peak shijie/shixiong (ie. he calls Ning YingYing Ning-shijie in the extras)
Shishu/ [Last name] -shishu: Peak lords other than Yue Qingyuan. Means (younger) martial uncle. He only refers to them like this while he’s still a disciple on QJ Peak and post ending.
[Last name]- xiansheng : Sir/Mr [last name]. Refers to Mu Qingfang like this during the 5 year mourning phase. This is a reference to how he no longer considers himself a member of Cang Qiong sect.
Liu Qingge: Self explanatory here. Luo BingHe drops the formality post abyss. (Begrudgingly began calling him Shishu again after the Mausoleum)
Yue-Zhangmen: Yue Qingyuan. This is used by Luo Binghe in the original Proud Immortal Demon Way (OG protag). Luo BingHe in SV never addresses Yue QingYuan in the actual novel. Presumably SV-verse Luo BingHe would have addressed him as Zhangmen-Shibo , which is the way all other disciples address him.
Mobei : Since Mobei Jun is his subordinate, Luo Binghe drops the - Jun and just refers to him as Mobei
